Defeat for Manchester United against Watford on Sunday saw Jose Mourinho lose three games in a row in the same season for the first time in 14 years. The 3-1 defeat at Vicarage Road followed on from a 2-1 loss to Manchester City last Saturday and a 1-0 reverse in the Europa League tie with Feyenoord on Thursday.

The last time Mourinho oversaw three consecutive defeats in a season was all the way back during his time at Porto in 2002. Between then he’s managed Chelsea (twice), Real Madrid and Inter Milan.

    Thanks for that.
I guess MUFC is all about managers arriving and breaking negative records :(

Didnt he play him there in the FA Cup last season? Cant remember if it was the final or semi. The fact that he is playing a CM on the right side of a back three tells you everything you need to know about how Jose feels about the defenders

How Jose feels about our defenders?
I think every fan also feels the same way. Our defenders are absolutely terrible and unless protected by 1 or 2 DMs, they shit themselves every time an opponent attacks them.
I can't believe that Woodward thought that our defenders were good and that Toby was an unnecessarily expensive luxury which was not required.

We haven't lost to them in 10 years or something, so looks like we're gonna break another record!

Play Pogba behind Lukaku in a 'wherever you wanna go' type role with some penetration on the flanks and we should be good.
    He'd go into hiding.

Can't say I disagree with him on the quality of our defenders. A lot of overrated, inconsistent, injury prone slackers that we employ. For a team like ours the quality there is shocking

I fear this will be Jose's final game. He probably knows that too, hence the long goodbye to Old Trafford on Monday night.

    He's not going anywhere.
He is a top class manager who cannot be easily replaced the board know this.
If he does get the boot, it will only be because he failed to get top 4 OR he may quit (which historically, he doesn't do).

Jose needs to get the players on-side and if Pogba continues to do the bare minimum, we should look at getting rid of him. Our Galactico class players are DDG, Sanchez and Pogba. Pogba is the only one of those 3, who looks to be putting in minimal effort. Maximum effort is the least we should expect.

Probably not a good idea to let your player go to Spain during a match.

I would be weary of relying on Pogba to do anything.

If one thing has come to light in recent years it's that our board (Woodward) knows f*ck all.

I don't see us winning this game and I think they'll sack him – I don’t think they’ll be prepared to take the risk on him turning it around like they did with LVG and Moyes. Ideal timing for them with the international break and we'll have Carrick/McKenna hold the fort until Zidane comes in and shows those two the door as well.

I’d be happy to see Mourinho ride out the storm for as long as it takes but it’s not happening. We’re not exactly Chelsea but we’re not the special club we portray ourselves as either. This is his last game IMO.

    Agreed on Woodward.
Within a month we shall know if this this is Jose's last game. I think he'll stay till at least the Summer.
Woodward needed a manager who could consistently get us into the CL and in Jose, he has that man. He won't let go of him easily.

Arsenal had Wenger for exactly the same reasons and their owners were quite happy for him to stay indefinitely. Only when he failed to CL football, did he leave.

Need to defend against their set pieces. Burnley have some great crossers in the squad. If we can do that we have a great chance of opening them up.

Imagine, we're not actually on TV. They are not televising this match in the UK.

How pathetic that we are playing football on a Sunday afternoon yet can't actually watch it in the country the match is being played. There are half a dozen sport channels between Sky & BT and none of them could squeeze in this match.

Thanks PL, great deal you did there.

I didn't realise that. Was looking forward to it. I hate Scudamore, SKY, & co. I have been wavering of giving Sky up for a long time, as I know many other are. Rotten premiership will come crashing down eventually.

The most important match of the season so far (due to managers future & our season), & it is not televised.

It's still just Burnley. And nothing's gonna happen to Mourinho's position even if we lose.

    Good week for Luke Shaw

Although it hasn't been a good week for United, it has been a good one for Luke Shaw with him receiving a call-up to the England squad. Mourinho spoke briefly about Luke in today's press conference:

“It’s been a big week for him that ends with a very important match against Burnley.

“That’s the most important thing. He played three very good matches and it’s not easy when your team loses two of them. He had that balance, that consistency even when the team didn’t win and especially the game against Brighton, where the team didn’t play well.

    “That is very important.

“If next week, his [England] manager decides to give him minutes against Spain or against Switzerland, that would obviously be very good for him and I think in this moment he’s feeling the good results of the hard work, and the good results of many people that work with him at different levels and try to make him a proper football player.

“For me, a proper football player is a player of consistency and he’s physically stronger, he’s mentally stronger.

“Tactically, he has a better understanding of the game.

“We are very, very happy with him and I think to go to the national team after three Premier League matches, for him, is an extraordinary feeling.”

Saw your post and checked the coverage here, and it's not on here which is a big shock for me. Usually get around 8 EPL games per weekend and Utd are always on. Havent had to get a stream in years. What am I going to do :(

    Can't believe this...

You’d like to see one of our best players sold, for us to lose the game because our CEO is crap and you see no irony in calling Mourinho negative?

How about as fans we get behind the team instead of moaning that everything is crap because the culture is so negative?

