I'm expecting a nice, professional performance. 1 or 2:0 win would do. I'm not expecting a drubbing from us.

Need to make changes to the squad with having St Etienne in mind. Not sure which changes tbh :)

That Valencia goal from 2012. Thought that's that, we're champions... :(

We are one of 6-7 teams with realistic chances to win the tournament....I would say we have a good chance, and I can't see any team that makes me think: we are underdogs here. We are ONE of the favourites...
No doubt. goes without saying. Just someone else said we are favourites. This thing is hard to win. Better teams than us have faltered before.

There was someone on the radio the other day from one of the big betting companies and we were the favourites, not sure if we were clear or with Spurs, but they said we were the favourites.

Correct. It's still another 7 games until the final. It's going to be hard to win.

Roma, Rostov, Bilbao and Fiorentina are good teams.

We're comfortably better than those teams. Short of a dreadful performance we should be making at least the final.

Why are we favourites to win the Europa? did we not finished 2nd in our group? I see about 9 teams who could pose a serious threat and possibly knock us out

    From Bet365:

    Manchester United @4.33
    AS Roma @7.50

    Olympique Lyonnais @13.00
    Athletic Bilbao @15.00

    From Paddy Power:

    Manchester United @4.50
    AS Roma @8.00

We are THE favourites. Yes we could get knocked out at any time. Yes there are some strong teams still in the competition. But at this moment in time we are favourites to win the competition outright.

    It's a very good answer this :)

We're comfortably better than those teams. Short of a dreadful performance we should be making at least the final.

We're not comfortably better than the two Italian clubs. People forget that our away form in Europe is poor.

We should be winning it, but it's very difficult because of our league schedule.

It's a Cup competition, can't say we should be making the final this far out, one bit of bad luck and you're out. We need a kind draw. Roma are very good also, they won their first leg 4-0 away from home and they're 2nd in Serie A.

Course you can, I qualified my answer by saying avoiding a dreadful performance anyway. Along with Spurs we are the best side in the competition. Regardless of the draw we should be beating every side we come up against, simple really.

But we are though. How many roma players would you swap in for ours?

Confirmed United squad members (MEN photographers):

    Sergio Romero
    Dean Henderson
    Timothy Fosu-Mensah
    Matteo Darmian
    Eric Bailly
    Chris Smalling
    Marcos Rojo
    Bastian Schweinsteiger
    Michael Carrick
    Paul Pogba
    Ander Herrera
    Jesse Lingard
    Ashley Young
    Juan Mata
    Marcus Rashford
    Anthony Martial

Daley Blind and Henrikh Mkhitaryan live nearby and tend to rendezvous with teammates at the hotel, however Mkhitaryan missed the midweek victory over St Etienne through illness.

M.E.N. photographers could not identify one player who arrived behind Chris Smalling but speculated it may have been Luke Shaw. Anthony Martial arrived separately and Marouane Fellaini has turned up before his teammates for previous home games.

Lots. I'd swap most of our centre backs for theirs. I'd swap Herrera for Nainggolan. I'd swap Carrick for Paredes. Salah is better inside forward than anyone in our squad. Džeko is as good as, if not better than the current version of Ibrahimović.

We're two pretty even teams overall.

So no Rooney again then? Why has this thread all of a sudden become a EL thread and the merits of Roma?

Carrick can't get in our starting XI, we have 5 clean sheets on the bounce in a tougher league and Bailly is the best centreback of the bunch. Herrera is a better player than Naingogolan and Dzeko is a failed reject from a city side who can boast no player who has scored more goals than Zlatan this season. You are seriously reaching here mate.

Correct. It's still another 7 games until the final. It's going to be hard to win.

    Ajax, Spurs, Shakter, Fenerbachce.

We are comfortably better than everyone, everywhere according to the caf, yet we haven't been a force in Europe for god knows how long. The last champions league campaign should've humbled you. We are also 6th. People are making too much of our current form as if we are world beaters all of a sudden. The only team of note we have beaten is Spurs during this unbeaten run. We have also struggled on multiple occasions vs Hull City under a european manager. We will face similar tactical tests with the variation that exists in the tournament. To expect us to reach the final is arrogance which we don't warrant. Someone like Schalke will probably knock us out on their day.

Nainggolan is good but good enough to displace Herrera in the form he's in? No way. Their centre backs are pretty good and I'd agree that we'd look better with one of them alongside Bailly. Paredes is good but who would he displace? Herrera or Pogba? Again, not for me.

Everyone else you've mentioned wouldn't start for Mourinho's United. Martial and Mkhitaryan are both better than Salah - no one in their right mind would choose the latter if given the option of all three. Ibrahimovic is definitely better than Dzeko though, albeit Edin is having a good season in Italy with Roma.

