Who should play there? Rashford doesn’t work well on that side. Bruno more needed in the centre. Elanga has two things I am sure ETH likes: he makes those long runs down the channels and he always puts in a shift defensively.

I’m fine with Elanga starting. Antony and Sancho are both not available and while he’s not the best attacking, he is a bit of a workhorse so he can contribute with pressing, defensive duties helping Malacia and getting the ball to our more creative players.

I can see Elanga actually giving Malacia licence to attack down the right, and drop back to defend.

I disagree. What's important is playing your better players in their optimal positions and Bruno alongside with Rashford are some of our better players hence why it was imperative to get them in their favorite positions. Then you go from there.

Easy 11/11. Elanga is a Championship-level player and still manages to be better than the alternatives. At least he runs and presses. Rashford and Bruno there is a crime against humanity. The fact this is the best we can do there however is damning.

Playing Elanga on the right is a no brainer, he will track back and give Malacia a bit of help, he will press and gives us balance. We are not shifting Bruno out there and Rashford can play in his best position off the left to link up with Martial. Garnacho can come on later as an impact sub.

Not a great lineup, but a sensible one given the circumstances. No Sancho and Antony means we have to use our 3rd option on the right - as neither Garnacho, nor Martial/Rashford can play there. Also shifting Bruno out wide turns him into Jesse Lingard. Just happy to see no VdB/Ronaldo and that Bruno plays centrally.

The situation is not ideal, and I see what you are getting at, but playing Elanga sets a poor precedent given his recent showings.

Dont think Elanga is good enough at all but with both Antony and Sancho out and Rashford having a bad 60 minutes on the right (and 30 bad minutes on the left too) last week it isnt too strange to see Elanga start. He can help out the not natural right back a bit too i guess.
