I really hope he leaves out Maguire, he has played too many games in a row.

I'd chuck Jones in for Maguire and McT and Matic for one half each. Isnt Fosu-Mensah soon ready for action?
I'd agree, but Maguire has only missed four games all season. One was through injury against Man City in the League Cup which he would have started. One was the game where the Europa League group was all but won. So, realistically he's only been rested for two games early on in the season (our first two Europa League fixtures, when that competition is a bit less of a priority). Still, that does probably suggest it is time he was rested as this is arguably our last chance to rest our best players (unless we thump LASK away for example and can rest players in the Home leg). It's a bit of a toss-up as I personally wouldn't like to see Calamity Jones play for us any more... I hope Tuanzebe is fit, I'd rather him and Bailly start.

Honestly though, if you offered me a win against Derby and a draw against Man City at the moment, I'd probably take that more-so than the other way around. I think we have more chance of beating Spurs and Sheffield United and those results will be more telling in where we finish this season in the Premier League.

Will not be crying if we lose this. The squad is paper thin to play in the prem and we also have EL. We do not have enough squad depth to compete in 3 competitions.

Even if we tried to lose, we couldn't. Derby are crap. Got family who are season ticket holders at pride park. Since Lampard left with the loan players, Derby are a sinking ship.

Saw them against my home town, Northampton, in the last round, and they didn't look that good (although they will certainly pick up the tempo against United), could have beaten them with a little bit of good fortune, even so, we scored two at Pride Park, and Derby's penalty was a bit of a joke. Would expect a strong first half from Derby, but will run out of steam second half, especially if we make Rooney run around a bit.

You either go second XI or full strength. Don't leave Bruno and Maguire trying to carry Lingard and Pereira against a side who have lost only twice at home all season, and either losing or having to play 120 minutes.

Would be curious to know your rationale behind this, other than perhaps to have a pop at Lingard and Pereira. You seem to be suggesting that because Lingard and Pereira are not very good, we would be better off playing them with other not very good players, as opposed to our better ones?

What's more important to us this season? A cup or CL football? Given our fairly shaky looking financial figures I'd say the top 4 / Europa league is way more important than the Cup. Normally I'd argue that winning a trophy is better finishing 4th but maybe this year it's not. The continuation of the re-build could be resting on us getting back in. Sancho certainly won't be joining if we're back in the Ropey cup.

Champions League football next season is much more important to us than winning the FA Cup this season. But we should be able to make changes and still get past this derby team.

This is a low priority game and with a fairly winnable opponent. Time to rotate bigly:

    Romero
    Dalot Bailly Jones Williams
    Matic
    Pereira Mata
    Greenwood Ighalo James

Agree. And with City/Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal still in the cup, winning the EL and/or ending top 4 looks far easier as well. We should of course play every game with the intention of winning, but use the FA cup to give the fringe players some needed game time.

The rationale is you do either one or two things: A) maximise the chance of winning the FA Cup match by picking your strongest team, or B) you accept that it isn't a priority and prioritise the City match with the squad selection for Thursday reflecting that.

What you don't do is play a second XI with the additions of Bruno and Maguire expected to carry a disjointed team, because you absolutely do not want those two playing 120 minutes unnecessarily.

They've lost just twice at home all season. They are very good at home.

Or C), which is the most likely thing - play a team you believe is good enough to get a result. This is likely to require at least SOME of your first XI even if not all.

I'd go for a full rotation. We're playing so many games we must rest players when having the opportunity. If we end up getting knocked out then so be it. With that in mind:

    Romero
    Dalot--Bailly--Jones--Williams
    McTominay--Pereira
    Lingard--Mata--James
    Ighalo

Subs: Bishop; Laird, Lindelof; Matic, Gomes; Chong, Greenwood

Jones worries me and Pereira and Lingard are pretty garbage but we're playing a Championship. It won't be an easy game but I'd definitely rather we rest players for the City game.

Spot on. McT needs the work, but everyone else needs a rest. The lads ran out of gas the second half of the Everton game.

    Romero
    Dalot Bailey Maguire Williams
    Pereira Matic
    Greenwood Lingard James
    Ighalo

Wayne to get on the score sheet for us.
    Agreed. I miss him. Legend.

    This.

The guy, albeit born in the wrong city for some on here, who has made many of us celebrate more United goals than any other, gets to play vs United for the first time in some 17 years. It will be awesome to see. Unless he scores.

Shame its not at OT really as the scale of the reception would have been fantastic. The away crew will as always make plenty of noise but OT for this would have been better. Match going United are a class apart when it comes to previous players and the warmth/respect they show.

Rooney fanboi? nah. Rooney playing one two's with Ronnie fan boi? all day long.

    Now lets smash them/him. ;-)

Didn't he play against us for Everton in his second spell there ?

    Full rotation.

    Jones
    Williams

    McTominay

    Gomes
    James

We'll beat them. They're nowhere near as good as the PL teams we've played of late

I'd go further still: Garner and Chong should start and why not Gomes and even Fosu Mensa if fit? Hell if Demetri Mitchell fancies a game he can have one. Short of giving the likes of McTominay, back from injury, and Ighalo minutes I'm not keen to risk any first teamers in this game.

    Ighalo
    Martial - Mata - Chong
    Matic - McTominay
    Williams - Jones - Bailly - Dalot

I'd want to rest a few players but still have a decently strong team. I want to win FA Cup so I would be very bothered if we lose and go out. Don't understand why so many don't care about FA Cup anymore.

This is why playing all of our fit midfielders in the same game was silly. So hard to know who’s fit, but Martial, Matic, Maguire, AWB, Shaw, Bruno should all be rested.

    Romero
    Dalot
    Bailly
    Jones
    Williams
    Fred

I just think we have to accept this competition is third priority and we've a thin, injury-hit squad. We can trust a less-experienced team to do the business and if they don't it'll be a shame but not seriously damaging to our season.

Full rotation please. This is not our priority.

That said, even our backups should have enough about them to win this game, depends how hard Derby fight for it.

Romero, Williams, Maguire, Bailly, Dalot, Matic, Pereira, Lingard, James, Greenwood, Ighalo

We play derby against city in two days after this game. Shame on TV companies that give likes of Liverpool 3 days to prepare and only us that'll have 2 days.
