No sign that ETH rates Donny.
The hope is that we'll see some different players out there with a DM like casemiro out there, as we're fecked otherwise if these guys don't step it up
But DM is a pretty big role and your team can look like a joke if you don't have one, so i can see a lot improving.

Current contract is until 2025
So if we gave him a 5 year contract to 2027, that’s 2 extra years, plus a significant pay rise, say 50% to €15m a year, plus some tax differences, maybe €45-50m in total guaranteed wages. That’s not insignificant…

Apparently we'll offer him a four year contract with a slight increase

Guys FFS! At the start of the summer we hadn’t even heard of casemero now he’s the worlds greatest DM. He does play in a midfield with modric and kroos. With and outstanding back 4 and GK oh yes and the attack isn’t bad either.
hea not the answer for £60m if it’s £30 then spunky it. But £60? feckin madness.

Midfield generally is vital - need balance, discipline and ability. But yeah, probably DM is the key piece to get right asap.

Man if we go from McFred and Bruno to Casemiro, Fred and Eriksen we would go from a extremely weak midfield to an absolutely fantastic one.
Get Varane and Martinez behind that and Yann Sommer behind them. Suddenly we have a proper spine in the team.

Hmmm...

We'll be rinsed if even blinking in that direction so late in the window.
His contract ends next summer, right? Leicester would take a massive risk because if we come seriously Tielemans will have a very good reason to not extend.

Makes sense considering Wales doesn't get the CL.

His role at Madrid seems to be that of a Ball winner / destroyer. He immediately finds one of Kroos or Modric or anyone else in midfield after he wins the ball back. He doesnt really carry the ball forward or dictate play which would mean we need someone of that calibre beside him. Would that be eriksen ? Bruno ? VdB ? fred ?.

Imagine him winning the ball back after battling 3 players only to see Mc/Fred misplace a 5 yard pass and start a counter attack

Christ, Maldini made a ton of mistakes!
Maldini averaged just half a tackle per game. Of course he had an endless career which means that he made a lot of tackles in his life. However I think one should go deeper on what he actually said. Let me post the rest of it.

“Tackling is a [last] resort, and you will need it, but it isn’t a quality to aspire to, a definition.

“It’s hard to change because it’s so rooted in the English football culture, but I don’t understand it.”

He's right. Tackling is so unpredictable. A mistimed tackle might be avoided which means that the team would be 1 defender down at a time when it needs all hands on board,, the defender might end up fouling the player in a dangerous position and he might end up seeing red. One bad tackle is all it takes for a team to lose a key game or even to ruin a player's career. Which is why it should be seen as a last resort.

Maldini lived at a time when English CBs just loved to tackle. It was like a badge of honour for them. Till this very day there are people who would rate hard tacklers like Vidic or Terry ahead of the best CB England had since Moore aka Rio and I assure you things were worse in the 90s early 2000s

Glad all the leaks have stopped coming out of the club. No reliable tier 1 united journo has commented unless I've missed something.

But they'll set an eye-watering price stating they've not been given time to find a replacement and would rather him go in January or for free than lose out on his services now or have to pay a premium for his replacement since the next club down will be then in the same predicament stating they've not been given enough time etc. etc.

I think we've set ourselves up for a very problematic end to the window with premiums ahoy on anyone we go for, personally.

Would be hilarious if we fous out the the hard way that kroos and modric, made casemiro look a better player than he is.

How do you go from playing with two all time greats, to playing with mcfred?

Eriksen or Martinez (or a FB). It's a problem, but a better one to have than not winning the ball in the first place!

How can it be fantastic when Fred is still in there?

I don’t know, he’s still playing like he doesn’t want to stay at the club and I don’t think there’s any way he signs an extension. £30-35m would get him, I reckon. It’s either that or they massively risk not getting anything when he leaves on a free next season.

Of course I’d take him at this stage given we’re absolutely desperate. He us a top DM in my book.

But this really is peak United these days scurrying around trying to buy a new midfield with two weeks to go. John Murtough should be ashamed if he’s ultimately responsible for this area.

I genuinely can't tell if this is a wind up or genuine post, internet sure has done a number on my brain.
He's got a point, him and Varane.

Real Madrid used to be Barcelona dumb and now it seems they are sensing when players have have had their best years and best to move them on rather than give them their last fat contract.
