Miscellaneous Reserve/Youth News

That's true for almost every top player in England, so many clubs sniffing around. To keep hold of your top talent is probably one of the hardest things right now.

Yeah can imagine with Ineos they probably aren't very flexible with the financial inducements associated with City's academy

Hate to lose a talented player but if at 14 you’re using social media to stir it up I’m afraid United might not be the club for you. I also wonder if this has happened because he hasn’t gotten game time with the U18s. Again it’s somewhat unreasonable to expect that at his age, if that is the reason. Anyway good riddance.
I would like to agree with that. It doesn't seem right when a 14-year-old is active on social media these days.

That’s only natural but there are different ways to use that. My interpretation is that he acts a bit entitled.

Is that his management agency? cringe post. Infact both posts sound a bit entitled, but it's his life he is free to do what he likes. Something always seemed a bit off with him/his management, always too much noise for a kid so young.

That’s his dad. Also wouldn’t be surprised if the post from JJ is him too as he also partially manages his account I believe.

Looks like JJ Gabriel is leaving. Has deleted any United-related posts as well.
I'm not surprised. In recent weeks/months, he has shown on social media that he has been present at various City games.

He looks a talented player, but I don't like the vibes I'm getting from him. The whole 'look at me' attitude. Maybe I'm just getting old.

Sad to see that, but talents will come and go. If his dad is such a problem now, would be a nightmare when he is older.

Saw a twitter account put him as one of the top talents of the academy when he is 14, and when he got criticized in the replies, said his dad had approved putting his name there.

Made no sense considering there is a long way to go. Saw plenty of stars at academy level flop at the top for various reasons. Don't think his dad is helping with that type of attitude.

Although it’s driven by the current extreme circumstances, hopefully the sight of Chido and others getting bench/game time now and over the next couple of months will have some kind of sway. Nathan Salt, who has been increasingly covering academy developments at United in the United Confidential column, has done a piece today outlining the battle to keep him. He’s clearly researched the story and doesn’t make reference to a final decision.

He wouldn't be able to move to Spain for another couple of years, unless the family could prove they were moving for non-footballing reasons. More likely he ends up at City unfortunately.

It says he has an Irish visa so can move.

Irish passport, not visa. And he still would have to wait two years until he turns 16.

I’m not sure though if the fact his dad dropped his Irish name and just came up with the name Gabriel for marketing reasons is hilarious or offensive.

Yeah I saw that. Not sure whether accurate or not, but think it was because the account put Bassirou Nkoto top of the list and apparently his dad didn't like it and mentioned the twins aren't even 14...

Is that true? I just assumed the parents were split up and that that was her name? I knew the Dad was on Arsenal's books and played League of Ireland.

This list was mostly filled with our current crop of u18s and u21s, and then there was only this one 14 year old which was odd. But he said that it was approved by his parent.

It felt artificial, like there was an attempt to create hype around a kid who still is a ways away. At least wait till he starts playing in the u18s before hyping him up, because a lot can change before you have even played at pro level.

If you like to gamble, I tell you, I'm your man. You win some, lose some - it's all the same to me. The pleasure is to play, makes no difference what you say.

Seems to be a very public show of annoyance from them for lack of progress to the u18s, lots of news being pushed recently. A final decision to stay or leave doesn't seem to have been made yet.

Suppose bringing him to watch Max Dowman, who is a comparable talent and made his u18s debut younger than JJ Gabriel is now might have been a wind up

Arsenal as of late have been pushing their best talents crazy quickly up the tiers, maybe as a way to stop other clubs from poaching (mixed success hehe).

Looking back at it now, I think him getting an U18s debut wouldn't be the craziest thing in the world, seeing as he is being touted as probably the best in the world in his age group. The last talent we really pushed early was Shoretire who at the time was the youngest UYL debutant I think, which might have led to United being a bit more conservative.

Have we actually lost or poached any super talents from that age group more recently (13/14 U.K.?) I can't remember anyone leaving here going on to be a major success?

Giggs from City is the only major one I can think of in my lifetime that anybody would be kicking themselves over. Palmer is supposedly a Utd fan but was with city the whole time I think?

I’ve seen this kid labelled wonder kid (never good)now he’s apparently demanding playing up in u18 (oh dear) and spitting his dummy out on socials (red flag). If that’s true let him leave, that kind of petulance rarely ends well for players.

Coaches take closer look at Ilunga

United coaches wanted to take a closer look at U15 centre-back Glen Ilunga and so the youngster has spent the last week on trial.

Despite big successes for the U16 and U18 teams, United are constantly seeking talent to bolster their ranks and Ilunga caught the eye after some recent performances at Manchester-based AR Elite Academy.

Slightly younger but we lost James McAtee at U12s because we released his older brother, John, and the family weren't pleased about it. Noah Ohio another one that went to City & was very highly thought of.

Also lost Kieran Morrison at U14s to Liverpool. He's a really good player, but I'm not sure how highly rated he was back then.

We lost a few and we have nicked a few back - it will always be like that.

He played for our U16s against Boro on Monday so certainly not "gone" yet. Unnecessary drama at this point.

Tbf the drama has been created by his and agency Instagram posts only.

I doubt that but even if it was true, Dowman was playing against our 18 year olds and holding off 2 at a time as he went past them. His strength and balance allows him to play and go past players when hes younger
