The MMA thread

Only just tuned in. Shame about TJ, and sad I missed the Kimbo fight, sounds like it was entertaining

"Apparently" his ground have had been improved ten-fold... No idea where that was

Good reception for Stout, alot of backing him for this fight

Stephens though is just punishing Stout, this place is pissed from what you can hear, just a bunch of groans and moans, a few chants but nothing of it... I watched the first few minutes AT the fight from way up here and it's very different from watching the big screen.

I'm tuning out and going down to our seats, you might just see us in Red and White tracksuits

Cool, where ye seated? Though ill prob just stop paying attention as soon as Daley-Koscheck starts.

He'll be suspended now, and rightly. He almost managed to make Koscheck look the better person, but luckily Koscheck managed to correct that afterwards. Unfortunately, Koscheck also proved the better fighter. When are these Brits going to learn TD defence? Or how about some submissions from the bottom? Anything.

That really ruined my mood. Let's hope for a Machida KO to make me happy again.

when they move to the states and train wit wrestlers full time...

dan's spending probably more time in the states than the uk these days...

after that i imagine daley might do the same as well...

Not surprising Kos took it to the ground and won a decision, expected more of Daley. Pretty shocking behavior from him at the end as well, embarrassing.

Machida vs Shogun, have big expectations for this one, great match

Delighted

First Rua-Machida fight had me pissed off going to bed. Now I don't think I can sleep cuz I'm hyper over the win :):)

Do you really think Dana will give Anderson Silva the title fight in the 205 division after his last "performance"? Not a chance in hell.

he should do because rua would make silva fight rather than fanny about... and when he fights he is something special...

I can't get my head around what an incredibly stupid thing that was to do. Hell, Dana even had some good things to say about him after the fight, calling him one of the best in the 170-division. He'd have a future in the UFC, despite getting beat, but then he went and fecked his entire career up for no good reason.

Almost makes me angry

daley vs diaz... thats got to be the next fight for him... or he could go K1?

either way it will be a big step down financially...

Daley was stupid to do what he did but it seems a bit hypocritical of Dana to cut him when he has just signed Shields after the brawl on SF.

Not only that they have only recently signed Yvel and Baroni who both have history.

I'm not defending Daley but it seems to me that Dana hasn't really thought it through and responded in the heat of the moment by cutting him. I think a suspension and fine would have been enough.

he had to apologise after his last fight... taunting a ko'd opponent.. so i think he was on thin ice anyway... add into the mix that they are trying to get sanctioned in toronto they didnt need anythng like this happening...

i also hear that dana and daley pretty much had a row in / just outside the octogan... was not shown on telly but perhaps anderson serl can confirm that?...

all in all I dont see him making a comeback any time soon... i think all the tito shit with dana shows that you can never say never...

Dana says here (2:43ish) that Daley said he didn't here the bell and that he shrugged his shoulders when he asked if he wanted to fight in the UFC again.

Daley acted like a prick but I still think it was an over reaction from Dana. I think Dana should have taken a couple of days for himself and Daley to cool off and then see if he is prepared to apologize, if not then cut him.

I think Dana's got it right with Daley. Sucker punching someone is well out of bounds. If he's willing to cut Anderson Silva for his antics during his last fight (see the Jim Rome interview a couple of pages back), then surely this would qualify as well - especially after the flippant response Daley gave him after the fight.

well even though im biased and dissapointe I have to say I can completly see where Dana is coming from...

Im sure Id be saying kos should have been booted out if the situation had been reversed...

I don't think Dana overreacted at all. You do not punch someone after the fight is obviously over. There is no way he didn't hear the bell, or know the fight was over. He talked a lot of trash, but he couldn't back it up, and obviously Koscheck got to him more than he got to Koscheck.

Welcom to the Rua era

I remember people saying lyoto would reign at 205... but Rua is now king of the hill...

and imo he could be destined to stay there for a while...

at only 28 years old and with a record of 19-4 he looks a worthy champion...

