Mctom was doing very well pre covid but all the second string have looked poor when coming on.

It's a worry that the sparkling first team is tired and any of the other players are not up to the task so far.

Just hope Palace aren't as pumped to take a point of us and come in with the flying challenges and no protection from the ref.
To be fair, coming into midfield from the bench on Monday night would have been a very difficult task for anyone. Wasn't much time to get into the rhythm of the match and our shape wasn't the best either. Tough to judge either him or Fred on those type of performances.

I hope so but we looked very similar to last season's side against Southampton.

Did we actually? Without the last second brainfart we played a good match all things considered.

Mason looks to be out from what Ole said on his ankle, hopefully makes the bench.

We really really didn't. We could barely get out of our own half in the last 25-30 minutes. At home. Against Southampton. That last minute brainfart wasn't a freak occurrence, it was coming because we literally couldn't string two passes together.

We will struggle with James because CP will sit deep. I'd rather Mata/Pereira play, although it sounds counter-intuitive.

They had most of the possession in the last half an hour, yes. But they didn't do much with it. Apart from maybe that shot in the 86th minute.

It was more the constant pressure as they pushed you futher and futher back. It told in the end.

Just looked at the table for Palace and they've lost the last five, not sure how many more, fcuk. Expecting some herculean performance now from them. What better way to wipe away those losses by doing over United.

If Ole starts James especially on the right wing then that area of the pitch is dead attacking wise
And if he starts McTominay on the right side of midfield too, then we can as well not bother playing. That James, McTominay, Wan-Bissaka combination is arguably the worst I've ever seen play regularly for us on a flank.

Its the same for all teams, we just need to get on with it.
Chelsea have Liverpool 2 days after the Cup semi as well. So like us it becomes an issue of motivation, fatigue, desire, priorities.
Same for both, and those saying Liverpool will roll over...I really doubt it having thought about it. The points record is gone but there's an opportunity to get to 99 which beats last year's and it's also the last home game, a long unbeaten home record. Plus after a bit of a cock up last night, I don't think that defence will want to repeat the complacency.

Fernandes needs a break most and Fred/Scott will re-energise us in the middle of the park

Fingers crossed we start well and give some players an early finish

Mata, Ighalo, Periera and Dalot could use some pitch time

Don't fancy us winning after the last performance. Looked knackered.
    I kind of agree.

We're basically going to have to rotate, and with our lack of depth there'll inevitably be a worrying drop off in quality. And the players we insist on starting again won't be as good due to fatigue.

However, Palace might be the most beatable team in the league right now. I think we'll win because of their lack of quality and the fact that they're definitely in holiday mode, not because we'll be on it.

We're going to start fast and win 5-0. Leicester will have already slipped to a draw against Sheffield United.
If we were playing before Leicester, I would really fancy us to win comfortably and for Leicester to then slip up, knowing they were 5th and under pressure to win.

But IMO that Southampton equalizer will lift their heads unfortunately.

I think Leicester win and then United win. I went 2-0 to United.

Shh, I'm trying to be very optimistic for once! ;)

Hardest squad selection since the break. Hoping Williams is okay for this. If Mason is still a doubt I would have James in there, with Fred coming in to replace Matic. Would keep everything else the same.

We absolutely have to win every league game and not give the others a chance. 0-3 incoming, Martial, Bruno and I'll take a gamble and say James. Can't see Van Aanholt keeping up against him.

    My apoloigies!

I really think Solskjaer should have made a bigger deal about how this round of fixtures has been arranged. Fergie would have gone mental and not shut up about it.

    A) because Leicester keep playing before us, and although they've struggled with it, this generally is a slight advantage because it allows you to put pressure on your rivals. And gain points / increase the gap before they play.

    and

    B) because we have a semi final on Sunday, Leicester have not.

Even if they'd just made us the 6pm kick off and Leicester the 8pm it would at least be a bit better. Chelsea have a huge advantage for that semi.

