I think the fact he has repeatedly given the ball away in his short camoes throughout the season has people worried.
It also makes it more likely we're playing 5 at the back, a system with which we have struggled pretty much everytime, rather than if Herrera was in there.

If it's 3 at the back then I can understand Fletcher starting but if not then it's a fecking weird move.

Bates tweeted it just as the lineup prediction deadline closed. He must be here somewhere.

Get a grip Van Gaal. Fletcher over Herrera is just ridiculous.

    Carrick and Fletch in midfield?
Fletch as the only midfielder with Mata and Rooney might be too much for him.

For someone so insistent on the team putting out great performances and dominating the match, it's baffling how LVG keeps picking 3-5-2 when it's not needed, especially when you consider that we've not put in even one good performance with that formation.

I personally don't want Fletcher to start, but I'm not the manager, and neither are you, so I guess there's nothing we can do about it. If Fletcher starts, it's because Blind is injured, and Van Gaal feels Carrick is needed in our back three. Therefore, that only leaves Fletcher.

As for Van Gaal, he hasn't been always started 352. Recently, it was only after the Stoke game, where we played three at the back, because we had Southampton and Liverpool, and thankfully won those two games.

    We can moan ;)

Seriously, I kind of understood choosing 3-5-2 with so many defenders injured, but right now Rafael, Jones, Evans and Blackett are fit, and we can also play Valencia/Young at full-back. Our key player is Carrick, and we should really have his calming presence in the middle of the park. I know LVG rates him highly as a sweeper, but why make things uncomfortable for us? I don't think we would be any worse off defensively with Carrick, Herrera and Mata in the middle, even if it means our defence might be slightly worse. Rafael, Jones, Evans and Young are good enough to hold their own, with the added protection of Carrick in CM. Fletcher gives us nothing these days, he can't handle the pace of the game anymore and his passing has been erratic.

Edit: Oh well, just read Herrera is ill. feck this shit, can we get a break with injuries, illness and suspensions...

Sick of this 352. To be honest. Why are we putting our best midfielder by a million miles in defense.

If is solidity he wants, just play a base of Carrock and Fletcher.

If Fletcher is playing, he's probably feeling fine. He needs a game. I think we're confident but I think it's probably his last season at the club. We so many games coming up in a short space of time, it might be a wise decision as we should be comfortable today. Oh and Ander might have the shits :)

No, we did that vs Bayern Munich away and it was fecking horrible. Fletcher should not be starting for United, ever.

I got it spot on. It's obvious:

    • LVG loves 3-5-2, and he won't drop it until we lose a game or two
    • he sees Herrera as a defensive liability

Great. If not injuries, its illness

Blind, Fellaini and Ander out and Carrick playing at the back. Our midfield is cursed.. as is our defence.

That makes more sense. I'm (reluctantly) glad it's out of necessity rather than simply fancying Fletcher ahead of Herrera.

Although having said that, Valencia in midfield would've been a better option, for me, with Rafael as right back (or right wing back if LVG is insistent on playing 3-5-2). I'd be much more confident with that team than one with Fletcher and Evans in it, whose sole job it seems is to give the ball away as much as they can.

You're the one that needs to get a fecking grip, christ. First he didn't rate Shaw, then Mata, Falcao, now it's Herrera, he can't fecking play them all at once, and for the millionth time, Herrera isn't a defensive minded midfielder - and I suspect Van Gaal needs one of that if Carrick will be playing as a center back.

Fletcher has to play as Herrera is ill. Apparently. What I'm saying is ther s no need to play 352

Play Valencia in the midfield three with Carrick and Mata, much better than having Fletch in there. No need to play 3-5-2 at all...

    De Gea
    Rafael - Jones - Evans - Young
    Valencia - Carrick - Mata
    Rooney
    RVP - Falcao

Many of you need to get a grip now. It's Manchester United, not Herrera United.

Have the feeling 352 isn't going anywhere. Blind's return makes it more likely to stay.

Blind needs to stop shagging Herrera and Fellaini. It's not a coincidence they're all "ill" on the same weekend.

It would be ridiculous if we play Fletcher in 352 in same role as we played Fellaini lately. If we need to play him at least have Carrick in midfield first.

It has nothing to do with the midfielders we have, its all about the fullbacks or lack thereof. As long as they are injured, the 3-5-2 stays.