As I said in the Europa League thread, Roma are serial losers/bottlers - the Italian Arsenal, if you will. I fully expect them to go out next round - certainly don't expect them to challenge for the EL, despite their impressive win away to Villareal.

You definitely wouldn't want Dzeko on penalty duty rather than Zlatan.

I'd take Naingogolan. hes a beast. I reckon he would dominate Ander. He even has his own "heel" tackle. The way he hunts after the ball. we need an animal like that

Carrick has been a regular for most of the season. I don't think Herrera is better than Nainngolan who is not far off Vidal. He's been excellent for around 4 years now. Herrera is good, but let's not pretend that he's Modrić.

Džeko is one of the best strikers of the past 10 years. Being undervalued by City during his final season doesn't change that. He was a key player in both title winning seasons and their first League Cup triumph. I'd certainly take a more mobile 30 year old over Ibrahimović who is basically our new Rooney. You don't score 49 goals for a nation like Bosnia & Herzegovina if you're an average player.

You sound like one of those United fans who overrates our players and thinks we're automatically better than most sides just because of the name alone.

What are you on about? No one had any illusions of grandeur under Moyes and LVG. To compare our current side and manager to those of the past 3 seasons is ridiculous.

This is Europa League mate, no one has said we are world beaters. When our 'current form' includes 5 clean sheets on the bounce and the longest unbeaten streak in European top flight you can dare to dream it's more than an upturn in form. We've added Pogba, Zlatan, Bailly and Mhikitaryan to our ranks. We are a different proposition than we were 5 months ago. Theres a reason why we are clear favourites, or are all bookmakers also members of the cafe?

If Džeko is one of the best strikers of the past 10 years then Zlatan really must be God. Incredible then that despite his brilliance he failed at city and wasn't picked up by anyone better than Roma.

I'm 'one of those fans' that understand the likes of Zlatan, Mhkitaryan and Mourinho don't magically becomes average just because they signed for us.

Are you freaking kidding me, Zlatan is our new Rooney, are you nuts? He's got 23 goals this season!

All bookmakers must also 'those United fans' too because they make us comfortable favourites too.

He didn't fail at City. That's like saying Berbatov failed at United. Your sentence reeks of snobbery. As if Roma were Hull. With guys like Morata, Llorente and Mandžukić having played for Juventus in recent years, he could easily have played for them too. He's probably on a decent salary.

Mkhitaryan isn't producing near to what he did last season. On current form, he's no better than Salah.

Rooney scored 34 goals during the 2011/2012 season, despite his general play being average. Ibrahimović is doing the exact same thing, which is more understandable given his age. We will not return among the elite of European sides with him as an ever present. He's a good stopgap for now, and his aura helps lift pressure from other players. But sadly, we're too reliant on his goalscoring.

I have never paid any attention to the bookmakers. Odds change overnight. Are we one of the favourites? Yes. Are we a good few yards ahead of other potential winners? I don't think so. Not with our away record.

I hear you and I know exactly who we have added. We still finished 2nd in our group and have recorded few impressive wins thus far. We have been beating the likes of West Ham, Reading, Middlesbrough, Watford, swansea, Palace, Sunderland, Leicester. this doesn't make me dare to dream. We have one win over teams in the top 7 which is the quality of opposition we would need to get pass, the deeper we go. We won't be facing the quality of teams I have listed above, in the europa.

I think you'll find your general view of all things football in the minority my friend.

    Salah > Mhkitaryan
    Džeko > Zlatan

    That's bonkers.

    5 goals and 4 assists?
You either so want to count stats or you don't. It wasnt 5 minutes ago you were condemning Zlatan despite his goal scoring and assist record this season.

So you give up. Fair enough.
Yeah I do. You're trying to tell us Salah is better than Mhkitaryan and Dzeko is better than Ibra. How to do argue with such ridiculousness.

What's the point arguing with someone or harbour such ridiculous opinions? You can find another mental case to argue with.

Salty because you couldn't change my opinion. I'm not a sheep like most.

Again, the mods obviously turn a blind eye to long term posters.

Have you fallen and hit your head?

Less a sheep more a donkey.

Dzeko has been just as good for roma as Zlatan has been for us. Similar kind of game they play. Wouldnt say hes better but could be argued they are equal. Salah has contributed well but mhki is much better. Both opinions arent based on stats btw

For crying out loud people!!! Salah? Dzeko? Roma? EL? No. No. Stop with this sh*t and talk/write about Blackburn - Man United game!

Btw, Dzeko was never, is not, and never will be better than any old, current or future version of Zlatan...
