Fenerbahçe Spor Kulübü, also known as Fenerbahçe or just Fener (and nicknamed Sarı Kanaryalar (Yellow Canaries)), is a Turkish professional football club based in Istanbul, playing in the Süper Lig. Fenerbahçe was founded in 1907 in Kadıköy, istanbul, by local men Ziya Songülen, Ayetullah Bey and Necip Okaner. This group of individuals founded the club secretly in order to keep a low profile and not get into any trouble with the strict Ottoman rule, so strict that the Sultan Abdul Hamid II forbade the Turkish youth to set up a club or engage in the game of football played by the English families. Fenerbahçe's activities were kept in secrecy until a legislation reform in 1908, when, under a new law, all football clubs had to register to exist legally. Fenerbahçe joined the Istanbul Football League in 1909, finishing fifth in their first year.

Today, Fenerbahçe is a major multi-sports club and competes in football, baskteball, volleyball, athletics, swimming, sailing, rowing, boxing and table tennis with many major honors won in each. The football side of Fenerbahçe is one of the most successful and best supported teams in Turkey — having never been relegated to lower divisions, winning a record 28 national championship titles and seven Turkish Cups. In international football, the club has won the Balkans Cup, which was the first non-domestic trophy won by a Turkish club.

“The big three” clubs of Istanbul (Beşiktaş, Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe) have a century-long history of rivalry. The Fenerbahçe-Galatasaray rivalry is the primary Istanbul derby and the most important rivalry in Turkish football; matches between the two teams are known as Kıtalar Arası Derbi (“Intercontinental Derby”). The rivalry was started on 23 February 1934, when a friendly game between both clubs turned into a riot, and the match had to be abandoned, and is infamous for the volatile atmosphere on gameday. Fenerbahçe play their home games at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium in Kadıköy, Istanbul.

Need to start picking up some wins to avoid the play offs but can't sniff at a point away in Turkey.

Tough away fixture but chance for a confidence boosting result. Id mix things up a bit, not loads of pace in that Fenerbahce team,

    Onana
    Mazraoui
    De Ligt
    Lindelof
    Dalot

    Ugarte
    Mount*
    Eriksen

    Diallo
    Zirkzee
    Antony

We really should be keeping an eye on west ham away - we desperately need some league momentum and theyre struggling. They wont struggle all season, so its a good time to go to a usually tough away game. Grind out any sort of result here.

    Bruno is not available

Throw in a younster or two in, Collyer perhaps, will be daunting away in Turkey but what a learning experience. Plus we are down to bear bones in midfield now, especially if Casemiro injured(?)

The first thing that comes to mind is that I'd like to see Amad as the number 10.

The second thing that comes to mind is that I expect Amrabat to play like a scourned lover who is out to prove he's better than Ugarte.

The third is that it'll be nice to see Fred.

Away? We were away against Porto. I thought European games always alternated, home-away-home-away etc.
    Fener were also away.

32 teams all facing 8 random opponents. The only way it could have alternated perfectly is if a set of 16 teams only faced opponents from the other set of 16 and vice versa. Probably bigger chance of winning the lottery twice than that happening.

I’d like to see Zirkzee play in Bruno’s role. I think he’s more there than a forward. Oddly, given the way Jose sets up, I can see Antony playing on the RW. We need a win in Europe soon otherwise we won’t make the next stage and that would be a disaster.

    Ya that’s not happening

That sounds like a bad idea

I'd have the same team as the one against Brentford, except for Ugarte in for Bruno. Ugarte and Casemiro in the double pivot and Eriksen in the 10 role.

Maybe Lindelof in for Evans if the coaching/medical staff don't think Evans can start midweek AND against West Ham on Sunday. Not sure whether Mazraoui is ready to start yet, so I'll keep Martinez in at LB.

I’d keep the same back 4.

Would be tempted to stick Zirkzee next to Hojlund to see how they do, but also not against Eriksen moving to 10 and Ugarte playing next to Casemiro.

No chance Evans is capable of 2 games in 3 days. He's not really capable of 2 games in 7 days.

    After this our fixtures are

    Paok (h)
    Glimt (h)
    Plzen (a)
    Rangers (h)
    Steaua (a)

Even if we lose to Fener, it would be a disgrace to but win all of those games. So as tempting as it is to paint the jose reunion as a big tie, i couldn't care less if we play the reserves

It is a big game, but not because of reunion with Jose, Amrabat, Fred. It's big because we're already playing catch up after two draws - and a defeat, or even another draw here, puts huge pressure on us winning all those remaining 5 matches if we're to have any chance of finishing top 8 and avoiding the next knock out phase.

You say it would be a disgrace for us not to win all 5 remaining matches - but you know what we're like. We could easily drop points in away games in Czechia or Romania, or be held to a frustrating draw by one of those three winnable home games. We've done that so many times over recent years - and have already done it this campaign v Twente!

So any points picked up here - ideally a win, obviously - would really help our attempts to finish top 8. Even if we did find some consistency and win the other 5 matches, the top 8 teams will win plenty, so that might not be enough if we'd only got 2 points from our first 3 games.

It'll be mount in the 10 role won't it, isn't he fit for this? Wouldn't have minded seeing Amad play there myself. His workmate, passing and movement behind Hojlund would be deadly I think. Can't see ETH trying it though unfortunately

Ya i don't mean to discredit those teams. We're very inconsistent, but given those fixtures, id sooner a fit and rested team beat west ham above anything that happens away in Turkey.

We will sneak a win against these.

They will be driven to attack, even for a Mourinho team, and we will get one or two on the break.

Looking forward to seeing Fred in action again. I was a big fan and still think it was a huge mistake letting him go, especially for such a pathetic fee.

Jose will be looking forward to this. If he wins, it's a masterclass and if he loses, sure it's only little Fenerbahce vs the mighty Man United. It's a no lose situation for him.
