Gaming Football Manager 2024

It is, I kind of started doing saves to get achievements/do fun things like pyramid challenges or build a nation or something just to make it interesting.
Same and even challenges like those are more about time you can put in as opposed to any kind of skill at the game.

May do this at some point

I think even with this, you would need to handicap yourself. Maybe saying that you need to start 5 homegrown players at all times, something like that.

But even then, I hate those kind of saves because I am winning less than I would if I just played normally.

Starting with any PL club, a title is probably coming after 3-4 seasons.

Yeah. Far too much money in the league. Better off doing the same challenge but in another league.

Saw a few posts with United getting relegated quite early on in this version, so thought I'd sim to the future and wait for them to get truly shit before taking over and rebuilding.

Doing it a few months at a time to check progress (as I also don't want them to be too good). Ten Hag got binned in the November of the 2023/24 season. Zidane was hired as his replacement and won the League Cup. Currently coming to the end of 2029 and his job is now "insecure" as United sit mid-table, they also haven't won another trophy.

I think City have won the league every year.

Klopp left Liverpool and went straight to Real Madrid, who then beat Liverpool in the CL final of his first season. Zidane managed to reach the final with United the season after but lost to Madrid (making it another three in a row for them, as they beat City in the 2023/24 season). Stopped checking after that as United have been knocked out really early, if they've qualified at all.

I'll probably make a save point when Zidane gets sacked, but keep simming to see if it gets worse.

Doing a save with United and trying out a 3-4-3 and I decided to make Granacho my RWB and he's currently the best player in the league after 10 games

So I'm at my last club in mine and a friends pentagon challenge.
Super far ahead when it comes to the continental trophies. (4-2)

My path:
5 seasons at Nanjing then won the cup
2 seasons at Supersport in South Africa before winning the cup
2 seasons at Tigres before winning
2 seasons at Palmeiras before winning
Took me a season to find a job. Was really wanting United but their manager (Marcelinho), kept hanging on by a thread. Didn't want another Prem side, even though Arsenal and Newcastle became available. Other clubs I could have got but didn't want to manager were AC Milan, Roma and Juve. Finally took over Leipzig about half way through their seasons. 4 games left to try and earn a CL spot this year, but I think unlikely.

Friends path:
Sacked at Gungzao (impossible job to be fair  )
Won the league with Halifax wonderers
Left for Gil vicente (At the time I could not believe he got such a good job for the standard, spent two seasons with them.
Got offered a job in the Eredevisie, but decided to go to South Africa
Won their cup in his second season (same year I won in Asia)
He crossed over to Urawa red dragons and won their cup in two years (At this point we're level in the challenge)
When I went to Mexico, he decided MLS was the best option as all the clubs were rich. This is where it all went down hill. (transfer rules etc made it an impossible task)
In the second season, I beat him in the continental cup quarters, and he quickly realised America wasn't gonna happen.
Made the shock move to Brighton, had a decent season then moved to Spurs.
He's currently in his second season right now, in the semi's of the Champions league and probably going to win it at this point. Had some huge luck in the knockouts so far, but finding form at the right time.

This looks like great fun to have on the go.

I have gone back to NLTL save and started with no badges and no experience. Picked up by Olympic Charleroi in Belgium and they won’t give me a course, so don’t know how long I can stay there.

Also, is it just me, or is the morale system and dynamics even more sensitive since their last update? My team nearly went to pieces after one heavy defeat against the run of play!

It's been more fun than expected to be honest.
I normally like to take over a team and build there. Chopping and changes has never really been my thing.
I guess I was super lucky at Nanjing. I got taken over by an Australian who pumped a bit of money into the club which got me through my badges at a quick rate. If it wasn't for that guy I don't think I'd have done it at Nanjing

What about the game time, does it tick along nicely even with so many leagues running?

Yeah it moves fine for us.
I have every league of every country loaded and playable with a custom database which is bigger than normal.

Don’t ever see any delays in loading times

What sort of setup do you have? I haven’t ventured outside of 6-7 European leagues because I am worried it will grind to a halt on my laptop.

Due to the long wait I'm trying to find things to keep me interested in this version. Obviously I'm running the experiment but would be open to a network game or more experiment stuff if anyone has any ideas?

So I'll have to start over a new save. Lost everything from the one I had going on. I thought it was being saved to the cloud for Epic Games but it seems not. Luckily it was only 3-4 years in so not a big deal in the grand scheme.

Stemmed from Windows 24H2 causing issues which ended up BSODing my PC. The person I had repairing it saved a lot of documents but missed my FM stuff as well as my video template files. So I cannot recreate my YouTube videos without tireless effort, not worth it anyway, can just move forward. And all my FM24 stuff is gone. Just will have to forward there again.

Thinking I'll start the save over and make different moves or also create a lower league save. We'll see.

