The MMA thread

No idea. I'm going to go ahead and post without spoilers. If they haven't seen it, they have no business being in the thread anyway.

This is from the twitter account of someone who was at the post-event press conference, or something. Dana is not happy.

iF YOU'RE that talented, be mike tyson. go in there and finish -- DW.

I'm so blown away and disgusted and saddened. -- DW

dw: this one took the cake - when asked if this was more embarrassing than 97

Someone asked dana if Silva has a future in the UFC, he said yes. Sorry @chaddukes

DW - I don't want to see GSP vs. Silva after tonight. Silva might be the first champion fighting on a prelim. I don't want to see that sh*t

DW -- I wouldnt come here if I was (anderson)

dw -- I guarantee you, I will make it up to the fans

I thought the first 3 rounds were hilarious, but I dont get why he started running around afterwards. Still Silva is the man, and I honestly dont think there is anyone in the UFC who can beat him

feck, forgot about 112 completely :(

Strangely appearing on my PC now though

Silva vs Maia was fecking nauseating. Silva's like the Thierry Henry of MMA. Would love to see him get him ass handed to him, perhaps if he dropped down to fight GSP although apparently White's saying he doesn't deserve to fight GSP after that performance. Felt terrible for Maia

Silva acted like a complete cock last night and looked like a retard when he couldn't finish. He was gassed after two and a half rounds, and considering he did feck all except mess before that then I can't see how he was so knackered. Maybe it was the humidity from fighting outdoors but I would have assumed indoors would be worse.

If he fights like that against GSP, he'll be murdered.

Still, he's a great fighter, and he'll learn from this.

Agreed. Does he not realise by behaving like that he's actually making himself look bad?

If you showboat to the extent where you are basically saying that your opponent has no business being in the ring with you and then you can't finish the fight what does that say about you?

Thanks for the spoilers about TUF lads. Appreciated.

So I'm gonna bring my stats geekery to the UFc. Did anyone hear them saying that BJ Penn has not been taken down once in 6 years? Is that true? Did GSP not take him down?

If that is true, bearing in mind who he's fought in the last few years, it's an absolutely amazing statistic.

That stat applied to his fights in LW. He fought GSP at WW. He was unbeaten at 155 lbs in 8 years

what beardsleybob said, but yeah even without GSP, great statistic.

Watching UFC on Channel 5 at the moment, it's simply amazing. In no other sport can you get away with pounding an unconscious guy in the back of the head!

Technically you cannot punch somebody in the back of the head. Are you sure you are watching UFC and not some other MMA promotion?

Probably has the guys back and is just swinging for his temple

I'd often get comments about that from people that don't watch mma

So Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen at UFC 117. As I said after the Maia fight, I'd love to see Silva get a beating but not convinced Sonnen is the man to do it. If he forces Silva to take him seriously in the Octagon it'd make for a good fight but I wouldn't be optimistic about Sonnen taking the victory.

But I think Sonnen's a brilliant guy and I've enjoyed his trash talk the last few days. It'd be the sweetest upset if he came out on top of this one.

Does anyone know if strikeforce is going to be aired live on uk tv tonight?

Sonnen's a funny fecker and a great wrestler. I'd love him to ground and pound the shit out of Silva. I do think he'll take him down but I can see Silva submitting him, much like the Dan Henderson fight.

Yeah it's a good lineup for Strikeforce tonight, I like Aoki as well. King Mo vs Mousasi is the standout

Miller is such a twat. He really didn't get punched enough in tht brawl. fecking funny though. The bloke at the end was like "guys we're on national television!"

Surprised Mousasi lost and Aoki was shit apparently.

Apparently both pretty lousy too, Aoki needs his tight shorts.

Very disappointed with last night's fights. Aoki's performance was embarrassing. No stand up skills whatsoever, and his takedown attempts basically amounted to falling down in front of Melendez and hoping for the best. The Mousasi fight was interesting for the first two rounds and he did some damage off his back, but he just wasn't strong enough to stop Mo's takedowns. Gutted at Henderson getting dominated by Shields. Hendo looked ancient, and his back injury must have took its toll on his mobility. He would have battered Shields around the ring if he was 5 years younger. Sad to see.

That end of fight - eh, fight - was fun though. If not for the fact that this might turn people off MMA as a whole, Dana would be laughing his ass off. Then again, the UFC PR-guys have made such a good job on practically making UFC it's own sport in most peoples eyes, that it might not have made any damage at all.

What did he do that was so bad, though? Alright, perhaps he shouldn't have been there, but it has happened time and time again in the UFC that someone's expected future opponent has shown up in the cage after the fight. All he said was something like "when's my rematch, buddy?". Shields was smiling, before someone shoved Miller, at which point Shields shoved him hard. Apparently he threw the first punch as well. At one point Miller was being held back by about half a dozen guys from Shields' corner while some of them were happily kicking him.

Apparently Nate and Nick Diaz were involved. Surprised?

to the part-time ignorant fans it won't make a difference

Yeah the Diaz's were heavily to blame as well. But Miller knew what he was doing, and if I saw that incredibly twatish face interupting my post match interview after I'd successfully defended my belt, I'd lay him out as well.

Big a wanker as Miller is, I thought the Cesar Gracie camp came out looking like way bigger cnuts. Miller didn't take much of a beating despite having 6 or so guys pounding on him and was joking about the whole thing afterwards. Meanwhile the Diaz brothers etc... where rushing to the net to brag about the ass kicking they just dished out like Miller was on the verge of death or something. Typical behaviour from the Diaz brothers, but it's a shame the likes of Shields stooped to their level.

I only watched Strikeforce last night and I had no idea what the results were.

I was extremely disappointed. Henderson was particularly disappointing. He seemed to be gassed after the first 4 minutes. He really looked finished, against someone who in my honest opinion is a very average fighter.

i think shields is a very very good fighter... but a better ww than mw...

hhe isn TUF as well and his contract is expired with strikeforce either now or after his next fight I think...

possibly sign for the ufc and fight GSP?

He was at WEC last night sitting beside Dana, who mouthed the words "he mine"

good signing for them...

i see him more as a ww but he could be in the mix in either division...

not lost at ww since 2002... and not lost at all since 2004...

if dana has got him I'd like to see shields vs gsp... it would also give time for the daley vs kos and fitch vs alves situations to play out as well helping pick the next challenger

I think GSP would murder him.

It could be the ultimate dry-humpathon, and GSP would be the favourite, but Shields would be an interesting challenge for him at least. Besides A. Silva going down to fight him.

I **** its too much of a cut for silva... he would be fecked in later rounds... though i suppose that might make him try and end it quickly?
