Liverpool FC - nicknamed The Reds are an English professional football club based in Liverpool, England; and were originally founded in 1892 as Everton Football Club and Athletic Grounds Company plc, before finalizing on the name Liverpool Football Club and Athletic Grounds Ltd after a dispute between the Everton FC board and John Houlding - the owner of Everton's former premise at Anfield Road. One of the most successful and storied clubs in the history of European football, Liverpool have won 18 English league titles, 5 European Cups, 7 FA Cups, and 8 League Cups, peaking in the 1970s and 1980s, first under the enigmatic Bill Shankly, and then his 'Boot Room' successors. Although Liverpool's fortunes as a domestic and European force have dwindled in the past 25 seasons, they still have a massive global support-base; and share two fierce historic rivalries - with crosstown rivals Everton FC (The Merseyside Derby); and Manchester United (who ironically rose back into consistent title-winning prominence as Liverpool declined).

    1-1

LVG to be kept on for another 18 months for not losing!

If we won today then it would've been a huge confidence boost and we would have a chance I think. As it is... it'll be very tough to win by 2 goals or more. Can't see us keeping a clean sheet, which means we need 4 most likely. Would probably go for

    De Gea
    Varela Smalling Blind Rojo
    Schneiderlin Schweinsteiger
    Lingard Herrera Martial
    Rashford

    De Gea
    Darmian...Smalling....Rojo...Jackson
    Morgan
    Herrera........Bastian
    Januzaj...................................Martial
    Depay

    Subs: Mensah, Pereira and Rashford

If you score early I'll be concerned that we might be having an off day but I believe we have enough to score a goal. I think it'll be 1-1.

Are we going to pretend that Fellaini isn't going to start. Not confident anyway. 3-1

This is the team I would play. If Lingard isnt creating chances give Valencia a try. Not a game for Mata in my opinion.

Did UEFA let him go for the elbow on Can?

We need to fecking turn this around. Players need to give it their all and get us the two goals to take it to penalties.

    De Gea
    Varela Smalling Blind BJ
    Schweinsteiger
    Herrer Schneiderlin
    Rashford Martial Lingard

Going to this game, will be an odd atmosphere I think

Yeah. Keep Mata as a sub, we need the intensity from the off, and then if needed put Mata on for his creativity. Besides, from memory he does seem to always want to make an impact when he gets subbed on, while when starting he can be too passive

This will be the worst night of the last three years.

Nobody can expect to win all the time but to lose to a mid-table team in the secondary European competition shows how much we've fallen.

I hope the lads can show a bit of fight and pride at the very least

Needless to say we need to put a big performance in, but very probably score an early goal.

Do that, and all of a sudden it's very much on

Right, so with our week's advantage who's tired out of your lot then? Who's running on fumes?

Blind seems to have played every single minute of forever. Varela looked shattered. Will the Schmidfield legs be able to handle a 7-day-rested Liverpool midfield 3?

On the plus side Lingard is back, Martial found the net again and Herrera looks dangerous but will he and Mata both play in the same team? Not enough defensive work from them in the same team.

Edit: for us I reckon we might start with Origi who runs and runs and runs really fast. Good ball control and surprisingly is actually as strong as Lukaku/Benteke. You'll see what I mean if he starts. Smalling will be busy with him but you'll need to be careful he's not one-on-oned with Blind.

We'll win 1-0 and LvG will ask why he wasn't given a standing ovation as he left the field.

We need to score 3, keep a clean sheet and we probably need to score an early, first half goal to open the game up. On current form, it sounds impossible.

We certainly can only go into the game hoping rather than with any confidence. The confident team will be them and rightly so - they have the beating of us at present.

I'm not confident but I do think there's a small chance we can take it to extra time with a 2-0 in regulation time and after that anything can happen- though our recent record in shootouts at home is abysmal. Unfortunately one goal for Liverpool puts us out and if we don't score early it means there's more chance they'll get one on the break if we're piling forward in desperation.

Well the Schmidfield should be ok. Schneidy didn't play today, and Schweiny came on late.
    Mata clearly fresh too.

But we can't be confident, 2-0 is a fair chunk to come back from with this non attacking team.
Will definitely need a big start, get an early goal and build into it.

Will it be a sellout? Am guessing it's gonna be a very tense atmosphere.

I have tickets and so am gutted the game is virtually a dead rubber.

I'm not sure we can keep a clean sheet let alone score 3 goals.

Can't work out how LVG sets up for this game or see a way for us to win it.

I have no idea how the team sets up for this either. I think we have to play them like they played us last week. Overload them, press them, don't let them have a second to breathe, but we never play that way so I highly doubt we will on Thursday. Pressing just doesn't seem to be part of LvG's style, especially not high up the pitch.

We have to hope for a severe off day from them to at least level the score.

LvG seems oblivious to the fact Blind is in need of a rest and I imagine his favorites, Lingard, Fellaini anmd Rojo will all start, but I'd like to see the below team.

More of the same performance wise. We're lucky if we score once these days, and there's no way we're keeping them out which essentially means game over anyway. I'll be optimistic and go for a 1-1.

A win against West Ham today would have brought great belief in the players and fans. I'm glad of the draw, keeps your attentions elsewhere while LvG remains. 2 cups and 4th spot still on for him to achieve.
