I thought they’d do it ASAP so he can get of on holiday. He won’t be getting sacked this week then if that’s the case. Who in the right mind is gonna ring someone and sack them whilst on holiday rather than doing it face face?
Well as I said to @glazed I think he's known for a while what's going to happen, if he didn't then I don't think he would have gone on the holiday so quickly.

The way Ten Hag shook hands with Ratcliffe and the way he greeted the Glazers says it all.

I get a feeling that the 2 owners have contrasting opinions, but given Ratcliffe has the power for making footballing decisions, very likely he’ll not have a job here next season.

I feel he has built some chemistry with the squad, especially the younger players who have bought in to his style of play.

IMO give him another year, just because there’s a relationship that’s building here, not like we’re anyways competing next year for the league, we’ll get some much needed stability in the thought process.

I find the narrative about ONE match, and United being amateurs if they decide to keep him after ONE match and ignore the whole season is very bizarre. Winning the FA cup isn't one random knockout match this is not the super cup or community shield. There were many matches leading to this, including one of our best ever nights at Old Trafford vs Liverpool.

If we had the same exact season but yesterday was the Champions league final, and we win and he signs a new contract, is that us being a circus and INEOS being amateurs for deciding over "One" match? Baffling.

I'm not making excuses for the league performance or the UCL performance, but the FA up achievement and ten Hags success was not a random one match shootout.
If he lost yesterday what do you think the reaction would have been after a season culminating in 20 defeats? Pretty sure it would have been the sack.

so one match result does seem to make a difference for many people.

so sack or keep, I just hope the club look on it with a long term view. Is he the right man to lead us forward? If so, back him. If not, sack him

Would be insane to sack him. FA Cup is great and that but he should not get the blame for the injuries. We won last 3 games against Newcastle, Brighton and City. Guess why? We had some players back.
- FA Cup is great, but United isn't the first nor will it be the last poor team to win a cup competition
- Injuries are part and parcel of football. A manager at top level needs to be adaptable
- "He should not get blame for the injuries" is an argument against a position not taken. Though the sheer amount of injuries don't happen in a vacuum and players have reportedly voiced dissatisfaction with training methods, so he still holds some culpability here
- Our football has been awful since just prior to the league cup last year
- We've won +three games in a row this season before - winning the last three games is hardly a barometer for anything. We scrapped past Newcastle, and were largely outplayed by Brighton. Yesterday was a good win, but the underlying metrics were still poor, though to be fair, we were set-up to play in a specific manner that wouldn't translate well for said metrics

It's possible that they weren't convinced by the candidates they interviewed. I get that if they keep ETH people will jump to the conclusion that it was down to the FA cup but it's not necessarily true.
would be next to impossible to go through an interview stage with 3 or 4 managers without that information coming out

so we'll find out if that is/was the case

anyway I don't even think they will change their minds

It's small things though. If Solskjaer won the Europa league final (a match we were the better team I'd argue) does he keep his job? I think yes.

So it’s just a case of the club leaking it. That means he would have already done an interview which can’t be possible since he had no idea if he was staying after the game yesterday.

How .... is that possible?

He's the head coach, he sets the team up?

Unless I have missed some big revelation??
The point is he only wanted to win the game, not further the long term high press project.

Because he'd already been fired.

ETH was very stubborn with Antony and benched him several months later than he should have. He was and still is stubborn with McTominay.

That said, he indeed showed yesterday that with most of the players available, he could get a very decent performance (and a result).
Now imagine he abandoned the tactics he'd been using all season months ago instead of waiting until the last 3 games. Where could we have ended up?

For some reason nowadays when I think about FA Cup winners the first club that comes to mind is Wigan in 2013 who were relegated. And the thought of Wigan comes with their owner defending the idea of calling chinese people "chinks".

And more importantly finally abandonded the chaos ball that hadn't been working all season.

If it was a leak from our side it would've come from our sources, not Steinberg.

OK lets just settle for the facts then. Chelsea scored 20 goals more than us. They underperformed their xG by about 10 goals. We did not underperform our xG.

Ergo, Poch is good at coaching attacking football and ETH is not.
Ok lets just settle for the facts then. Pochetinno has spent 7 seasons in the PL and won 0 trophies. ETH has spent 2 seasons in the PL and won 2 trophies. ETH has won 7 trophies in the last 6 years and at least 1 trophy a season for the last 4 seasons.

Pochetinno has won 2 major trophies in his entire managerial career. ETH has won 7.

Let’s just keep eth. I don’t get why it is so hard to understand that you can’t win anything when half of the team is not available. It’s like racing with a f1 car without one wheel and a disfunctional engine. Even a Red Bull would look shit.
eth is right when he tells the journos that they have no clue about football management. You have to have your best players available to challenge in the pl. There are too many good teams and money around. Let’s buy a top cd for varane a fit left back and a cm who can play with mainoo and we may have a first team that can compete

Well that's because the Glazers are reactionary and made decisions based largely on how the fans were feeling. Ineos you would hope are making decisions based on data and developing a style of play.

