Another departure for Paris. Idrissa Gueye is expected at Everton tonight or tomorrow to sign a two-year contract, with an option of one year

Hold up...€90m?!

He's good but not that good. His defensive ability is as bad as Upamecano's if not worse. The only big value that he offers is his incredible ability on the ball, which makes him a more than solid left back option, kind of like Koundé on the right side.

Why the feck would you pay a nigh on world record fee for a defender 12 months in advance? That’s batshit fecking mental.
Seriously, this is akin to NBA teams throwing away lots of money on unnecessarily large contracts after the salary cap increases. I thought spending close to a world record fee on Fofana was bad enough, but this is taking it to a whole other level.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.

If they were getting him this year it would still be a huge fee - but them keeping him for 12 months on top…I just have no words

Replacement for Silva lined up maybe? He is a wonderful passer and good aerially but he is over hyped imo, especially for that fee. Scouting by English clubs needs to be better

Pretty obvious I think. We’re planning on life after Thiago Silva already. So get in early with one of the top CB talents in Europe before 5 other huge clubs chase him next summer.

That’s an insane fee, though.

If they can find a defender who can play in the middle of a back 3, then they'd be golden. As it stands, they've basically had to revamp their whole back line, unfortunately, and have spent lots of money to do so. Fofana on the right and Gvardiol on the left would be good, but they still need that anchoring, sweeping central defender to cover for both of them. That defender is very, very difficult to find nowadays and may cost more if Boehly continues to overspend on the wider defenders.

I’m not saying he isn’t a good player. They’ve spent 260m - need at least another 2 attackers - and are paying a world record fee for a defender that they won’t get for another 12 months. It’s absolutely fecking crazy. Bonkers. The EPL has jumped the fecking shark.

We will quite clearly play Koulibaly in the middle of the back 3. Gvardiol left, Fofana right.

Gvardiol has also played the middle CB in a back-3, hasn't he?

Either way Gvardiol-Koulibaly-Fofana or Koulibaly-Gvardiol-Fofana seems to be the plan for next season if this one goes over the line.

Translation:
Info RMC Sport: Wesley Fofana is a Chelsea player. The Frenchman has signed a six-year contract with the Blues. His medical visit to New York went well. The transfer to 82 million euros (bonus included) will quickly be formalized.

RMC Sport saying Fofana will be €82M bonuses included, so £70M all together. If that's true it's a lot lower than reported few days ago (£75M + add-ons).

Tier 3:

Douglas Luiz was set to sign a 3-year contract (also reported by Jason Burt), but this is no longer set in stone. Gerrard wants Douglas Luiz to stay.

Tier 1 (and why Jason Burt is Tier 3):
It is true that Atletico Madrid are thinking about Aston Villa's Douglas Luiz, as Jason Burt has revealed. But not for now. Only if he arrives FREE. The midfielder finishes his contract in June 2023.

Thanks to @Zoo in the Frenkie de Jong thread:
Chelsea before losing offered €18M (per yet) net yesterday. Tonight?

Rodgers on the Fofana sale:
There have been discussions but it is certainly not going to be the whole fee [from Fofana’s sale]. I think there’s part of that with Saint-Etienne as well, plus the situation that the club is in. [But] there will be some resources to be able to do some business.
Rodgers on the summer transfer window:
This summer has been really unfortunate for myself. I might not benefit from this year but going forward the club will, because the club is the most important. I trust the club when they say we can’t spend and bring in players, it’s obviously for the greater good of Leicester City and the model, and the sustainability of it.
