Why is this on a thursday? Isn't it usually tuesday and wednesday?

Southampton and Hull played Sunday. Apparently they didn't want a team playing on 1 day rest. So that's why it's Wed/Thur. Had Hull or Southampton played Saturday it would have been Tues/Wed

A dull and straightforward 0-0 for a midweek January night game both teams would genuinely get rid of.

Play half of the regular starters against Hull, and then the other against Wigan. Try to give everyone a bit of game time as well as resting the other.

    ------------------------------------De Gea------------------------------------
    Darmian------------------Smalling--------Blind------------------------Shaw
    ----------------------------Carrick---------Pogba-----------------------------
    Lingard----------------------------Rooney-----------------------------Martial
    ------------------------------------Rashford-----------------------------------

Personally think Jose will go pretty much full strength in this one then rotate vs Wigan where he will play a similar lineup to the Reading game

Would love us to use a classic 4-4-2 counter attack in this game, let's sucker them in and hit them with pace.

    Martial/Rashford/Mkhi +1 would be ideal.

Big game this. We know all about how much momentum a LC win has created for Jose's teams in the past, and whilst it's the bottom most priority in terms of trophies at the start of the season, a cup final at Wembley is still a massive occasion and a chance to get that winning mentality and hunger back into the side.

Need to make sure we do a professional job here and get ourselves into that final.

    That might be difficult?
Yes. It is going to be very difficult but Leicester is a team that we beat twice already this season, once for the community shield and the big win in the league game. I think we are much better as a team now and should be able to take on them fair and square but it can be difficult because of our last 2 games, it can be a psychological downside. We will rise against them. #ggmu

Sorry mate I was being a bit flippant - United won't beat Leicester this weekend because we have Wigan in the cup this weekend :D

Next weekend on the other hand - I hope you're right! They do look awful and without any confidence, so we will be huge favourites.

    haha. You got me.

Snodgrass would be a huge miss for Hull. He's their best player.

Should be a bloodbath. Does Hull even have 11 players anymore?

They sold Livermore to West Brom and have just agreed a fee with Burnley to sell Snodgrass.

Feel a bit sorry for Hull, goes from bad to worse in terms of injuries and now probably their best player leaving. No way I can see them overturning this, but can see us drawing this game. Aim is obviously to just score a goal and then it's over.

Presser has happened and everyone's available bar Bailly (who will be in the mix to play against Wigan). We'll see strong sides in both games, but will likely rest a few players in each as well.

    Hull EFL Cup

    Romero
    Darmian Smalling Jones Shaw
    Herrera Carrick Pogba
    Mkhitaryan Ibrahimovic Rooney

    Wigan FA Cup

    de Gea
    Valencia Bailly Rojo Blind
    Herrera Pogba
    Mata Fellaini Martial
    Rashford

Would like to see a lot of playrs given a chance, so something like this. Substitute appearances for Fosu-Mensah, Lingard etc. Probably won't happen, but I think these would be enough to see us avoid defeat at Hull and beat Wigan.

Depends really if we're playing with our "best XI". However next Wednesday at OT...

Strongly against playing the tiring Herrera both games. Wouldn't start Ibrahimović in any of them, since the Rashford experience went quite well in the Reading game, and he might have space to run at Hull. No way Fellaini features at #10 at home against a Championship team.

I'm sure Mourinho would like to rest Herrera, but this game doesn't seem to fit Fellaini's characteristics, despite its probable physicality. Mourinho also doesn't seem to trust any other midfielder, like Schweinsteiger or Fosu-Mensah, and he might be too cautious to go back to the 4-2-3-1.

I'd think it more likely that he tries to sub off Herrera and Pogba in at least one of the games each, giving Fosu-Mensah and Schweinsteiger a bit of game time.

This game with either of the previous two managers could have meant problems. Less so now. Pls don't play Smalling, though. Seems itching to drop a bollock.

Wouldn't Ibra have to be on the bench just in case we need a goal towards the end or to put some attacking pressure on Hull if it gets to 1 0 and we're not threatening their goal ?

Rest Ibrahimovic and play Rashford up top with Rooney behind. Good chance to get Rojo the red back in defence after a spell out and maybe even Luke Shaw, but wouldn't want to change too much. Just give a couple of the big guns a rest.

We should be bolder and rest more IMO.

    Romero

    Valencia
    Smalling
    Blind
    Shaw

    Mkhitaryan
    Carrick
    TFM
    Lingard

    Martial
    Rashford

    Tuanzebe on the bench

Agreed with those saying rest a couple but not enough to take any rash chances with the outcome.

We're in a comfortable position but anything can happen in a cup tie, especially away from home. We need to be wary of thinking 'it's only Hull' because they're a different side under the new manager, even if not necessarily better.

Just need to put in a professional performance and hopefully we'll win. I'd take anything if it means we get to the final though.

I think Rooney is nailed on to start this one after his goal. Jose gives him a couple of starts in the Cup so he can drop him in the league.

We'll rest a few but these aren't the days where that means playing a bunch of kids, it will be a fairly strong line-up regardless, Jose likes to win things. If we finish the season with the League Cup + Europa that would be fantastic.

I'd personally play 7 or 8 of our best players. Get it done and dusted early.

Typical Mourinho going hard for the league cup as it instills a winning mentality and confidence.

I'd rather we rest everyone against Wigan then in this game.

Do you mean to rest everyone against Wigan because it makes more sense to rest players against Hull since if we win against Wigan we won't have to play the second game against them and the game against Hull we can close out with reserve players.

Can we? We can barely close out games with our First XI at the moment

There is far more on the line in this game then against Wigan. Not only that, but we have another Premier League game in the week, so it makes far more sense to rest players vs. Wigan.

Besides, at home, our reserve chances have a bigger chance against Wigan then they would away at Hull.

It is really hard to predict the line-up for this game. I'm going to go with

    DDG

    Valencia
    Jones
    Rojo
    Darmian

    Carrick
    Herrera

    Mkhi
    Rooney
    Martial

    Zlatan

Its Jose's birthday today so what better gift then to progress to the final.
Give me a boring 0:0, I dont care.

There defence are big but slow, hope we use our pace in Rashford and Martial to stretch the game.

Ibra doesn't need to play this one, think we will need to counter attack well as they will be throwing everybody forward.
