We should let him go. He's past his best overall and Utd should be looking for a more consistent shot-stopper now, young and upcoming.

This is one of those scenarios where we shite ourselves as fans thinking that if we let him go we've let go of a world class keeper, but in reality he would end up playing for someone like Real Betis and be abysmal. And we'd all be wondering why we didn't let him go years ago.

This is another Joe Hart storyline in the making.

It's not quite that bad! He does have the most clean sheets in the prem this season and in a team that plays a more old-fashioned style of football he can still be very good. It is a relevant comparison though - getting rid of Hart was key to Pep installing the system that he wanted to play, and it does feel that Ten Hag won't be able to do the same without a keeper that is comfortable with his feet.

He's been past his best for a few seasons now.

He's the polar opposite to what ETH wants in his keeper and his mistakes are costing us points.

If we renew him, he will want assurances of being no1 and we cannot afford that. His wages will be bonkers for a back up and he's only going to decline more.

There's never been a better time to refresh the keeper position than now.

Get rid. Be ruthless. Move forward

We need to move on. Would be fine if he stayed here as a no.2, a hedge on the new no. 1.

it’s sad that we’ll have to spend at least 50m on a keeper. The position doesn’t have a great impact on performance and results compared to a top shelf striker

The fact that he doesn’t play with his feet is secondary now. His main problem is that he isn’t a good shot stopper as he was in the past. We need Maignan or Costa, a real upgrade. After striker, GK is our most pressing issue.

He’s had the same flaws since he arrived. Which is pretty appalling in truth. A fresh start in that position would be lovely at this point. A keeper that can just do more basically.

Why does people keep saying they want him as a 2nd choice? He's expensive, why would we want an expensive shitty second choice? I want him out definetively.

I've a feeling he'll end up at Chelsea as their 2nd/3rd choice. And I think having a competant keeper at United will take this team up another level, especially our defense. De Gea, Martial and Fred gone this summer would be fantastic.

Sack the manager and start again if he’s all for this.

Pep would never.

Well if he persists with him Next season he won't last long anyway .
Well you’d think someone would tell him. People are trying to help him out here.

He clearly doesn’t respect the toxicity of this club

It's beyond belief at this point. Same decisions again and again. New manager/director whatever gets your hopes up for a few months.

I’ll be pissed if we don’t buy a goalkeeper of some form and DDG isn’t a designated No.2 or a fallback if the new GK is having a tough few games at the start.

I think and hope we’re selling Henderson, taking his £100k a week(!) wages off the list along with DDG’s cut wages and redistributing it to a goalkeeper who ETH will view as his No.1.

Now the Times are reporting we’re also considering bringing Henderson back. This sounds like another year of Calamity Dave as no.1

The crazy thing is that even if his wages get cut in half (they won't be), that he would still be among the highest paid goalkeepers in the world. He shouldn't even be on 100k. He wouldn't get 100k anywhere if he was a free agent.

We deserve every single thing that happens to us. We are stupid beyond belief. It's amazing we're going to give this clown another contract. As if 5 years haven't been enough

He's on 120k, isn't he? Don't think we'd have an easy time selling him on those wages.

Just an unacceptable decision that makes 0 sense given everything we know about ETH and his philosophies over the years. I don't get it. And if he's first choice yet again next year it could be a death knell of a mistake for the manager sadly
Starting to think EtH is not very loyal to his philosophies or the philosophies we think he follows.

Nothing about this season speaks of exciting football.

DDG won't be the #1 next season unless the new #1 has a nightmare. And it seems like he's been offered a backup goalkeeper contract.

Yep, it's one of the first really concerning pieces of business for me.

Honestly wondering which club would go for him, if we were to release him in the summer.

Adnan you have regularly Espoused the Virtues of Murtough and have also defended him quite a lot but this seems to be a major feck up from him .

If we don't bring in new no 1 in summer and De Gea starts , then Murtough's position should definitely be untenable if new ownership takes charge of United .

That's the most baffling part of the whole thing to me. If for whatever reason the club prefers to keep him, surely from a negotiations standpoint we're better off releasing him and then letting him come crawling back to us with his tail between his legs after he realizes nobody out there will give him what he wants.

My feeling is it's probably more of a 'contesting for #1' contract and we'll purchase competition for him, rather than a definite starter.

He's had since January to talk to foreign clubs. I think what you are describing is more or less what has happened.

Yes but he needs to just go.. we don’t want him to be incentivised to try harder. He doesn’t have what we currently require.

The one time that we actually get to offload a problem high-wages player without an issue, and Murtough decides to give him a new deal!?

In that case he will presumably lose out to his competition and all shall be well.

Rewarding poor performance and ineptitude. Certainly sounds like the fast track to the top.

De Gea's biggest problem has been clear for years - mentality. He's scared of physical challenges, crumbles under pressure and has made no effort to improve on his weak points in the decade he's been here.

Seems like EtH is signing his own death warrant if this is true.

he should be binned off no questions asked we keep him and we keep failure.

He's such a poor Goalkeeper now that it would make no sense to keep him even as a backup because it would be so easy to find an upgrade without spending too much.
