Club Brugge Koninklijke Voetbalvereniging, commonly referred to as just Club Brugge, and nicknamed Blauw-Zwart (Blue-Black) or FCB, is a football club based in Bruges in Belgium. The history of the club kicks off in 1891, the year that is earmarked as the founding year of the club. The first club was named Brugsche Footbal Club. In 1895, the national athletics sports union was founded, predecessor of the later national football association, under the name UBSSA (Union Belge des Sociétés de Sports Athlétiques); Brugsche FC was a founding member of the UBSSSA and as such took part in the first ever league campaign organized in Belgian football during the 1895/96 season.

One of the most decorated clubs in Belgian football, the club have been crowned Belgian league champions 15 times, second only to major rivals Anderlecht. Club Brugge has also enjoyed much European football success, reaching two European finals and two European semi-finals. Club Brugge is the only Belgian club to have played the final of the European Cup so far, losing to Liverpool in the final of the 1978 season. They also lost in the 1976 UEFA Cup Final to the same opponents. Club Brugge holds the European record number of consecutive participations in the UEFA Europa League (20), the record number of Belgian Cups (11). and the record number of Belgian Super Cups (15).

The club enjoyed their most success under legendary Austrian manager Ernst Happel as he led the club to three straight league championships from 1975/76 to 1977/78 and a Belgian Cup victory in 1976/77. Like many historic clubs, Club Brugge contests rivalries with other Belgian clubs, whether at local (Cercle Brugge) or regional level (Gent and Antwerp) or nationally competitive (Anderlecht and Standard Liège), and it shares the Jan Breydel Stadium with city rival Cercle Brugge, with whom they contest the Bruges derby.

    Romero
    Bailly - Maguire - Shaw
    AWB - Fred - Bruno - Williams
    Mata
    Greenwood - Martial

Some rotation but still a strong side.

    --------------- Romero
    Dalot -- Bailly -- Maguire -- Shaw
    ---------------Matic---Pereira
    ----Greenwood -- Mata ---James
    ------------------Igahlo

    Romero
    Dalot Bailly Maguire Shaw
    Matic Fred
    Mata Bruno Martial
    Greenwood
Just kill the tie right away. Rotate AWB, Williams, James for Dalot, back 4 with Shaw at LB and Mata coming in to control possession, and then bring Greenwood in up top. Enough solidity, work rate throughout and good creativity. Use Ighalo as a sub.

They seem to be doing well in their league but had a pretty dismal CL campaign (having to face Real and PSG will do that to you to be fair). Anyone seen much of them play?

Highly doubt Romero will be playing

Expect a similar team to tonight but with Greenwood starting

Our best, and still unrealistic, chance at a trophy. Would be so happy to see solskjaer win this. Expect fernandes to go well in Europe. Let's go 0-1

They outplayed RM for 75 minutes, they’re actually quite decent. None of the big teams had an easy ride against them.

We struggled against Anderlecht a few seasons back with arguably a stronger squad than now, what do we expect from Brugge? Do we take a score draw?

The scheduling of the Chelsea game and now this one is just stupid.

Gladly take a draw. Have watched them a few times this season a more decent side that will cause United plenty of problems.

They're actually going to a 'rough' spell as of late... Needed an injury-time winner last weekend against a team battling relegation, struggled in the semis of our Cup against a midtable team and have drawn 3 of their last 5 in the league.

I imagine they'll be well up for it though. Their CL campaign was decent enough and they played quite well in most games, especially against Real too. Their defense is coherent and tight, don't concede much goals (only 12 in 26 in the league so far and they barely concede goals at home at all). Midfield is run by an engine player (Vormer) and a creative one (Vanaken). They've some quick, shifty players up front but their finishing leaves a lot to be desired imo. If Vanaken isn't on top of his game and Vormer can't threaten from deeper positions, they'll struggle to break you down.

Their manager is a very good one, so I think they'll be well prepared but honestly if you play anywhere close to what you're capable of on a good day you should have too much for them, especially over two legs with the second one being at Old Trafford.

I'd rest DDG, Matic and Bailly for the weekend.

Particularly where Watford have had 2 weeks to prepare for their game this weekend whereas we will play our 3rd game since coming back from midseason break

We need make use of our full squad as much as possible for this game

We are lucky, the Brugge team of the last couple of weeks is incomparable to the first months of the season. The fluent football is gone and their strikers are struggling for goals. It will be a lot easier now I think. They've sold 2-3 key players in the summer too, but they managed to replace them adequately, except for Wesley (the injured Villa striker).

1st team need as many games together as possible going into the run-in. We've just come back from a break, plus it's better to take a player or two out than a whole team or even several of them.

Igahlo needs a start. I wonder if Martial moves to the left or is preserved for the league.

They'll be up for this. Would love to see some of our youth players get a run out though, especially Greenwood and Garner. Hopefully another win would be great for morale, around this place more than the squad...

I would potentially rest Matic or Fred for this one.... Martial and one of the full backs too.

Imagine resting our leading striker for an important Cup knock-out tie. A striker who just had 2 weeks rest too!

It's only the first leg... and it's only Club Brugge. I'd trust Greenwood to be just as impactful.

Very tricky game this as Club Brugge are no push over and we do need to rotate to be as fresh as possible in the league, especially with Matic and Martial.

    -----------------------Romero---------------------------------
    Dalot---------Lindelof----Maguire-------------Shaw
    ----------------------------Fred----------------------------------
    ------------------Bruno------Pereira-------------------------
    --------------------------Mata----------------------------------
    ---------Greenwood----------Ighalo---------------------

It would be fantastic if McTom and Axel were ready to also rest Maguire and Fred.

Our players have just had 2 weeks in the sun. Resting is an issue for later.

Sure but it doesn't hurt to keep them as fresh as possible; we've seen what happens with Matic when he is overplayed. Besides, Greenwood, Dalot, Pereira, Ighalo, they need games too and should be good enough to get a result in Belgium. It's a very, very busy period coming up, 5 games in 2 weeks i think.

Same side as last game I would go with. Maybe rest Williams. Momentum with same side could be good.

we need to bloody win mate. Win 3-0 first game and then rest players. Not the other way around which is a big risk.
People underestimate Brugge here I think.

I don't but i would take a draw to be fresh against Watford. We can close the tie at home. I think the team i proposed can win.

    Krepinho masterclass incoming

Thanks. It sounds as if they'll tough side to break down and won't leave much space :nervous:
