The only winger else we got is Martial , so one of them will start regardless . Agree with Hererra but Carrick and Pogba together won't bad in controlling the game + He may have thought of resting Andre for the Chelsea game as he'll need his dynamism against them while today may not need him much .

It certainly looks like Jose is prioritising the Chelsea game

LvG was pretty straightforward. Got 14+ points 10 times last season. Only managed it 4 times this season.

This season I've got 8 or fewer points 18 times compared to 8 times last season.
Could that be due to the fact that United suffered countless injuries last season, so team selections became pretty straightforward?

He probably wants to get the best of both games so he decided to rotate a bit tonight , but I still believe it's a very good team and should have a good match .

Uefa suggest United will play in 4-3-3
Rashford down to start on the left wing, which will further anger Martial’s following.

DDG, Valencia, Herrera, Pogba, Mykhtaryan, Rojo and Zlatan are certain starters nowadays. Carrick and Fellaini come in if we're playing 4-3-3 or if someone of Pogba or Ander is injured. Mata plays as nr. 10 often, sometimes Mickhi, and instead of Martial Lingard or Marcus sometimes start.

I fully expect a more fixed first 11 next year, base is already here.

    Apparently not.:) Great timing.

I should go into stand up. Comedy timing :D.

Carrick has been a fantastic player for us. Like so many greats before him his time is surely up. Although If he can roll back the years until the end of the season then we could have a great finish ahead of us.

Very attacking team for an away leg. So much for Mourinho being a defensive manager.

Find it strange that Carrick is starting against their youthful and mobile midfield.

Herrera would have been a perfect counter, Carrick not so much.

He was doing with Chelsea in the first season with them ( second period ) . Continuous rotating between Torres , Ba , Eto' . Schurrle , Salah and Wilian . The next season he fixed a constant starting XI all the season .

He tends to do this in his first season to get a look at each player's performance and decide his formation and what players will remain with him .

Fully expect a constant starting XI next season .
Yeah me to, but I'm sure we will se some new players filling those permanent spots. If we had this exact same squad next season I don't think he would be any wiser as for who to play. Too many aren't United quality at the moment. Especially in midfield and attack. At CB I believe we have enough quality to be able to have two of them forming a real partnership. Bailly has to be one for sure and I think Rojo will be his partner.

To an outsider it looks very much like he fancies his chances if snuffing out the opposition and stealing an away goal or 2.

Bit risky but could pay big dividends and allow a rest next Thursday if it comes off.

Darmian ? He isn't good either defensively or going forward. Blind is a "safe" option at LB, OK he isn't the quickest but he is solid and reliable and passes the ball well, also wherever he plays what he lacks in speed he makes up in positioning and intelligence. He isn't really going to get forward beyond the wide left player and get crosses in, but his dead-ball delivery at free kicks and corners is useful. Would rather Blind or Shaw was playing tonight than Darmian, even Young if he was fit.
Just realised, I had Martial down to start and also come on a sub - when I thought I had picked Rashford as one of the subs - surprised I was actually allowed to do that on the Match Day page though...?
Don't see the thinking behind Herrera not playing though, would have liked him to start tonight and against Chelsea.

We'll never have the same squad I believe . He'll bring his players , spend the pre-season trying different combinations between then to see the best thing and then start the season with a constant starting XI .

I have no worries regarding next season . Let's just pass this season with best things we can get .

Carrick-Pogba is my least favourite pair. I hope they can control the game. I don't think Carrick has it in him anymore.

    Would've started Martial.

Carrick still has it in him if he has a mobile player next to him. Pogba is pretty atrocious defensively though and not great support in a midfield 2 so it could leave us open. Still we should be able to manage against this side.

I would have started Martial too.

With all the games coming up, I think we will need him. He has to have enough left to help us finnish this season.
