this is starting to feel like building a new ballroom on the titanic, after its hit the iceberg
Agree

This project should be shelved for a decade.

There's a few things you could do to the current ground like fixing the leaks etc and getting some better beer in K Stand to improve the current matchday experience.

This is just pessimism bias. The stadium needs revamping, the funding from that will be largely from loans which will be paid off by the increased revenue.

It needs doing. Do it. Waiting for the club to start winning before you start just means it might never get done.

Maybe, but when added to the job cuts, financial restraints and on-pitch problems etc, what message does it send out to existing players and staff, prospective new players, investors, sponsors, advertisers and (esp) fans etc, if the club is just fixing up a tired old stadium for another bit, while other clubs are striding ahead with new stadia of their own?

Which delaying for another decade denies the potentially enormous extra revenues a 100k stadium should generate?

Never mind eg Real Madrid, but even the likes of Everton recognise that!

Ridiculous.

These things take a bit of time, and it’s not even been that long since the last communication. There are lots of things to bring together. There appears to be a will to move forward from the owners, local and wider government - this happens rarely, and the opportunity needs to be grasped.

The only way United will be able to move forward is with a new stadium or completely refurbished OT.

This is a crazy post. The stadium project will probably take a decade to complete, why you would want to delay that I don’t know.

I’m sure the club are working towards having a team fit for a shiny new stadium long before it is built, especially if we want to be winning the league in 3 years time.

We can't afford to give staff a free lunch ffs.

No serious money should be sent on planning/building a ground until we have got our shit together.

Spurs and Arsenal curbed spending after their new grounds were built. We always tightened purse strings after stadium expansion. Sadly we're not in a position of strength anymore so a new stadium could set us back even more.

Revenue is always going to be limited having the stadium in a provincial dump like Salford and a parochial name like “ Manchester” .

The new stadium should be a greenfield site near the M4 corridor and the club should be renamed “Elite Glory Super Devils” (obviously going to have to workshop this with focus groups in key markets)

Did this sound funny in your head?

The whole thing should be shelved until the finances are sorted out.

We don’t have the luxury of a sugar daddy that will just stomach the cost.

The £2 billion cost will just be more debt placed on the club at a time where we are barely keeping our heads above water.

Bore off mate.

Hope we get to see images of the architectural renderings tomorrow, probably one of the most exciting things of the whole project.

Is there a reason you say tomorrow?

Please let us have this I really hope it’s an amazing stadium

Not sure I could deal with a new stadium that looks shite with he everything else going on

No, just adding things up. A major announcement likely confirming a new build 100k seater stadium and other details usually come with hero images of project and also a bit of wishful thinking from my side.

Project Disneyland confirmed then.

Can't wait for Gails bakery in Salford Quays and not being able to afford more than two games a season.

Probably get a light show and occasional Sabrina Carpenter concerts.

But is there any chance there's an announcement on a stadium or anything soon?

If we get a soulless modern bowl stadium I'm going to be absolutely fuming.

I would hope new trafford takes a lot of inspiration from old trafford. Basically just make it look the same but bigger.

You know we’re at an all time low when barely literate Palace fans feel empowered to log on and have a go. I wonder how long you need to feel like this supporting a team before losing such sense of shame?

Yep. I'm absolutely dreading all of this.

We're gonna see another massive price hike to help pay for the thing.

I reckon Ratcliffe and the Glazers will sell up. There's no way Jim thought it'd be this difficult. I don't think he gets football at all. As for the stadium, we'll end up sticking a tier on the South Stand.

Works for me.

He did actually quip about selling to Qatar

Thanks, sounds exciting.
Not sure that's possible when he clearly stated that a new build is entirely dependent upon a government regeneration programme. Given the pace at which Labour operate I'd he surprised if this decision is done.

He's clearly going to buy the Glazers out at the point their deal allows him to, which is in the next two years.

Why would he be getting grilled in front of a massive audience if his plan was to leave?

Why would he pay for and present these stadium plans if he wants to just increase the South Stand, which would not come close to realising the revenue potential of Old Trafford?

Apologies if I'm replying to a sarcastic post.

Maybe he's gonna do a midnight flit with the prawn sandwiches.
It was his plan all along.

I agree. Once OT is gone it's gone forever, and we'll no longer have a football ground but a multi-purpose arena. Ticket prices will balloon. I hope people enjoy their enhanced legroom.
