Amazing how we're playing a back 4 with all 4 playing out of position - even though two of them are actually full backs!

Their pressing is going to be a problem. That means there is no time for our players to dilly dilly on the ball at all, because one mistake at the back and they will capitalize. However, it must also be remembered that Celta Vigo's defense is terrible. If we finish our chances, I think we can do well here. However, if we possess the ball and make terrible clearances like we did against City, then we are going to be in trouble.

Celta are going to be so fresh and up for it against us. We will badly need Pogba back (Pogback).
Pogba, Herrera, Fellaini trio can cause them problems and provide some good protection for our defence.

How great would it be to blow them away 3-0 or something? Just completely take the pressure off for once.

I have watched 5 minutes of Celta Vigo vs Athletic Bilbao (including Celta conceding from a corner) just now and I'm ready to conclude that Celta are shit. :p
    they've rested about 6/7 players
Actually, only the goalkeeper, one of the center-backs (Fontàs) and a midfielder (Wass, but just 61') are expected to start against us.

that would be a dream.... had we done that at Anderlect we could have played a B team in second game, Rojo/Ibra could be fit and if my auntie had balls.....

Arsenal will come quickly after it too

It's not there full team. They resting like 6 players.
I do know that, but it makes it the Celta have to win the EL or no Europe. They have put terrible pressue on themselves. We will have to be wary. Yes they could be rusty or very rested. I just wanted Bilbao to win, so I am happy.

I believe this two legged tie is the biggest event in the club's history.

They will be giving it their all. They have some very underrated players. A bit of a "moneyball" side, as in no real star players. A mixture of locals and shrewd South American signings & players from the Scandinavian market.

Guidetti, Wass, Sisto, Hjulsager (Scandinavian). Aspas, Álvarez, Jonny, Mallo (Academy). Roncaglia, Díaz, Hernández, Cabral (South Americans).

Athletic bilbao won 0-3. Celta's players will be under huge pressure to win against us now.

Pogba and Mata should be back for this, no?

Why on earth would today's result add any pressure on them? It was a dead rubber, they have nothing to play for in La Liga. Also, as far as I know, they're not that big of a club, so not getting to Europe next year would be no disaster. They just came back to the top tier a few years ago, and haven't been in Europe for years before this season. They have next to no pressure, noone is expecting them to beat us.

Not a lot is expected of celta in the league. The pressure is due to fans who come to see the team play. Throwing away games for Europa against us will rub most of them the wrong way. They would want the team to be doing well in both the competitions.

I doubt that many Galicians are too bothered. European football is a bonus for them. They're happy to be sitting pretty in mid-table. Another year of La Liga is secure and they have the excitement of a 2 legged tie against one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Why do they have a 17k attendance in a 29k stadium then, doesn't look like the fans care either? Sure they fill it on EL nights. I don't know that much about their situation, so genuinely asking here. It's just that if they won today, they'd be 11th in the league. Where as if they drew, they'd be 11th. They lost, but they're 11th.

No danger of getting relegated, no possibility of Europe through the league. So I'd assume the fans are happy that they rest players in a meaningless league match, and you'd think they are satisfied to some extent to have went through a great journey in the EL. Their pressure to win the trophy is probably smaller than any one out of United, Lyon or Ajax, as they're not that big a club whose fans demand Europe every season.

Ummm, a centre-half partnership of Blind and Darmian? Or Blind and Carrick??

Can we just put Bailly in an ice-bath for 48 hours or something?

Or will Jose chase Smalling or Jones off their sick-bed?

Wonder if we will go to a back 3 of blind Carrick and Darmian.

Not sure I fancy either of them in a 2.

Go 352 with pogba Herrera and Fellaini, Martial and rashford up top.

    Romero
    Valencia Tuanzebe Blind Darmian Young
    Herrera Fellaini
    Mata Rashford Mkhitaryan

Subs: De Gea, Carrick, Pogba, Lingard, Rooney, Martial

Why leave Mkhitaryan out of it, when he's rested and has been scoring in almost every Europa League game? I know he's been very poor in the Premier League, but… Anyway, I wouldn't change the formation now. A cautious 4-3-3 or an aggressive 4-2-3-1 more adapted to the players available would be fine.

Don't get tricked...Celta has nothing to play in La Liga..and if they can win EL, they will go to CL, which will be a huge boost for the small team like them...

I am sure they will give us a hell if we dont prepare...their wingers is very fast, and their midfield like to play 1-2 pass..and their defense while not special is very tidy...lucky us, no big tall CF...

The players to be watched Iago Aspas and Jonny Castro (Cool nameeee)...

Just don't loose if we can not push for win...And for our sake, play 4 defenders instead of 3...and please no Rooney...

    Rashford

    Martial Mkhi Lingard

    Pogba Herrera

    Young Blind Darmian Valencia

    David De Gea

Just dont bring Fellaini...high tempo game is not suitable for him...Pogba needs all disciplines he has...

This. They will see right through his predictability and cause major problems for us.

I've been browsing through Celta forums this morning (with a little help from Google). They seem to think they've a real chance of hurting us, but that Rashford and Martial's pace could hurt them at the other end (nothing shocking really, I know).
    Anyway, here's the link:

I fear we have no option but to play him on Thursday. He can't play the Arsenal game, and Carrick can't be expected to start 3 games in a row. Unless we play a 2 man mid, it's inevitable the brush start. Such a pity as he is such a brainless and clumsy player bound to give away countless fouls in dangerous areas that could eventually cost us.

This. They will see right through his predictability and cause major problems for us.

Don't think we have much of an option, we're better off playing Fellaini who is still relatively fresh in comparison to Carrick and Herrera who desperately need a rest.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's Pogba and Fellaini.

Think that was more what I was getting at. It is just like here where teams just stop playing, yet the clubs still expect the fans to shell out money to watch a sub-standard product.

    -------------Romero--------------
    Valencia--Darmian-Blind-Young-
    --------------Carrick-----------------------Fellaini-----Pogba--------------Mata--------------------Martial-----------------Rashford-----------------

Anyone think there's a chance of Bailly or Jones playing? Bailly looked gassed from minute 1 against Swansea, I wouldn't be surprised if he just bruised/twisted his ankle a bit and it fecking hurt him, but he was too tired to carry on.
As for Jones... Start of May was his expected return date, no?

Not watched Celta recently but if they're a pressing team Carrick shouldn't start, he's been garbage against any team with energy for a long time now.

We need a big, big game from Pogba and Mikki to play his usual blinder in Europa.

I'd have Herrera and Pogba in the middle with Mikki in front... Martial and Lingard our wide with Rashford up top.

Defence should be De Gea and basically whoever we can cobble together.

I'm not interested in their league form, or lack of - Leicester were getting tonked every weekend in the league but were somehow doing the business in the CL at the same time. These guys are apparently game-raisers who have been resting key players for this EL semi-final so I'm expecting a torrid game. As previously stated, I'm expecting a 2-0 loss to be honest, I just think this is a bridge too far for us with the injuries we have and the fatigue.

If they're resting players and getting hammered, doesn't really show much depth to their squad. That's three defeats on the spin now. I'm not too concerned about them to be honest.

At least we'll have Pogba back hopefully Mkhi can up his game. Just want to get over this finish line this season. If we can win the EL trophy, that would be great for Jose's first season.
