For everyone of these there is a counter for a player who had longevity within the PL, football is not linear
There's a reason younger players are worth more, unless you think the entirety of the sports world is missing a trick.

The loser of this battle will absolutely have to pay the asking price for Lavia. They’ve told the world they have the money.

I’d love Ten Hag to come out with a similar moral high ground quote now. “110m? Pfff, you wouldn’t catch us doing that.”
I wish ETH would go for a full Klopp style comment:

Transfers like that destroy football, these sums are crazy. But well Liverpool can afford this madness but we on the other hand can‘t join that circus and have to find other ways.

Brighton have had Chelsea by the balls man. We couldn’t just admit defeat and go quietly into the night.

"The day that this is football, I'm not in a job any more, because the game is about playing together," Klopp said.

"Other clubs can go out and spend more money and collect top players. I want to do it differently.

"I would even do it differently if I could spend that money."

Klippocrite.

Surely now Chelsea know what bid it will take to sign him they could get this done quickly?

Yeah that's my fear, they know what it takes and much easier to get it done with Brighton than it is for us to convince Caicedo and agree on terms with him.

Think this is going Chelsea's way.

I still think he will end up at Chelsea.

No idea why Chelsea are so happy to throw money at virtually every player under the sun but won't meet Brighton's asking price?
Could it be Liverpool pushing Chelsea to make a deal here so they get that kid from Southampton cheaper?
Think this actually might still go Chelsea's way, actually. If they want him they know the price now and think it'll be easier to just up their bid in the meantime than it is for us to come to terms with Caicedo.

Didn't he also act quite childish when he didn't get his transfer in January? And now this shit with him perhaps only wanting Chelsea, doesn't look like he's that mature off the pitch.
You’ve got Klopp pretty much confirming he’s a Liverpool player and you guys are still suggesting he could go chelsea.

You know he'll be probably proven wrong within 18 months and that the club couldn't bear an admission like that.

What do you mean "he improves them hypothetically"? I think they don't have a DM so it's an instant improvement. If he signed for us then it would be more of "he improves us hypothetically" scenario, because Casemiro is still first choice DM. But this is a good signing for Liverpool.
I say hypothetically because he has not played for them. Even if a transfer is logical, and fits the team on paper, until the player plays and shows it on the pitch, it is all hypothetical.

The same is true for our signings, so why should anyone else be an exception.

I wonder if Liverpool could keep upping their bid until Chelsea hit 200 million then Liverpool walk away (alone?) having had zero intention of buying him at all

If somehow Chelsea end up signing him  This window has been mental, and for once we’re not involved in the sludge at all.
Because we’ve spent a billion in a decade on various amounts of dross we defo needed to reset and step back. Buying in from the PL nowadays is valueless it seems but the European market still holds plenty of good buys if we can muster a recruitment team of any level. Personally I think teams are fighting for 2nd to 4th places so the need to spend this much is debatable until Pep leaves.

I believe this. It’s about saving face and I can’t see why Brighton would turn down more money now. It’s not as if they need the player ready for the season, he’s 100 percent on the way. They’re suddenly not in a rush

I might write a book on negotiating and will use the Liverpool genius method of offering the highest possible price as my number one rule for success.

It won't be a long book mind, but I can guarantee you will win more auctiions than you lose by doing it the Liverpool way

From what I've seen Klopp explicitly mentioned that only our bid was accepted by Brighton and personal terms have not been agreed, so if Chelsea agree a fee with Brighton in the meantime (which shouldn't take long as they basically know what it takes now), it's a done deal from their side no matter where we stand on the personal negotiations.