Cause there's other teams around the league that were also hit with injuries and it didn't stop them from scoring goals, and maintaining a style of play. Do you really think SAF would have negative goal difference this season with the attack we've had available for the majority of it? Or get absolutely embarrassed on the road to bottom half sides?

A lot of our performances and results would have been prevented/mitigated with a more compact/solid midfield set-up. In fact, "b-b-but we won the last three games" thing that people are comically pointing to as reason to keep him, he did just that.

That's the big one for me. He could have played this way months ago, before Christmas. I still don't think we'd have made top four but we would have been a lot closer.

Sounds like they’ve had second thoughts about the sacking.
As they should. Definitely the match going fans want him to stay but most of the fan channels and communities want him to stay. Will be a massive call if they decide to do it.

Also guaranteed if he stays we'll win the Europa League next year

It’ll be an absolute fecking train wreck if we keep Ten Hag.
I don't think we will. They're not going to make a decision on one game and I believe the leaks about us having told him weeks ago. Think they have him the final, which is more than he could expect really, and it was a great outcome for all parties. But I agree, if they did keep him then it'll be the latest chapter in the disaster that has been the last 10 years and will be a repeat of the genius idea to give Ole the job after the PSG game.

You're not rewarding the guy who led the team to their worst league finish ever with another year. His ability to adapt his tactics during the season was pathetic. I'm pretty sure that most of the players don't want him back. I'd take Allegri or Tuchel, or even an up-and comer. ETH had his audition and he bombed.
3 finals and 2 trophies in his first two years? Some of yous are fecking weird

Its tough
The season was horrible in league and champions league and obviously ETH has made mistake and persisted with suicidal tactics and sometimes wrong in game decisions and reactions. Many negative records have been set and finishing 8th in league should never be ok for a Utd manager. But he has a high win% of games and three finals in two seasons winning two of them is not bad and hasn't been a steady thing since Ferguson so not sure what I think anymore. I think some players also need to take accountabilities and structure has not been in place to succeed as much as possible. But he has gotten many players in that he has worked with before and many haven't looked the part. Can't figure out what I'd do really. Harsh to sack after winning to trophies in two seasons but also not ideal going into season with him in last year of contract and also not sure he deserves a new one haha.

Just hope Ineos get it right and fix structure and especially transfers in and out

I think the decision has already been made. This game was not going to change that. But who knows.

He's given us two trophies in two seasons. I'd rather that in all honesty than Arsenal's two seasons of finishing second and no trophy.

Neither for nor against his departure, I'd understand either way, I do think had we had Martinez/Varane available all season we'd not be having this conversation.

It's been a depressing season, but yesterday was absolutely brilliant.

Before we won the FA Cup, I was deffo in the Ten Hag out camp. But that has changed. Winning things is everything. What would you rather? Second and Champions League or winning the FA Cup and the Europa? I'd take the latter every time.
That only makes sense in complete isolation. If we were capable of mounting a title challenge, we wouldn't worry about cups at all. They would come with time depending on form and luck, as it's the case in cup competitions. Finishing 2nd in the league would be a far, far bigger deal for us at the moment. It feels we are a million miles away from that right now. If winning really was everything, would you be happy with another season just like this? I mean, we're not winning the league so we're better off with a trophy, right?

People are hilarious on here. The lack of self awareness is unreal. “If they don’t sack him then Utd are useless” “It will be a trainwreck”. Or…hear me out…maybe if he stays it’s because the club believe him to be the best man for the job and think he can still fit into our vision. What is it about modern society where if you disagree with something it’s the biggest travesty on earth. No logic, just reactionary emotions.

I was keep, keep, keep for long time, then sack. Now Im back in the keep camp.

Not because of the win yesterday, but the interactions between himself and players.

There is a strong support for him in the dressing room.

And of course, the integration/development of Garnacho and Mainoo.
The players would probably have a good rapport with Gareth Southgate, doesn't mean we should hire him, nor would anybody want that.

Besides, I remember a time where the consensus on here was that if they players like the manager then that's a bad sign

I'll stick to what I've said all season, that these players aren't a bad bunch and aren't going to down tools under any manager. I think the problem players have largely been removed from the club and, with Ineos now in, I don't think they'll dare try to act out towards a manager as they're no longer the ones that are truly in control of the playing staff.

The way the players were interacting with him after the game made me feel like they all knew he was going and that it was a sort of goodbye. I don't know, it all looked a bit deeper than the usual celebrations.

I think it's based on the fact that he was a goner before the game. All the journalists were reporting that he was getting the sack. It wouldn't be the first time we kneejerk and abandon a plan though. What would make it worse is that we've apparently been reviewing this for weeks now, so to abandon it all after one game? It's not a good look if that is the case.