To provide some context to us dropping points:

Southampton beat Manchester City 1-0 8 days prior to traveling to Manchester. They are not a bad football team. In fact they are a very very good football team right now.
After the restart, Southampton have collected 11 points - Manchester United top the reboot table with 14 points. 2nd is Mancester City with 12 points. Prior to gameweek 36.

The odds of winning 9 games consecutively in the Premier League is less than 3% over a season. it almost never happens. We the fans are moaning about a statistical improbability not occuring.

A 9 game winstreak would put Manchester United in the top15 longest winning streaks in Premier League history since its 1992 inception. It happens barely once every 2 years that any team wins 9 or more in a row. It's never happened to two teams over a full season (that I can recall).

So yeah sure I'm dissapointed we didn't win all, but some calm realization that it was extremely unlikely to begin with helps to digest the blow.

Big big game tonight, for us maybe the biggest of the season so far.

A tough 4-0 win for us

    Pog
    Bruno
    Rash
    Tony

    I'd start with

    DDG

    A1B Maguire Victorious Dalot
    Pog - McT
    Bruno
    James Tony Rashford

If Mata starts we're losing. No beef with Mata but our whole balance goes with his lack of pace

Yes, we've got some tired legs in our squad, but Palace will be feeling the strain, too.

Alright, they haven't had the distraction of the cup, but they are coming into this game on the back of a losing streak.

Fans have lost confidence following the setback against Southampton, but we really should still win this. It's a question of whether OGS can successfully shuffle the pack and also instill confidence in the players following the home draw.

The doom and gloom on here is quite excessive. I hope it is not the same in the dressing room.

Yeah, I do think our fixtures could have been arranged slightly better.

Just some examples of the whole thing since the restart:

Spurs > Sheff Utd 5 Days (Could have been 4)
Sheff Utd > Norwich 3 Days (Could have been 4)
Norwich > Brighton 3 Days (Could have been 4)
    Brighton > Bournemouth 4 Days
Bournemouth > Villa 5 Days (Could have been 4)
    Villa > Southampton 4 Days
Southampton > Palace 3 Days (Could have been 4)

All it needed was moving most fixtures back one day whilst keeping a couple of them the same. We could have easily had four days between every single fixture instead of four games in a row of a game every three days from Saints onward. Poor scheduling, but oh well, we can't do anything now. I'd hope there was at least an attempt to change this from our side.

It also feels like every team we play has had at least a day extra to prepare than we have. Not exactly using this as an excuse by the way, I'm sure if I did more research plenty of other teams would have similar complaints (I'd argue we have the most to play for though and it feels like Chelsea has had a more fair schedule than we have).

Nice to see another Salford red here by the way!

Constant pressure with 1 (maybe 2 if you consider Walker Peters low cross) dangerous situations in the second half.

I'm not sure that kind of thing works anymore. Mourinho has been bitching about the fixture schedule for Spurs, and it just sounds like excuses. We've also got to really start dispelling this idea that just because Fergie did something, all our subsequent managers should do it. Football has changed, and even Fergie didn't get everything right.

I'm pretty confident we can rotate a bit and still win. Not massive, but 3-4 players. We have more than enough quality against a terrible side with nothing to play for.

Also can everyone stop shitting on Fred and McTominay please? They've kept us afloat during our worst periods this season.

Talking sense in a matchday thread? :nono:

    DDG
    AWB Lindelof Maguire Williams
    Mctominay Pogba
    James Bruno Rashford
    Martial

Even if Greenwood wasn't injured I think I'd prefer James due to his defensive work

Chelsea play Liverpool on Thursday. So they have 4 days.

Palace are shocking, we'll win this but we need to make some changes. Get Fred in for Matic, Ighalo up front with Rashford and Martial either side.

I really hope for a better first 20 minutes, United slow at the start. We seem to grow in to a game and are great before half time. No excuses, let's get the goals we need and put the pressure on. I'll be surprised if Sheffield United don't get something against Leicester. Team needs freshened up for sure. That backline better wake up tonight and get it to our midfield.
