Television The Last of Us - TV Series HBO | NO GAME REFERENCES OR SPOILERS | Receives 24 Emmy nominations

I just hope we get another game and it doesn’t get neglected due to the show. 1 was a landmark game for narrative based video games - I’m currently playing the remake - and 2 for me while also very good narratively was slightly inferior in that regard but has arguably the best stealth action gameplay mechanics till date.

The show was good but as someone who loves the games and also the medium of gaming, for me its more a lesser (but still very good) version of it.

So, is this show a paint-by-numbers retelling of the game?

Sometimes, but also the best episode of the last season had almost nothing to do with it at all. It goes on tangents and elaborates on some things, but the general plot is identical yeah

It follows the overall story and doesn't leave out any of the most iconic shots/scenes/lines, whilst also adding additional content and single-episode characters to flesh parts out.

Basically they managed to stay very faithful to the game while making it its own thing.

It's well worth watching.

Getting rave reviews
Not surprised at all.

Don't know when they'll stop, don't know how theyll tackle the "format" of the story, but be ready to feel every emotion in your body and then some if theyre doing the game justice.

So will season 3 be an original tale or does this one just cover half the game?

Yeah you kinda get an inkling what the s2 finale cliffhanger might be

I wonder if I'm gonna like this more than season 1. Read a review that season 2 suffers because there's less of Joel and Ellie together but I didn't find either Pedro or Bella too great as their characters and I thought the chemistry was so so. So maybe that means I'll enjoy it more if we're more focussed on other characters and relationships.

Spoilering that for you, because reviews talk about things not aired.

Major spoilers:
You thinking when abi finds them in the theatre? Because I genuinely think Joel will be a gonner somewhere between episode 1-3. Should be 1 really if we're following the same format as the game.
It always happens. The one constant in Caf.

I still have to finish the second game. I'll probably start over.

Not spoilers, but discusses my feelings re. the second game so I'll spoiler it anyway

I do like the second game but it's definitely a weaker and far, far more grim story than the first, and a bit convoluted and top heavy, so if they really are following all the major plot points to a tee and only covering half of it, I do anticipate I'll be a bit disappointed in this season. Joel and Ellie were the best part about the first game, and show, too, and they both turn into pretty crappy characters (in different ways) in the second game. I also think Bella Ramsey was perfect for a 14 year old Ellie but not sure if she has the chops for this version of Ellie, I guess we'll see.

Still, expecting it to be top-tier TV anyway, and looking forward to how they tackle some of the more memorable scenes

Just saw its only 7 episodes? How tf are they going to fit the story into 2 seasons with just 7 eps each? Like a lot happens in the games story. Like 2 full 10 episodes worth each.

You may need to sit down for this. They're all 60 minutes or less in length, with one of them a meagre 45.

Do we know for sure that season 3 is seven episodes as well?

Is S2 definitely telling the whole story of the 2nd game, or just the first half?

Okay, just to clarify before the clusterfeck happens - game chat goes in the game thread I assume? Or is there a separate thread? There’s stuff I want talk about already based on the first episode so just want to clarify.
