Looks like a good old 4-4-2 like I had wanted. I'd have settled for herrera over fellaini but I guess the big man is needed for corners.

Valdes and Herrera on the bench is weird. Van Gaal doesn't trust Herrera, but surely should find use for him in the FA Cup.

At least with this selection it can pretty easily transition into a back 4 at any time with Blind just moving further across. Hope Januzaj has a good game.

The fact Pereira has not made the bench and Fletcher has does not bode well for the youngster.

is DDG really that much taller/better in the air than Valdes? these are two world class keepers here we're talking about, against Cambridge/not exactly Bayern. not really understanding what we have to risk by playing valdes here.

Hopefully it's not a 3-5-2, but Blind in the back 3 and Carrick in midfield (or opposite) both helps a lot in that formation. Also Di Maria isn't playing as a striker! Yay. Great to see both Januzaj and Wilson starting, but also Di Maria. Pretty attacking lineup though, you could argue it's 2 center backs, 2 defensive/deep lying midfielders, 3 wingers, 1 target man and 2 poachers.

Even though it's only against Cambridge, I hope our players have a good game and get some confidence back. The only weird thing I would say is no Valdes starting and no Pereira at all, though I can see Fletcher getting subbed on as a good bye.
