Feel somehow that we'll face City in semis if we win this game, so it will make once again a lot of fuss. Mourinho and Guardiola for two games.

We have a tough schedule in terms of number of games until mid Jan with the Leicester game coming this weekend, so we need to rotate the squad, a clearly tired squad.

    4-2-3-1

    Romero

    Darmian
    Lindelof
    Blind
    Shaw

    Herrera
    Mc Tominay

    Mkhitaryan
    Mata
    Martial

    Ibra

    Romero
    Darmian Lindelöf Smalling Shaw
    Herrera McTominay Pogba
    Mkhitaryan Ibrahimovic Martial

4-0 to us. Hopefully Zlatan gets a few.

    Romero
    Darmian Lindelof Blind Shaw
    McTominay Herrera
    Mata
    Mkhitaryan Rashford
    Ibrahimovic

Same size as Smalling, isn't it?

    2 or 3 cm's taller than Smalling.

Aden Flint? He also has 6 league goals in 17 games so far this season, absurd reading for a centre back.

And only one of them is with his head.

If we are playing 3-5-2 I would like to see Tuanzebe (who was fantastic against Swansea in the last round) and possibly even Joe Riley (at RWB with Shaw at LWB) feature.

Yeah, would be interesting to see those 2 youngsters. Would probably save Shaw for Leicester, unless Valencia is ready.

 Christ, you're so formal with some of these guys. Next time maybe just use their middle and mother's maiden names.

It's mostly to make it look good on paper  I have some OCD-thingy when it comes to making line-ups on redcafe.

    My team would be:

    Romero
    Rojo, Jones, Lindelöf
    Darmian, Pogba, McTominay, Lingard, Shaw
    Martial, Lukaku

    made a small correction

I wouldn't give Pogba anything other than a cameo in this game despite the ban. Herrera and Mctominay to get the job done with a 3 man CB grouping. and shaw at WB. Ibra and Rashford to start up front.

The league cup might be the only competition Carrick could play, hope we don't get knocked out. But I hope he never plays again if he can't recover with 100% certainty.

Hope to see Mikhi involved and see his reaction on the pitch, if he will not play then surely he is off IMO.
He will have to put in an incredible shift for Mourinho to even consider him in the starting line-up after this match. We all saw the game-by-game downing of tools before the eventual dropping. It's hard to trust someone after that kind of public disregard for the team and themselves.

Zlatan will score a brace, McTommy will make an assist and get a yellow, all the while Romero keeps his sheet clean.

Seeing as I think I'm one of the more positive posters on here in terms of the state of our season and football, it bothers me that I have a bad feeling about this game. Completely irrational, but present

Think de Gea, Young, and Matic should be left out of the squad entirely, with Lukaku on the bench. Valencia, Bailly, and Carrick obviously injured so won't be there either. With no Valencia and most likely, Young rested for the Premier League game as he's basically our first choice at RB and LB with Tony V out, I don't think we will play three at the back.

Think Jose will go strong for this one, as it won't be easy at all and is a good chance of winning Silverware again..

Jose has a good history in this competition having been the winning manager a joint record 4 times.
One of the traits I have always liked about Jose, is that he takes every competition seriously, and always wants to win everything.

I think we will have a torrid time at Bristol, but maybe they might place their priorities in promotion...that remains to be seen, but hopefully we will come thorough a hard fought battle..!!

Where has this come from ?

I don't expect him to start but he said he was fine yesterday on social media.

No point in putting a strong team out for this. It's the start of a congested fixture period and if we lose, so what? It's the League Cup. I'd rather we just played our second team throughout the competition.
Jose doesn't do that much. He plays an almost strong team regardless of the competition.

Looked like a hamstring injury when he came off against West Brom? I'd guarantee he won't be in the squad tomorrow (doubt he would've been anyway). Hopefully he is fit for Leciester, but if it is hamstring then I would be amazed if he's risked.

    LOL. Yep.
It was also very frustrating that we never got to play a full strength team, vs MCFC, who were also at full strength.
As we saw against Bournemouth - without Pogba, we are probably a mid-table team, at best.

So...we've been without Pogba for a few months this season.....and we're 2nd in the league?? I like your logic.

Bristol City will be well up for this game. Should be a good one. I'm going for a 2-1 to United.

    Decent options

Hope we go for a 3-4-1-2, even if Bristol only play 4 at the back. We have so many centerbacks it's a pity to leave two of Blind, Rojo, Lindelöf and Tuanzebe out.

All the people suggesting a weakened side don't know Jose too well. He'll run his first 11 into the ground to ensure a trophy. The league looks unlikely at the moment CL just as unlikely if we're being realistic. It'll be a near full strength 11 with a small number of fringe players playing.

Really? Don't take everything he says at face value. You know who started Swansea in the previous round? Lindelöf, Tuanzebe, Darmian, Herrera, McTominay, Blind and Lingard.

Ah bollocks. I thought this was tonight. Hate it when that happens, getting amped all day for the game, and it's not even on. My own fault for not reading the date.

I guess I'll watch the West Ham game, and witness the super being that is David Moyes put on a tactical masterclass.

The cups now become our priority, so tomorrow I expect us to go quite strong, as we'll be looking to land this pot again.
The big fella to get back amongst the goals tomorrow I think

Sorry if posted before; from manutd.com

Jose Mourinho says Manchester United must take Wednesday’s Carabao Cup quarter-final clash with Bristol City ‘really seriously’ given the standard of the Championship and has also hinted Henrikh Mkhitaryan could return to the matchday squad.

The Reds travel to Ashton Gate to face a high-flying City side, who currently sit third in the Championship and have already knocked three top-flight clubs out of the competition.

United boss Mourinho admits he will not be making too many changes to his squad given the high level of football in the second tier, but feels Mkhitaryan could feature for the first time since the win over Brighton in November.

"He [Mkhitaryan] can [be back],” Mourinho told reporters following the 2-1 win over West Brom. “I am making a few changes for the match, but not many because Bristol City are one of the best teams in the Championship.

“For me now, the Championship is not the Championship of five or 10 years ago. The Championship is now high-quality teams with lots of players that could be playing in the Premier League easily. So we need to take the game really seriously. I am going to make a few changes and it is possible Micki is involved.”

Mourinho also reiterated why the Armenian has found himself out of the Reds’ matchday squads of late.

“At the moment, we are playing [Juan] Mata, [Marcus] Rashford, [Jesse] Lingard or [Anthony] Martial and [Romelu] Lukaku," he added. "So, on the bench, we have [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic and one of the other ones, Martial or Rashford. So there is no space for everyone because you need balance on the bench too."

Sergio Romero is an option to keep goal after appearing in both previous matches in the competition, particularly considering David De Gea was subjected to a couple of bruising challenges at West Brom. Antonio Valencia appears unlikely to play after suffering a hamstring problem, while Axel Tuanzebe was not involved in the Reserves' 1-1 draw with Leicester City on Monday to hint at his possible inclusion in the squad.

Mourinho has suggested Nemanja Matic has been carrying an injury of late but felllow midfielder Paul Pogba is back from a three-game suspension.

Martial for Wilson and would make a lot of sense
Ahh yea couldn't disagree. But I was on a mission to see if we could put out a group who should get the job done and rest most of the main guys.
Could argue Rash and Tony have had plenty of rest and rotation already I suppose.

Arsenal and City got away with almost complete second teams against Premier League adversaries, so…

West Ham and Leicester also rested players. This is Bristol City's biggest game of the season.
