Shows how good Fergie is more than anything.

Had a dream we were 2-0 up, then Valencia scored two worldies to level the score followed by Rooney diving to win a penalty in the 94th minute which RVP duly converted to win the game.

Thank goodness that won't happen today.

Merson predicts 2:1 win for Arsenal...for some reason i feel more positive about us not loosing.

Apart from Michael Owen (who predicted a 2-1 United win), everyone on BT Sports Live Match of the Day, needless to say which includes people like Fletch & Savage are predicting an Arsenal win.

Steve Bates (pretty accurate when it comes to lineups this season) speculates

Do we actually have 11 players fit enough to play? Got a really nasty feeling about this one...

Considering we are in a mess with injuries, I'd risk going back to the diamond to at least release Di Maria to worry their defence like he did to Lester before disaster arrived

I bet LVG is chuffed to have Young back available. Seems to rate him above Shaw.

    What the feck?

That's when you immediately realize you must be dreaming.

I'd imagine Smalling at CB, Valencia at RB, Blackett at LB and McNair at CB. If it ended up McNair/Blackett in the centre I would be seriously worried. Don't like that side anyway, looks like we are going defensive.
I'd prefer anyone to Smalling at CB - the guy is just a nightmare waiting to be dreamed!

    Shaw is a LB
    Thanks.

Where would Shaw be then? I'm guessing Blackett goes on the bench if Shaw is fit.

Bates is always spot on when it comes to our lineups. So let's pray Shaw will be fit.

Well if he always picks 3 different versions he's likely to get one of them right!

 Gooners don't even win in their dreams anymore.

Van Persie will start and score tonight. Hard to keep him on the bench for such an important game when Mata himself hasn't pulled any tress so far this season.

That formation is nothing but a fancy 4231 with Herrera on the right. Just because it is adorned with
900 words, it doesn't make it special.

Phew, I was beginning to get ideas above my station...

Seriously though, it's very much not a 4231. A 4231 has wingers, this doesn't - a diamond is made of central midfielders, and the width comes from the fullbacks. In a 4231 two of the midfielders sit deep, whereas in that formation only Carrick does. In a 4231 every player has a specific role, whereas in this one Fellaini is free to go and do the very specific things he's good at without worrying that he'll leave a gap or anything.

Maybe read those 900 words more carefully before you start pulling up 'tress'. ;)

All four genuises on soccer Saturday think it will be Arsenal.

Even, with injuries, I can't for the life of me work up a fear of Arsenal. I'm going for 2-1 united.

3-5-2, Young and Valencia over Januzaj and Mata (+ Herrera if he's fit and on the bench again)... OK. Bates has been pretty accurate lately, so basically we're fecked again. Even Arsenal can't find a way to feck up against a side and setup as crap as this (if it's true).

If Sanchez is fit and carries his good form on I can see it being a very tough game for us, especially given the balance they have in MF.

If van Gaal does persist on playing van Persie, then I'd like to see us revert to the 4-4-2 diamond. It's the only logical solution when accommodating him, as it means Rooney is allowed to play in his best position upfront and is at worst, a support striker, and we can still maintain some solidity in midfield with plenty of numbers.

    My impromptu starting eleven, whilst begrudgingly selecting van Persie (as it's painfully obvious he will start) would be as follows;

    de Gea
    Valencia - Smalling - McNair - Shaw
    Carrick
    Fellaini - di Maria
    Herrera
    van Persie - Rooney (c)

Subs: Lindegaard, Blackett, Fletcher, Young, Januzaj, Mata, Wilson

Some of the key points from that team which could prove decisive in the outcome of the game.

    • Rooney and di Maria (arguably our two best outfield players) are restored to their most effective and favoured positions. The former needs to be in as close proximity to the goal as possible and in midfield in recent games he has been far too deep where he cannot influence proceedings well enough, while the latter has disappointed in every game he's played out wide and loses a lot of his dynamism if he can't run into central areas as much and becomes all too predictable.
    • Herrera playing at #10 opposed to Mata. Possibly a bit harsh on Mata that Herrera's starting place comes at his expense following his winning goal, but Mata lacks the industry and defensive work that Herrera can provide in abundance and he might be able to showcase his pressing from the front to greater effect in a more advance position. We can't play ADM there, as we don't want his back to goal and Fellaini is not a #10. Herrera probably won't be sublime at playing between the lines, but I certainly think's he's the most suitable player for a game against Arsenal, aside from Rooney.
    • Smalling immediately back into the side on his return from suspension. Okay, our hand is forced with this one, but I really don't expect him to make costly errors like against City. That was his first ever red card throughout his career and he has received just seven yellows in his tenure here - including one against City. I expect him to rise to the challenge, as he is our best centre back (among admittedly weak competition) and the perfect player to tackle Welbeck pace. Subduing Welbeck obviously doesn't determine the result, as Sanchez is the main dangerman, but if Smalling gets the better of him, Arsenal are probably depending on Sanchez to pull something out of the bag like he has done so often this season.

While speaking about Liverpool's fav topic "Net Spend" Big Nose Thompson mentioned United having a net spend of 130+M

Where does he get his figures from? United's Net Spend was around 91+m if I recall correctly.

Have any of the resident Gooners posted a likely line-up for Arsenal today? It's hard enough keeping tabs on our injury situation without having to research our opposition's status.
