Statement by UEFA for people going to the final

"UEFA is shocked by last night's attack in Manchester. Our thoughts are with the victims and the families of those affected.

"There is currently no specific intelligence which might suggest that any of the UEFA Europa League final activities in Stockholm may be the target of attacks.

"UEFA has been closely working with local authorities and the Swedish FA for many months and the terrorist risk had been taken into account since the very beginning of the project. Furthermore, a number of additional security measures were implemented following the attacks in Stockholm last April.

"Due to the tight security arrangements, UEFA urges fans to arrive at the stadium as early as possible, as detailed checks will be made at the entrances, resulting in potential delays in accessing the stadium."

Can't wait for this although i have a big problem. My missus is pregnant with my third child and she is due anytime and is starting to get the pains now.

I just hope she doesn't drop tomorrow evening as i wouldn't want to miss the birth of my child.
Get someone to record the birth and don't let anyone tell you the sex, that way you retain the excitement when you watch it back after the game.

I feel, Jose should start the game aggressively, Pogba-Herrera, Miki Mata, Lingard and Rashford. Try to score an early goal or two and then think about 3 man midfield. Carrick is too old for young Ajax players to do 90+ minutes and Fellaini can be suspect for a fast moving game too.

Good post and I completely agree. I do think we will begin in this way - Jose knows it's there to be won, we aren't playing Real Madrid or Bayern.

There's a lot more riding on this game than ever before, could make or break Mourinho's reign. If we win I can see us starting to compete for the league and CL in the next few years, if we lose it's back to square one finding it even more difficult to attract top quality players.

Don't even care anymore. Will watch but all enthusiasm and anticipation has been drained.

Just 24 hours to go until the most important game in years. :nervous:

Think they'll score first and we'll be on the front foot after that. Gonna go out on a limb and say 3-2 with a Rashford 119 minute winner.

    My team would be:

    -------------Romero------------
    Valencia--Jones--Blind--Darmian
    -------Pogba---------Herrera-----
    Mkhi----------Mata--------Lingard
    -------------Rashford--------------

Would save Fellaini for later on in the game, when a yellow card won't damage his game as much, wouldn't be surprised to see him start though as a long ball option to avoid their press. Lingard has to get at least 60 minutes to have a chance to score his obligatory final goal and Martial to come on late against tired legs.

Our denfence worries me, Traore could have a field day against Darmian like most wingers do and Jones needs to make sure his usual brainfart isn't a damaging one.

Hope Herrera and Rashford have their big game shoes on. Rashford especially could have a field day against their high line as long as we play the ball on the ground and into the channels, none of that long ball to Rashford nonsense.

    Please...

Time to stand up and be counted. We've spent serious money over the years and are in a final against a team we should be beating.
These guys must not embarrass the club and fans.

That's my starting 11, but I think Smalling may get a start instead of Blind.

I think we want/need to win this game more than Ajax. Last night's atrocity will further that resolve even more.

I'm expecting that motivation to force is over the line if the team has an off night.

If we play to our potential we win anyway as we have the better team.

My concern is who will start beside Blind, Jones-Blind pairing wasn't tested before and Smalling is terrible and didn't earn me or - I think - Jose any trust.
Actually, that pairing was tested against Feyenoord at home, and we won 4-0.

    This..

I've been a Manchester United fan for over 30 years and the events of last night have numbed me for this match.

I'm not even sure it's a good idea for some of our players to start such an important match with so much of a cloud over the city they play football for. Part of me thinks it could push the team on, the other part of me worries the focus must surely have been taken away from the game.

I know in light of recent events a football match might seem insignificant, but in times like this, every little thing could possibly mean a lot. For that alone, I'll be rooting for United for the first time in my life tomorrow night. For Manchester, I hope you pull it off.

    Best of luck.

    Cheers, mate.

The amount of teams I see posted without Fellaini is strange, he is a cert to start if not injured.
It's because an extra attacking man instead of Fellaini would be a better option for some of us. Bring Fellaini later on in the second half if needed.

He was/is injured, someone told he trained apart this morning, so it's understandable people have doubts.

Ajax are vulnerable against a high pressing style of play. Fellaini doesn't suit this system as he couldn't chase a midfielder down without giving a foul away if his afro depended on it.

The teamtalk ahead of the game tomorrow night should be a fairly straight forward one for Jose. Go out there lads and bring a little bit of joy to many in what is a sad time.

    Quality post, fair play.

It's unbelievable how we let everything hinge on the outcome of a single match. Come on boys........do the job for once.

119min winner? The stress would kill me.

Have been watching some of the build up to the match on the MUTV App. They are stating that Ajax are a team that likes to press. If this is the case, I'd like to see Carrick start over Fellaini to keep some composure when they are pressing, however don't think that will be the case.

I'm nervous, as this is a very big match for us. Haven't felt like this prior to a match in some time. Great to have these type of situations again, although wish it were bigger things at stake.

    Come on United!

I remember Carrick being substituted at half-time with Liverpool at home due to their pressing, although it wasn't Fellaini who got in immediately…

Based on the training session looks like this is the team that's starting which is a bit surprising actually. Perhaps suggests we might be playing a little more open than I expected.

    Romero

    Valencia Smalling Blind Darmian

    Herrera Pogba

    Mkhitaryan Mata Lingard

    Rashford

if that's the team more than likely Mkhitaryan plays #10 and Mata on the right

This game was extremely important before, but after the events in Manchester recently it's much more than that. Go out and there and make everyone proud, show the world what Manchester is really about.

Thanks, that's very thoughtful of you but, after the whistle has been blown, I wouldn't blame you for switching allegiances! :p

It is special when the human race unites like this in the face of tragedy, though.

They press intensely. Jose will bypass that with this team:
    -----Smalling----Fellaini
    Rashford-Pogba-Herrera-Lingard
    Darmian-Blind-Carrick-Valencia
    ---------------Romero

The CB's will just hoof it up front the whole game to Smalling and Fellaininto knock down for Pogba and Herrera to play wide to Rashford and Lingard who will cross it in deep and early for Fellaini to head in.

NB: While there may be some slight differences in reality, the principles won't be far away from this.

Good thing you don't coach the team:)
