Right now I want Januzaj and Welbeck up front rather than Rooney and Van Persie. They have been terrible.

Mata has been the one clumsy today, slipping multiple times in the penalty area with the ball going to him.

The problem is not attackers but midfielders and defenders. What little morsels the attackers get they're expected to score from. Remember a few seasons ago when we used to produce 20+ chances and score from one or three

Young doesn't look at all comfortable at wing back. Can't defend to save his life and hasn't been good enough in attack either.

    This is painful to watch!

Defence hoofing the ball like a Sunday league team! Fletcher having yo fou and grab at players because he is too slow, Rooney being made to look average by the true world class of do Maria. Young runs up to a player dithers and then passes backwards. Mata looking so average. We can't get these injured players back quickly enough!

Too many long balls aimlessly humped up the pitch. The only players who have any space or time are the centre backs. When the ball does get up to Rooney and Van Persie they're surrounded by defenders with no options. The 'wing backs' might as well be full backs they're that far away from the play.

Yeah, thats the problem we have, this system requires excellent wing backs. We're stuck with one dimensional failed wingers, who cant beat a man, cant put a decent cross in and dont understand the idea of 'overlap'. Cant fecking wait till Rafael and Shaw are fit.

Fletcher needs to work harder to loose his marker when our defenders have the ball the only options they have now is play it to a wingback or hoof it.

If RvP had actually scored off that ball from Di Maria, we would all be singing a different tune.... crazy how things turn so easily.

It would simply be 'Great ball from Di Maria and a good finish'. There's been no indication anything else would be different.

Our wingbacks are useless, none of our CB's can pass. Mata/Roo/RVP isn't working and RVP himself looks like he's not ready.

Di maria having a strong start and De Gea is great as always

RVP and Ronney are too close to each other - they seem to be getting in each others way.

3-5-2 needs to be dropped ASAP!!!! FFS van gaal, I thought he's meant to be a tactical guru???

Our defenders have been poor with the ball but to be fair to them notice how Fletcher hasn't managed to get free once to get the ball off them and play through midfield. He's been diabolically shit. I miss Carrick.

Just appalling. No other words really. We could play all day and not look like scoring.

The long ball are a fault of Fletcher. He is giving the guys at the back NO OPTION. He is just there really.

Mata needs to start dropping deep more often and passing the ball forward. He isn't the only problem; there's still a clear lack of movement off the ball though the last couple minutes looked a bit better.

If RvP had actually scored off that ball from Di Maria, we would all be singing a different tune.... crazy how things turn so easily.

Not really. He's been terrible for the duration of the game so far. A goal doesn't change that.

He does contribute to things being static, too many times ADM asked for the ball and he took too long to pass it to him. Just like Rooney, our players love to keep the ball on their feet but they do feck all with it.
    Mata has been massively disappointing.

The entire defence seem reluctant to pass the ball to the feet of our midfielders. Yet when it is the right time to play it long and clear it you see them try to pass the ball to each other or De Gea.

Yep agree Mata doesn't have the greatest movement. But he needs runners in behind to stretch the defence. If we replaced one of the strikers with Welbeck I think we would see a massive difference Valencia and Young are playing too deep IMO.

It's basically a back 5 with them two. They should show a bit more adventure and get forward.

Like I have said in the past this is why England as so rubbish. Players with absolutely no technique whatsoever. Too much emphasis on ones who will run all day and put the boot in. I am including the United England players in this as well. What's the betting if Burnley do reasonably well, one or more of their players getting and England call-up.

RvP, Rooney and Mata shocking. Valencia and Young comfortably worse. Fletcher and Evans competing for worst player on the pitch award

That's about right. Blackett awful too. Just a terrible team performance so far. Almost comical the extent to which Fletcher hides whenever our central defenders have the ball, never seems to give them a short passing option.

I suspect simply replacing Mata with Welbeck might help us a lot in terms of creating opportunities, move Rooney deeper, use Welbeck's strength, pace and power to help build attacks.

After spending so much this season, I think it would be criminal for United to finish outside 4. I think top 2 should be expected by management after so much spending.
I agree but the problem is that the squad is so bad and so under what it should be that we could of spent £500mil and we still wouldn't be able to guarantee top 4.

Add Mata to that list then you've got a point. Having two of the three would be fine but all three ends up with us having to compromise other parts of the team, and it's not like we are seeing any benefits of having all three on the pitch at all.
Yep. And the lack of movement (maybe even pace) isn't helping either.

Mata was sooooo bad purchase. Good player but not for us

Has nothing to do with him, you could line him up with Messi and Ronaldo with this Young, Valencia, Fletcher and shaky Evans and Jones. And he would still be ineffective.

Evans is, other 2 are fine, they are getting no help from the midfield, its punt it or play it back to another defender. Fletcher is making himself unavailable, just watch him.
Evans has been the worst one IMO. Blackett hasn't given it away much, neither has Jones. Evans at times looks amateurish on the ball.

Fletcher is absolutely abysmal in midfield.

Doesn't appear to collect passes from the Defence (hence the long balls) , doesn't run too much and just strolls around , doesn't have very much pace , doesn't have very much strength , cannot tackle the ball off his man , cannot make incisive passes.

His days as a United starter are finished after this 2 week break when both Blind and Herrera are fit to play.

Our problem is when we have the ball in our back half. We need somebody to pick up the ball from the back 3, turn around and play the fecking thing forward, along the ground to a player in the same coloured shirt. Even the back 3 don't really go forward with the ball when theres space, they'll just knock it around to each other and then play a long ball. We have some players up top who are brilliant with the ball at their feet yet we keep playing it in the air.

    fecking hell its frustrating.

On a positive, Di Maria looking good.

When we break, Rooney, RVP and Mata look like 5 year olds trying to run next to Bolt when Di Maria is about.

How can we get a successful counter attack when only one of our attacking players is actually considered fast?

Why can't the wide centre backs just pass it in to the midfield instead of lobbing it.

It doesn't allow us to build up any fluid football.

Van Persie is absolute shite in this form. Doesn't give a monkeys, makes no effort. Let him play his way into the side rather than get in by default.

Either side could win. Too many sloppy moments. Only Jones has not fecked up yet in the back 5.
Rvp has been poor. I'd go for Welbeck.