So I'm finally onboard with a proper FM game for the first time in years. The plan is to play as realistically as possible.

Started my first game with Sunday League experience, unemployed and with minimal coaching licenses.

I was immediately offered the job as manager of Gambia without any form of interview (they must be desperate). I didn't fancy my first job being international so held off and managed to secure the Dartford job in the conference south. Had interviews with Dartford and a club in Wales but Dartford looks like a nice starter.

Made a flying start to the season winning my first 5 with minimal changes to the squad. Just took an average Number 10 as a free transfer. I'm playing 4-2-3-1 and we didn't have a number 10 at the club.

The wheels then fell off. We were scoring tonnes but conceding even more. Had to go back to basics and be a bit more defensive. One fullback is now attack focused with the other being more balanced and one of the midfield two just sitting in font of the back 4.

Since the tweak, our form has been great. Finished the season 3rd with Yeovil running away with it. Just about to enter the playoffs.

Confidence is high and we don't fear anybody. Worthing finished second in the division, 3 points ahead of us on 98. They also beat us twice in the season 3-2 and 3-1 so they are the main concern. It will be Bath or Eastbourne we face in the Semis and then probably Worthing in the final.

One thing is for certain though, we need to take our chances as we have only kept 6 clean sheets in the league in 46 games.

Edit - Just checked the Prem and things look remarkably realistic. After 34 Games City have romped home, Liverpool and Arsenal the closest challengers, with Utd in 11th with just 41 points. Luton relegated on just 13 points currently. With 2 of Bournemouth, Sheff Utd and Palace making up the other relegation spots.

Trying to copy some Amorim tactics in this to see how it goes, usually didn't have any luck with 3 or 5 at the back formations but it's working well so far, dominating pretty much every game even without an overpowered squad and the pass maps look great too.

SK (d)
WCB (d) - CB (st) - WCB (d)
CWB (a) - DM (S) - DLP (S) - CWB (a)
AM (a) - AM (a)
AF (a)
Will probably try to sign Palmer to be next to Garnacho as one of the 2 attacking mids, perfect for it.

Didn't play few months and now i get "parsing error" during playing. And can't get rid of it.
Anyone having same issue? I spent all day fixing it and still nothing.

This game has basically been revealed as one of those fake steering wheels you give a toddler in the car.
The fact that this is pretty much the best training you can do along with double-intensity quickness training for everyone is just hilarious

the game wants to be in depth but it really isn't. A lot of useless features

Since we are on this topic, how can I get my players to improve their set pieces? I try and train my players in the roles that I use in my tactic and all the set piece attributes go down. They don't really increase when I put the individual training on set pieces either.

Corners, free kicks, long throws and penalty taking all go down a lot of the time. I can understand other set pieces being harder to train but surely penalty taking can be improved upon? I've seen world class newgens who have 190+ PA with 7 penalty taking and it irritates me to no end.

Yeah, there is no balance in the training, I just go for the physicals and hope for the best.

There is no balance in anything. I worked my way up from jobless and no badges and get to the Prem eventually with Sunderland, being able to sign Romero from Spurs on a free transfer. A fantastic signing and immediately our best defender and leader.

He comes in and first thing he does is complain about the “lack of depth” at LB. Half the squad supports him and I, stupidly and without thinking, promise him that we have one coming in. He comes in…no reaction. Half the squad are annoyed and morale won’t go past “quite good”

They all stay that way until January despite me trying to bring in two free transfer LBs of decent quality. Sign Josh Doig on a loan, nothing. Tearing my hair out on deadline day, signed Cucurella on a loan with no intention of playing him…finally satisfied.

All good until the run in, where he proceeds to drop a 6,5 against Arsenal, Chelsea, United, Spurs and in the cup final against Bristol City (of all teams)

I have no one else even close to his quality so I didn’t want to give up on him but I finally have and, if I stay, he is done. A successful, but incredibly frustrating, season based on nothing more than one promise.

Yea I try to avoid promises like a plague. Don't know what will satisfy them and then it destroys morale and as you've seen has a huge impact on performances.

Also annoying how the AI can sign players you wanted to sign on half the salary. Happens all the time. All these things you and I mentioned are for making the game more "challenging". Feel like SI can make the game challenging in other ways rather than resorting to bullshit like this.

It does feel like manufactured challenge. I don’t mind the morale dipping because a player is annoyed at his play time, or is going through a rough patch, but if you are going to include something like that in the game, it has to be intuitive.

Same idea with the training, it needs to be more intuitive and if you want certain players out there training set pieces as part of their routine, it should be easily identifiable how to do that.

I absolutely love the game, it’s not even close to any other game, in terms of the hours I put into it, but certain aspects are so frustrating at times.

