    Karen Carney on BBC:

"You know what this game's crying out for? Jesse Lingard. They need a ball-carrier so much.

They're so deep, they need someone to get them up the pitch."

Thanks for that valuable insight Karen, but no thanks.

    She’s 100% correct.

And it can’t be any worse an idea than what we persevered with for the first 45 minutes.

2 long range efforts and a balls up by Awb/Lindelof, other than that his work has been straight forward.

    Chelsea are not that good.

I can agree that Chelsea haven't been that good. But that has nothing to do with United being solid.

    We've been atrocious.

I hope the first half has disabused anyone of the notion that McTominay deserves to be a regular starter for United.

45 minutes of doing nothing but running around mostly chasing shadows. Miracle if it stays nil nil as the team are probably nackered after that half. Hopefully bring on Donny to at least try to link up with Bruno who is having a bit of a mare due to being closed down and surrounded continuously. Cheslea know he is the only source of creativity in that midfield 4 and he ends up being creative for Chelsea whilst 70 yards from their goal.

Roll on 90 mins and hopefully we've somehow nicked a point.

We've been ok. Compact and forcing them into wide areas. Unfortunately, we've not had much going forward but there's been glimpses.

All we need is one chance.

At least the Buccaneers mean I won’t have to suffer through the entire match if shit starts going south.

We are not that bad. I would say we are a mid-table team with mid-table tactics against a top team.
Mid-table teams nowadays try to play football. They occassionally attack.

We are doing neither. Organized in defense, but have no intention of attacking. Rashford and Sancho are there so Chelsea' defenders don't attack us, but they are not even trying to attack. Of course, that is what happens when you play 3 midfielders who are good only at defending/breaking up play.

I don't know how you fix these players, to be honest.

Every fecking little facet of football looks so difficult for them. Ball control, 5-10 yard passes, pressing, tracking, midfielders thinking they have 5 seconds to decide what to do in midfield. It's all so hopeless.

Christ help Rangnick with this lot.
Any players receiving that level of coaching for almost three years would look like this. A proper coach will get them sorted.

It stands out too when 3 people are pressing but one isn't, leaving an open lane for Chelsea to pass out of. There's no reason for Rashford not to be running non stop out there

Sancho screwed up that first touch but he’s been running hard. Really perplexed about Rashford too, for all his speed and quickness he is really not a good presser.

McTominay should be binned to the first bidder. Terrible footballer.
He’s doing his part here, in trying to stop Chelsea and breaking up play.
We have nobody else to come on and do that job. Donny isn’t physical enough.
Look elsewhere for the ones who need to be sold.
There’s one up front on the left.

I don't understand our "press". You can see at times we are trying to press but it's too reactionary. Our players give them too much space and when the obvious pass goes to their player that they've given 15 yards of space, they then sprint at that player. What's the point of that? Either pick up your man or don't. This reactionary press is so dumb. You can easily see who the players are who are going to get the ball yet we leave them open until they get it. Makes absolutely no sense...
The midfield or the full backs don't follow in so they have their back 3 their 2 wingback and Jorginho against our 3 players pressing and just pass around us.

The whole team has to work as a unit.

I’m not surprised carrick is going for the least risk as there’s a new manager coming in tomorrow and it’s in everyone’s best interests to come out with a draw against the league leaders, who happen to be on a purple patch themselves.

Boring first half for sure, but pretty sure that was the plan. Be interesting to see if that's the plan for the full 90 or going to switch things up in the 2nd half. Chelsea surely getting frustrated, cause they haven't created that much and when they have pit decent balls in no one has been anywhere near it. Assuming we're just aiming not to get beat, gotta hand it to Carrick, cause it's worked and against the best team in the league right now. I just hope we actually remember we have to try and score too.

Of their few best chances, one was a ridiculous clanger of a pass from our defence and one was a freak long shot.

Can’t be much worse than who’s been out there so far.

    Terrible 1st half.
A miracle its 0-0 here, outplayed and dominated throughout.
    No shots on target.
    Abysmal.

Rashford getting all the stick all while Sancho who has been considerably worse in every aspect.... never realised how slow he is too. Rudiger getting away from him fair enough but Alonso just strolling past him?

    Attack vs defence.

Not the way I'd expect us to play, far too negative for me, its like we are waiting for them to score. It shows weak mentality.

Oh and Rudgier is an A1 PRICK !

We've been saved by De Gea. There has been nothing solid about the Forwards, Midfield nor Defence.
Your keeper is allowed to make a few basic saves without it being described as bailing you out. We had the same shit midweek.

People complained during the first half at Villarreal but it was just what we needed. The longer we had the clean sheet it gave us confidence. This is ugly but it got us to half time.

Defense has kept Chelsea at bay. Front players haven't done anything. I have no idea if Carrick will be adventurous enough to try to win it if it stays 0-0 after 60 mins. I'd take a draw if offered, it's not like we have a stellar record at Chelsea anyway.

The lack of composure on the ball is just horrible to watch, I'm so glad the club finally look to be addressing this embarrassing state of affairs. How have Manchester United teams been allowed to get this fecking bad with passing, movement and ball control?

Aside from those kind of things, which I dearly hope will start to improve in the coming months, we are looking more solid on a patch that we have had to play without the ball many many times over the years. No particular shame in that, but we need to be better on the ball if we're to spring a counter or two that will actually worry Chelsea.

Why would Carrick change anything when the game is going exactly as he would have planned?
you need to learn the difference between going to plan and hanging on. make no mistake we concede if this continues

lucky 0-0 at ht. but with even more luck sancho can control the ball and make it 0-1. we need a lot of luck to get something out of this game

And it can’t be any worse an idea than what we persevered with for the first 45 minutes.
Of course it could. He could always play the ball towards our own box and into the feet of the opposition.
