Cristiano Ronaldo (I stay)

And the Ronaldo fans will jump on every single positive thing he may do, no matter how small, and say they were right.

These kind of comments don't serve any purpose because regardless of the outcome we cant actually prove the alternative choices would have been better or worse. And even if there was indisputable evidence, people would still deny it or try to justify it.

He goes or stays, the club should remain the priority.
Personally it just worries me that whoever we get in will not be able to score as many goals, or as many decisive goals as Ronaldo provides.

Also impossible to prove but I strongly suspect we would have finished bottom half without Ronaldo last season.

No player is bigger than the club. Ever. feck him off. We aren't PSG who sell their soul to keep a player

That's what you need to establish. You were the one making the point that Ronaldo is bigger than Manchester United, seemingly based on number of Instagram followers.

I have already answered why I believe so above.

More people know who he is, he is more valuable to brands, he has a much bigger social media following.

He isn’t bigger than the club. He is bigger than ETH though and many in that squad will idolise him. If he doesn’t want to play the way ETH wants, openly demands we play 2 up front and believes training should be fun that completely undermines him. Add the fact he desperately wants out and this is a very predictable situation that should have been resolved weeks ago - he should never have been allowed to return to training.

I suspect we would have had a far better season without him. We had a far better season before he arrived* and who do you think was the biggest change from the previous season? A CB that was injured a lot of the season or a winger who didn't do much....

No one will ever know but the idea that without Ronaldo we would have been even worse is laughable to me. Even more so when you look at his influence on the team at the moment. Guy is a self centred prick who wouldn't care if the team he was playing for disappeared after he left as long as he could score a few more goals.

* yes I know and fully agree that 2nd place wasn't even remotely merited

Wonder what would happen if we put in a bid on deadline day. Will you guys be so sick of him that you’d reluctantly sell him to us?

If our only other option is Aubameyang I’d much rather try for Ronaldo on a 1 year deal than giving Auba multiple years at 34 years old.

We were playing much better cohesively as a team before he came.

Ah shit, seen all these new posts today in this thread and thought the Real Madrid legend had finally fvcked off, and if it’s true that the leeches are getting involved in, what is tantamount to team selection then that is MASSIVE problem for ETH..Grim!

It blows my mind that, with Ronaldo's arrival coinciding with a season where United scored the fewest goals since the godawful 2016/17 season when we basically didn't even bother to attack, people are convinced that him being there was the only thing keeping us from being a dreadful goalscoring team.

Who the feck cares how many empty headed numpties on social media follow him. He's just some egomaniac dickhead who plays football. Manchester United is an institution known around the globe, spanning decades of success and having a rich and vibrant history of nurturing great players and providing some truly memorable sporting moments. Manchester United will be relevant and remembered long after those celebrity obsessed halfwits get bored of Ronaldo and move on to fawning over the next famous person. feck them and feck him

The problem with the argument that we'd have scored more goals as a team is you'd actually be relying on the players who underperformed to have had significantly better seasons.

Would Cavani have stayed hungry and injury free? Would Martial have actually turned up? Would Rashford find anything like the form he previously showed? Would Sancho have contributed more?

In my mind the answer to all of the above is no.

I can't imagine a scenario where any member of the squad confronted Ronaldo on behalf of the fans.

Seems like PR that.
Doesn't say they did tbf. This is probably all bubbling on under the surface, which is arguably worse for team morale than if they just had it out.

We should only sell him to them if they pay a fortune. Stupid to sell to him

I'd rather he just sit at home for a whole season than go to another PL club/cave into his pathetic attitude
I would give him to Chelsea for free.

There'd be nothing reluctant about it. I think we'd sell him to just about anyone if we got a fee and his wages were covered - certainly from the manager's side anyway. I'm sure we'd let him go abroad for nothing as well if anyone was prepared to pay Ronaldo what he wants.

Different story for the Glazers though. They're only interested in the commercial side of things.

I'd wager those players would have scored more without Ronaldo in the side. Would it have been enough to make up the difference? Tough to say. The Greenwood issue did not help matters at all, obviously.

The point I'd make, though, is that for Ronaldo to work your attack has to be built around providing him goalscoring opportunities. Anybody who won't admit that Ronaldo is still very good at timing his movement and finishing is an imbecile. The issue is that he's not great at a whole lot else at this point, so he only works effectively as a poacher.

This is why I have such a problem with the argument that "Take Ronaldo out of the team and we're going to be incapable of scoring goals". In a sense it's obvious that if you build your attack around providing chances for one player to score, and then take said player out of that attack without changing your battle plan of course you're going to have problems. But it also completely ignores whether or not building your attack in such a manner is a particularly prudent idea in the first place. I would argue that it isn't.

It honestly shouldn't be a surprise if you paid close attention to his career.

This is who he's become.

But it is a shame for the United fans who idolized him or grew up idolizing him.

He's tarnished his image here.
Personally speaking, he hasn’t tarnished anything for me. I know Ronaldos personality and traits. The idea that he would be satisfied with the current situation at the club is impossible. Do not blame him one bit for forcing a move. The club is an absolute mess from top to bottom.
He’s surrounded by losers, moaners and several players who have literally no pride or respect for the club judging by the lack of effort they repeatedly put in.
Imagine going into work everyday and having to put up with the likes of Dalot, Maguire, Rashford in their current guise, it would be soul destroying.
Anyone with any drive to succeed would want to get out of such an environment as soon as possible. He isn’t a man United fan so he doesn’t have blind loyalty.
It quite clear this isn’t a money issue either, he’s clearly more than happy to take a wage cut to get out which shows you how bad it is.