Bloody hell, how is this for a title race.

title-Race.png

Update with two games to go. 1/4 teams can win, insane. City play both United and Liverpool as their final two games, so Arsenal probably favourites.

title-Race2.png

Villa ended up finishing 3rd

Brentford are fecking awful to play against. Struggling hard to play against them. Did a "for a fun" save to test it out cus it had been bothering me and I lost 7 out of 7 games as Chelsea (they play them early). Wtf?

Starrted playing this again, picking up a save where I was trying to see how far I could go with Merthyr Town only signing Welsh players.

Finished the first season in 2nd place in the 7th tier, the Southern League Premier South. End of season form was horrendous so no surprise we got done over 5-1 at home in the playoffs.

Time to re-arrange this squad, should have funds freed up as the wage structure at the club was stupid. They had a central defender taking up a third of the whole wage budget on £1900 a week. There was no way we could afford to renew him even if I wanted to. Managed to sell him to Barnet for £22k with a month left on his contract. Good result there.

Second highest earner is a an ancient player coach on £575 a week that got 1 game all season. He's getting released.

Just signed a striker from Bristol City on a free, he should tear up this division.

When you start playing this again it doesn't take too long to be reminded of how stupid player interactions are.

Expected to finish top half. The league table looks like this with 7 matches left so everything going great.
S8lnH9n.png

Played 13 cup ties altogether too if you include a replay, doing really well to get to the FA Cup 2nd round and FA Trophy 6th round. Knocked out 5 teams from divisions higher than us if you add them all up.

So we've played quite a lot of games and are doing very well.

All of a sudden this late in the season my players think we have a lack of depth in the squad. It's so daft.

Yeah, I think it’s hard-coded because of how important morale is in the match engine. If you are overachieving, there will either be an injury crisis or morale attack to try and slow you down.

I feel like there is most definitely fixed games (like “elastic” in Mario Kart) to keep things interesting. If I have a lead too early and play a rival, I will almost definitely lose that game to keep things interesting.

I played a bit in the last week or so. Was going to do a Conference N/S to the Prem, starting as a manager with all the badges and past playing experience of the one below international. But after holidaying to the end of the first season, I was offered the chance to manager newly relegated Luton.

Forgot how annoying little things can be. Tried to sign Lascelles, he wanted £35k and rejected my offer of £25k before settling for £12k a week or so later at St.Etiene. Martial was still available in December, wanted between £28-36k and I offered him the £28k without the extras being as high as he wanted (£15k per appearance etc) so he asked for £40k+. I wouldn't go past £30k and he ended up going to Qatar in January on a £9k a week contract .

I'm managing my real life hometown, Békéscsaba in Hungary with the aim of winning the Champions League.

A simple 4-3-3 gegenpress is stupidly overpowered: we tore through both the third and the second division at the first time of asking and finished second in the top flight twice before lifting the trophy in my fifth season. I mostly just look for free agents with great physical attributes and that works.

Ferencváros will still be a challenge. For those unfamiliar with Hungarian football (so roughly 99.99% of Europe's population), they are essentially the PSG of the league: their financial advantage is staggering and their squad is light years ahead of everyone else. In our first season in the top flight, when we still had a 100k transfer budget and a 60k wage budget, they casually dropped €11.5m on a new attacker who wasn't even signed to be a guaranteed starter...

The European competitions are the bane of my existence. In my hurry to build a powerful team, I entirely neglected the whole homegrown thing and as a result I always have to leave out a number of players from the CL/EL/ECL squads. Cue predictable and aggravating moaning from everyone while I am grovelling in front of them to make sure their grievances don't tank our entire season. But when I threaten my right-back with a public execution after getting himself sent off in the 10th minute of a Europa League last 16 match - against Ferencváros of all teams! -, I'm the bad guy.

Oh well. We're four points ahead of "we have PSG at home" with 11 games to go in the sixth season. They look set to knock us out of the EL after a frankly bizzarre campaign: we managed three points in total from Ceské Budejovice, Astana, Tirana, and Rijeka but four points from Milan and Hamburg. Make it make sense. Still, maybe we can turn a two-goal deficit around in their accursed den of a stadium. We won the last two games there, after all. Actually we'll probably get battered but eh.

Oh and I made the best deal of my FM career. Got this 18-year-old DM from Peru and a year later a host of huge clubs came in for him in January. The first offer was something below €3m; I managed to negotiate that up a bit:
- Liverpool paid €9m up front.
- They loaned him back to us until the end of NEXT season for zero, naught, nothing: they pay his wages entirely.
- We get 50% of his next sale. Not of the profit but just the actual amount. If he becomes a 60m player, we get 30m.

Well played. I've not been able to get a back three system working in FM24 so far. For me it's 4231 or 424 and that's it, nothing is as effective as those two formations.

Admittedly, it's not a tactic I made myself. I downloaded an Amorim tactic and was going to tweak it, but it's been pretty great.

I bought Yamal for the LWB
