Certainly giving players a chance to cement a starting slot, not sure why anyone would include Darmian, as he's as good as gone and doesn't look at all interested in anything other than going shopping with his Mrs. Hope the players take their chances and no one moans about the needing a regular run to look decent....
Maybe to get more money for him, or others, if he, they, do good?

I think whoever performs better between Martial and Rashford will start on Saturday.

I also think that the fullback positions are up for grabs.

I have PTSD as a result of how we played against Sevilla with Fellaini in our team. I used to not worry about him as much, but I get shivers every time I see him now. Never mind playing for us

Isn't this a legit issue though? Players need to play together frequently to build understanding, and also to shake off rustiness.

I like the line-up, and I really hope Jose meant what he said about players having an opportunity to prove themselves tonight.

Why are Fellaini, Darmian and Shaw starting? If they're more or less certain to leave? Why not give McTominay or Joe Riley a start?
Shop window I guess (in the case of the latter two anyway). Mourinho just likes Fellaini.

Against Spurs, we will play 3 man midfield, so there are 2 attacking positions to fill alongside Lukaku. Very unlikely it will be Rashford.
    Fair point.

Not the fugly grey kit again :o

I like the lineup though, we get to see something different.

Yes it can be an issue. But they play together every single training session, hardly like any of them are new signings.

    5/11!

Never saw that one coming! Watch us hammer them 4-0 now!

    It's shop window time!

Jose must be going all in for the FA cup or is making a statement with this lineup. We know he doesn't trust many of those players in the backline so why put so many of them in the same lineup?

Guessing for the FA Cup game: De Gea, Young, Valencia, Matic and Lukaku are definites. Would probably put Sanchez in that group too. So question is who will be center backs (probably Smalling +1), and who takes up remaining 4 midfield and attack spots (4 of herrera, Pogba, Fellaini, Martial, Rashford, Mata, Lingard).

Matic, Lukaku, Sanchez, Valencia, Young, Mata all out of starting XI.

If all of them end up playing against Spurs, does that mean the ones who played today as well as the West Brom match are the ones Jose thinks were making things too complicated

If today's players mess up, he can pick his trusted players to play against Spurs without being questioned.

    11/11 !

Kidding aside, that's an interesting lineup. Mata out of the squad and Sanchez dropped to the bench. Assuming Lukaku is being rested.
They're all being rested imo. The clue is in Matic and Lukaku not starting

So are we playing strikerless?Lingard in behind a front two?Or one of Rashford/Martial playing as the striker and Lingard with whoever isn't the striker out on the wings?

What on earth is going on?

What the feck has Fellaini done to get in ahead of McTominay?

Is Scott no longer the bright kid whom Jose loved? Or is he starting on Saturday

    Ditto.

Nah. Tony and Smashley are just being rested.

It's the grey kit that wrecks it for me.

Me too. But then again, players like Darmian and Fellaini don't deserve to play in the beautiful red kit.

I am guessing Jose is trying to catch Bournemouth players by surprise with that lineup

Interested to see pogbas attitude out there, think he puts in a top showing or he won’t start at Wembley - feels José giving him a last chance to show some desire to play and not stroll again

I'm actually OK with that. I don't mind Darmian. Anyone could do better Valencia at this point. If he does the basics well tonight then start him against Spurs. Same with Shaw. If our fullbacks play well they deserve to play on Saturday. Jones Smalling partnership is worrying though. Those two always mess things up at the back. The midfield is probably the best we could do at this point. Front 3 is perfect.