However a quick look in more depth at his record shows what a great fighter he is...

firstly the losses... well one of them was to macheda and like most people i dont think that was realy a loss...

his loss to forrest came after having never trained in a cage... still a loss but it puts a bit of perspective on it...

coleman broke his arm ironically enough at pride unbreakable (a defeat he since got even with)

and babalu choked him out back in 2003...

his victories include overturning his losses against coleman and macheda, two victories against overeem, wins over jackson and noguera, randalman and liddel... pretty impressive stuff!

he holds victories over most of the ufc's top 205lbs division... forrest and evans being notable exceptions... rematches against macheda, jackson or noguera remain possibilities and there is the rising star of jones and fading? star of anderson silva... but he has a real chance of being a great champion imo...

a champion younger than gsp who brings aggressive fighting (and who if they bring back the kicks to the downed opponent actually gets his best tool back as well!!!)... my mrs assures me he is rather a good looking chappie as well... plus similar to gsp he always comes over as a nice bloke... for example stopping when lyoto was sparked without having to have the ref drag him off...

must be up there in the pound for pound rankings as well now...

fedor, silva, gsp possibly a little ahead of him penn and aldo... but imo one of the top 5 fighters in the world right now and he has the potential to top that list as fedor and silva get older and gsp seems to run out of credible opponents...

welcom to the rua era... its gonna be fanfecking tastic for people who like aggressive fights

Well he's bound to stay there for a bit if he's going to go up against the likes of Rashad or Rampage.

your mma top tem pound for pound

What say you all?

for me id go

1. Silva (sill the best IMO)
2. GSP (needs a fight against silva or a shields to move up to no1)
3. Fedor (needs a credible opponent and quickly)
4. Rua (see above)
5. Aldo (future 135, 145 and 155lbs champion???)
6. Penn (1 defeat does not make him a bad fighter)
7. Shields (hes a ww now fighting lhs's at mw and hes not lost since 2004)
8. Macheda (again 1 loss does not make him a bad fighter)
9. Edgar (won against pen and looks like his natural weight class would be 145)
10. Dos Santos (might surprise some people to see me put him that high but this kid weighs in at 235 against people who cut to 265... he could be giving away 50lbs in his fights yet he still sparks people out in the 1st round... im very impressed with him especially considering the weight he gives away)

what about the rest of you???

I'm a BIG Shogun fan. In his injury days I had to put up with people bitchin

"Hes not the same fighter in a cage"
"Another Pride legend faltering"

I'm delighted to be able to shove it back in their faces :) his injury days are behind him and we are seeing the best(albeit restricted) Mauricio

:D

Thats a good list and mine would be similar, except I would have Machida at 5 and put in Velsquez instead of JDS, so:

1. Silva
2. GSP
3. Fedor
4. Rua
5. Machida
6. Penn
7. Aldo
8. Velasquez
9. Shields
10. Edgar

Landed ages ago but spent the day with my mom... Unreal experience, the energy there during the last 2 fights was electric, and Shogun finishing the job capped what was a mostly dissapointing night for the crowd with a glimmer of hope and a smile.

My P4P

1. Anderson Silva
2. Georges St-Pierre
3. Fedor Emelianenko
4. Shogun
5. Frankie Edgar
6. Jon Fitch
7. Machida
8. Jose Aldo
9. Jake Shields
10. BJ Penn

what about the rest of you???

Silva is 3 for me. His division is a wasteland.

Fedor is number 1, because he has destroyed everyone he has fought recently. If Rogers was in the UFC he'd be hyped just like Dos Santos, Carwin and company.

UFC apologists are predictable. This is how it works.

Circa 2005,

Apologists "Tim Sylvia will destroy Fedor if they fight." Fedor crushes Sylvia. "Sylvia was shit."
Apologists "Arlovski will destroy Fedor if they fight." Fedor crushes Arlovski.
"Arlovski was shit."
Now it is the current crop of UFC heavy weights. My prediction is that they will float around in the UFC beating on each other looking like world beaters until someone exposes them. The UFC will dump them over money issues. Fedor will fight them and gobble them up (provided he isn't too old and slipping) Then the UFC retards will forget all about the last two years in which they swore up and down that the UFC heavy brigade would mop the floor with him. Instead they will point to the NEW batch of UFC heavy weights and say "No no no, Carwin was shit, soandso HE IS THE REAL ONE!"
