But we hardly ever played counter attack. That's Oleball.
Ole didn't want to play a high line and progress the ball through the back. Ten hag did. I agree that the system didn't work though, because we failed to beat high presses/were nervous and poorly executing our progression up the pitch. However that does not mean the system itself was Ole ball.

We also press a lot higher than we did under Ole, by design. Calling Ole ball is a bit of a lazy interpretation.

Given the level of misery we've seen on the forum immediately after winning the FA cup, there are clearly multiple posters who are more invested in being proven right than they are in the club's success.
If that were true (which I doubt) it could well be the case for fans on both sides of the Ten Hag in/out divide.

I don't think many (if any) were miserable immediately after we won the cup last Saturday.

The issue for me with that description is that I don't know if Ten Hag wants to play a high line, we didn't do it with our best back four last season and we didn't do it this season. Also we didn't have a particular issue beating any high press, we had the 6th fastest transition in the league.

If Bruno wants another deal and improved terms (which is what is reported) I think the right choice is to sell him personally
 Without Bruno we'd be in the bottom half of the table. He's by far our best player and has been since he signed for us so wouldn't begrudge him a decent contract. He's one of the few at this club that actually deserves it.

Correct. He's only 29 too, and you can see by his style of play and the way he takes care of himself that he will probably maintain that high standard until he is 33/34. He is the heartbeat of the team. Thinking about our team without him is scary.

Hes already well payed and only signed a contract 2 years ago. He can be replaced also so he can either stay on current terms or be sold. We don’t need to be handing out a big pay rise (he is already highly paid and extending his contract beyond the age of 32 where is current one runs to)

Some of you act as if he is some irreplacable player when he isn’t. He is very good but there are also very good players out there who are younger. I am all for keeping him just not for handing him a new deal

«The prices paid for players are indeed very high - but I am not responsible for that. The club did all the negotiations, including with very good potential players who didn't come in the end.»

Wow, how awful.

Last season we didn't do it but this season we would have, had Varane and Licha plus Shaw been available more. I've got no problem with relying on squad talent but they are reverse profiles of the first choice, so we never saw the high line we were meant to progress to.

It doesn't matter anyway, it didn't happen the way it was meant to. Ten hag blames injuries, a lot of fans blame Ten Hag and I think the answer is somewhere in the middle.

Keep him on his current contract then. He has several years left - no need to give him a new one.

He really is Mr pass-the-buck. No accountability for anything and so full of excuses and weird ideas about how great Antony is and how entertaining we are.

I keep saying it, but it's so sad to see our standards and the standards of our fans in the gutter like this.

He's got 2 years left as of now. You probably don't want him going down to a year left next summer, so we could probably offer him a 1 year extension taking us through to 2027. If we can negotiate a 1+1 extension that would be ideal.

He has 2 years left and the club have an option for an additional year.

What makes you think that with the same players the team would have played a particularly high line? And before someone make that point would you say that the likes of Burns, Lascelle, Schar or Trippier are speed demons?

Claiming that Ole didn't want to play a high line or progress through the back is also a lazy interpretation.

We played higher and played out of the back more under Ole, granted our press was more of a mid press rather than a high press, but we played out the back more and our defensive line was higher.

And that was with Maguire and lindelof.

Got some names for replacements there? Any that would realistically want to join us who wouldn't cost a fortune and who can match Bruno's creative output?

In other words, he's contracted to us until he's 32, but effectively he'd be 33 by the time he played for someone else, if he saw out his contract and left.

Definitely not wage hike territory

Well it probably wouldn't be a wise business decision to give him a raise, seeing as the wages on his current deal will be 25% lower next season.

Interesting that Ole got blamed a lot for transfers (Maguire for one) for the high fees but presumably Ten Hag shouldn’t shoulder any of it.

Partly I think because he was involved in the decisions to make the philosophy at the club all British and all vibey. Maguire and AWB were suppose to be ushering in a new era of 'top mentality' English lads to build the squad around. Dan Ashworthing it.

And the first problem with doing that is the insane fees you have to pay for mediocrity

How is it any different? Just cause it's non-English players, there is no accountability?

There’s roughly between 10/15 of us that are season ticket holders with an age difference from early 20’s to mid 60’s and 100% of us all want ETH to have at least one more season. And taking to people at Wembley last week the feeling amongst the majority was the same.
Can I ask why?

I honestly don't know what the best solution is, and my opinion shifts almost daily

It's obviously no different. In fact I think ETH had way more input on our signings than Ole did.

We know the club scouted 8000 right backs and recommended AWB. We know the links from Phelan and Hull landed us Maguire. Giggs recommended Dan James. VdB was 100% a club signing, Ole just said yes.

Nothing like ETH signing 4 players he worked with and 2 he saw in the Eredivisie. He's as directly culpable for those signings as Mourinho signing Matic or Moyes signing Fellaini.

If he’s saying that he’s not responsible for negotiating the transfer fees, then what’s so controversial about that? Seems more like Daily Mail using clickbait rage as per usual.

Didn't somebody find stats that showed Ole played a higher line? Sure I saw it posted on here a month or so back.

Yeah, exactly. And Ole got a ton more blame in comparison for those failed signings (almost as if he was the one doing the negotiations); and still does.

Not a chance Eriksen was a club signing mate. Kane was never happening so I don't know how much stock put into those rumours. Plus it was reported he wanted two strikers anyway.

Why would Hojlund switch to the same agency as Ten Hag just as he's moving to United. Complete coincidence?
Why are you so sure Eriksen wasn't a club transfer?I agree Kane probably wasn't going to happen given how much we had to spend but it's been well reported he was EtH's first choice and as I said, to go from that profile of player to Hojlund doesn't make any sense from EtH's perspective.

I have done some more reading and it seems that EtH chose Hojlund out of several options including Kolo Muani and some others that were provided to him by the club. So I'm not sure if that makes him a club signing or an EtH signing. A bit of both I guess.