Agreed. A lot of the so-called 'negativity' is being whipped up by the media. Over the past couple of months, the press has launched attack after attack on the club. They have been poisoning the well concerning Pogba since last season. Sanchez turns up and suddenly stories appear of a rift and Pogba and Raiola pimping him out to City. It's a toxic atmosphere but one, in my opinion, that has been largely manufactured by the press. Mourinho hasn't really helped himself and Woodward too added fuel to the fire but all we as fans can do is what you suggest. That's all we've ever been able to do.

You do realise they don't pick the matches on a week by week basis based on what is deemed the most important at the time right? How could they have known that our fans would think Burnley away was incredibly important? And given we're only three games in, our most important match so far seems a bit empty as a statement.

And they've got 20 clubs' fans to satisfy not just ours?

    The latest update on injuries

"Jones is injured, as you can imagine.

"Dalot and Romero will play tonight at Old Trafford in an Under-23s match, which is a first match for them after knee surgeries and they need that a little bit but it's good news for them because after that it's the international break and after that they'll be in a real condition to play.

"Marcos Rojo started training with the team a couple of days ago. He's not ready for this match tonight but he is training with the team."

You can watch Dalot's first match for United live on MUTV tonight at 19:00 BST or join in the discussion on the U23's matchday thread.
And they've got 20 clubs' fans to satisfy not just ours?

That's fair enough and I for one, don't expect us to have all 38 games of the season televised.

But there are two matches on at 4pm on Sunday. If we as fans are expected to shell out for two separate television packages in order to watch the Premier League, surely the least we can expect is that two matches can be shown simultaneously?

    My formation

    DDG

    Valencia
    Smalling
    Bailly
    Shaw

    Matic
    Fred
    Pogba

    Rashford
    Martial

    Lukaku

    DDG

    Valencia
    Smalling
Matic (Burnley have huge forwards, Bailly & Lindelof can not be trusted)
    Shaw

    Lingard
    Pogba
    Fred
    Young

    Lukaku
    Sanchez

4-4-2 - match them. Might look shite on paper, but I think that team could get the win given our horrific form.

I think there are rules against it, probably tied into the rules of why we can't have 3pm kickoff's on telly either.

It's bollocks when you consider Bundesliga attendances and the fact that all their matches are simulcast.

We should really have access to every game on TV.

I'd like to see Jose continue with the formation he used in the last game with Sanchez or Pereira brought in, and Jones replaced obviously. Pointless loss if we just switched to it for 1 game. Curious as to why he used Herrera in defense though. Does he see something good in him to be used that way it is it just to give him game time. Either way I like the set up, I think we could improve by using it so playing burnley is the perfect game to go with it again

I think he played Herrera there for a couple of reasons. Firstly, he was on the right of the three, often covering in behind Valencia. This meant the he was facing the likes of Alli and sometimes Lucas, which made a conventional big centre back a bit redundant as it was more about mobility. I think it worked quite well.

Secondly, it allowed a bit more dynamism in the back line. Herrera is better than any of our CBs in passing and it allowed us to find a ball out easier. Valencia was 20 yards further up the pitch and Herreras passing managed to set him away. He even navigated a few tricky situations well and escaped a couple of opposition players to get the ball forward, which obviously put Spurs on the back foot.

That's pretty much how I saw it. I wouldn't mind seeing us do it again for these reasons. More often than not he'll be facing a winger in that role, so it's not a physical battle and he's dogged enough to do well against these players. The major plus side is that he can help us turn defence into attack better than any of our CBs.

Don't think here was anything tactical about the decision to play Herrera in a back three, more letting the World and his Brother know that he didn't trust Lindelof or Bailly against one of the better teams in the League. A message to Ed Woodward as well. Classless from Jose.

    Please play this team Jose:

    -----------------De Gea

    ----------Bailly Lindelof Smalling
    Valencia----------------------------Shaw

    ------------------Matic
    -------------Fred------Pogba

    ----------Lukaku-------Sanchez

Jose, for fecks sake play Sanchez on the right and Martial on left.

In otherwords, Herrara was the ball playing CB we have been searching for.

I’m inclined towards this now, the argument against it initially was Sanchez is much better from the left. He has been really poor and has no claim whatsoever on the position so I’m much more open to it now

Is this game not being televised? It's doesn't seem to be on Sky or BT? If it's not being televised in the UK what's the point of playing it a 4pm on a Sunday?

Was about to say the same thing. Makes no sense. Only 4 games in and having to resort to dodgy streams.

I agree, moyes should have gone in November, but the board kept it going and going and going. Jose for me burnt too many bridges last season with allot of the players, and he’s just seeing the fruits of his behaviour biting him again. The players he relies on are not doing it, the players he does not like are not playing for him. What’s been a concern is at this club, effort players are being relied on by the manager over the talented ones, we at this stage I have no clue what Jose is, is he a coach? Because I don’t see any kind of prep on players progressing and the team playing, has a manager he’s not bothering. He’s just at the stage where he’s just not in love with the game, and the fans are the ones have to suffer when the people running the club care only about themselves

I have absolutely no clue who to put in my lineup prediction.... so random.

I think it's only on Sunday because of Burnley's EL participation.

It is a re-arranged game because Burnley played on Thursday, like when we were in the EL.

Another game not on Saturday. feck right off.

I blame our poor start on this.
