I think we'll end up changing the formation before half time. Our saving grace here is that our bench is very good. Mata, Januzaj, Herrera and Wilson can all make a difference. Two of them, if not three of them, should be starting, but never mind.

Only change I would make is Herrera for Fellaini (providing Herrera is fully fit). The three at the back is forced by the players available. Nobody wants Valencia or Smalling playing as an out-and-out right back (except when it suits their moaning purposes) of course.

Fellaini was the right choice against a team like Arsenal. We've tried to play possession football so far, but I reckon we'll go for counter-attack today. Or at least I hope so. I don't think it'd be wise to play Arsenal at their own game when they're currently better than us. They'd find it easier to cope with a system that contains Herrera than one which utilises Fellaini to his fullest.

It is quite odd that we went back to 3-5-2 after all this time, I assumed that just that idea was just killed off. Of course it could still be a 4-4-2, but I doubt it. I still have an odd confidence about this game.

Who is not allowed to play? We've spent upwards of £75-80m on players like Herrera, Mata & Blind within the year, only one of whom is injured, and we're starting with Carrick & Fellaini (with Valencia overlapping)...It's a bit disheartening is all.

Not that hard is it? I would love for Fellaini to prove us wrong but he hasn't been THAT good. So far this season Fellaini has shown that he can be useful for us (good on him) but Herrera has shown he can be a certain starter for the coming years. It's ok if he still struggles with his injury but why has he been placed on the bench the last weeks if he's still injured?

Dude, he is suffering/recovering from injury.
When a player has been injured for a few weeks and started to do light training, you cannot immediately throw him on the pitch, in a competitive game.
You have to bring these players back gradually.
And the longer they have been out, the slower their introduction back to the 1st team will be.
For this reason, you wont see any of our absent defenders play a full 90 minutes for at least a few weeks.
The same goes for Herrara.
Falcao, if he ever plays 90 minutes for us, is probably a few months away from reaching 100% fitness, as his injury was serious (ie. career threatening).
And dont ask me about Blind - I dont think even he knows when he'll play a full game, again.

I believe this was down to his injury.
Since then LvG is starting him on the bench. I suspect that running with a cracked rib is causing problems, which is why he is not 100% and therefore not starting any games.
Give him a few weeks.

How is it better to play with 3 at the centre back when two of those are hugely inexperienced? Looks like a disaster to me.
I'd rather we went with the extra man in midfield.
