I thought so too, the Dragon looked enormous. I always found the Silmarillion a fascinating read.
It's like reading a fantasy holy bible  the creation of the world is so similar but with a mythical twist.

The latest teaser has got me so bought into this. The visuals look beyond stunning for a tv show, and now they showed more dialogue from the characters it doesnt feel as cheesy as before.

Also now in love with younger galadriel. Then again, I was in love with older galadriel... feck it, I just love galadriel in all ages

Jackson's LOTR depiction was cool nerd. We've gone past cool nerd.

Expect this to cater to a wider audience with little faithfulness to Tolkien's vision. Even Jackson screwed it up with the Hobbit when given more ambit.

Yet again, another pointless post. G has already by this point ruled over lands and people. I guess, keep throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks.
Didn't realize I was throwing it at a wall of shit. So yeah ok, if that makes you sleep better at night

I sleep just fine, mate. Thanks. Im sorry my pointing that your posts were pointless and didnt address the issue I raised. Maybe in future you should start by using your own words instead of copy pasting reddit threads as some kind of a "gotcha" moment.

In all honestly, Im utterly baffled that I have to argue that years of life = amount of experience. 3000plus years old. Ruled lands and people for a lot of that time. Took part in a rebellion, but "young and inexperienced" is an accurate description of the character at this point in her life. You can say she's youngER and LESS experienced than the Galadriel from 5000 years in the future, but you can't make out she's some young girl on a coming of age adventure.

You've done nothing but throw shit at the wall trying to excuse this description of the character. "time is experienced different", "she's supposed to look 25" etc etc. And it means nothing to the point that I made, which was talking about life experience. You can't address it, because no one can address the disconnection between years of life and years of experience. Especially when, as has been said repeatedly, that she does in fact have experience ruling land, and people and a whole bunch of other stuff.

A quick google search tells me that Elves don't hit puberty til they're fifty, aren't considered adults until they're over a hundred and can still be looked on as almost children by older elves even when they're hundreds/ thousands of years old. Similarly, dwarves apparently don't have children until they're in their 90s for some reason. Who knew?

At which point it occurs to me that if you're trying to apply real-life age-to-experience dynamics to a made up magic land full of elves, trolls, dragons, talking animals and whatnot then you're probably not getting into the spirit of things. And also that the people making the show better be prepared for everything they say to be pulled apart by a load of nerds.

I've read several interviews now and not once does she mean Galadriel is "inexperienced". Where did you read that @Norman Brownbutter . I can find a Reddit thread bitching and moaning about it but can't find any article referencing it (a poster actually pointed out that they didnt say that but was ignored). Is it something reddit made up/twisted to moan at and you've read it thinking it was legit?

Empire Magazine said:
That sense of outdoorsiness hints at a more active incarnation of Galadriel, one who, according to the actor, “still has a lot to learn” through the course of the show. “I had to find that balance between someone who has got an element of the eternal but hasn’t yet seen it all. Don’t expect the same character that you meet later on.”
This is the only quote I can find where she's talking about Galadriel and to be fair, I don't think that's overly wrong either based on what Tolkien wrote about Galadriel in the 2nd Age it seems to line up.

Plus the pivotal moment of her character in TLOR trilogy was displaying enough wisdom to turn down the offer of the ring even though she’s always been hungry for power, thus showing her continued arc of maturing even then by passing that test.

And that was…*checks notes*…well I don’t know when the hell it was but if took place long enough after this.

@RedSky I didnt read it myself, it was a YouTube video with a guy quoting excerpts from an interview with the show runner. I thought it was the vanity fair article, but it wasnt. That was the "piss and vinegar" interview. Or it might have been variety. Seems like theres been loads of them. Anyway, I can't find the video right now, it was a few months ago. But when I find it, Ill post it up for ya.

Any chance we see Melkor, Ancalagon and Ungoliant or is this show the wrong era for that?
Only in a flashback if it does occur and there will be flashbacks as they will show the Two Trees. A lot of people speculate that Galadriel in the teaser was referring to the War of Wrath so that could certainly include Melkor and Ancalagon.

The sad thing is this show isn't even being given a chance before it's even been aired by many. The hardcore Tolkien nerds have already made their minds up about it..... however I guarantee you 99% will watch every single episode. Hahahaha.

It probably won't touch Jackson's trilogy, no. If it did it would be the best thing to have ever been on TV as those films are just insanely good.

I'm looking forward to it.

Editing my own posts.
So, Planet blows up because of the firepower of 3 hataks? A dozen hataks couldn't even dent an ori ship and our 304 destroyed the same ori ship with 2-3 shots with our uber asgard beams.

Ungoliant has to be in it if they’re showing the trees and the oath of Feanor.

Keep a clean shit tomorrow, United is my final bus
Never thought I'd see an argument in a LOTR thread, so intense, that one poster finishes his post "whatever helps you sleep at night" and the oppositions opening counter is "I sleep just fine mate".

What in all things holy is worth getting so worked up about over Lord of the Rings? (I can't even be bothered to read back).

Oh goddammit there’s already more spoilers on Twitter. Unless it’s an inside joke amongst Tolkien nerds, but either way feck those guys.

Be wary of @ FellowshipFans unless you’re into that sort of thing.

I am starting to get excited about this one despite the rampant cynicism. The production values look spot on, the actors solid, up to the writers to do justice to the source material. Can only hope they have a massive upgrade there compared to the useless twats who fecked up The Wheel of Time.

Don't worry, the spoilers have been proven to be bullshit. Nobody knows who is who so I wouldn't worry. Amazon are actually being very clever with their marketing playing the mystery card with the new characters. Trying to keep this vague to not spoil. :)

Holy shit, what on earth did I just watch...

I am now convinced they are going to absolutely knock this out the park. 1000% on the hype train for this (even though I already was when they first announced it).

Also, that scene with Galadriel in the water and the tail behind surely means Ancalagon is in it???

"younger more inexperienced Galadriel" wasn't this what you quoted in your first post regarding this? Gotcha! Anyway, I might have rambled on a bit but that's the whole point I was trying to make.

From what I've seen, the hardcore Tolkien nerds have mostly been cautiously optimistic about this and more than willing to give it a chance. Its more the hardcore LOTR movie fans mixed in with this weird "i want to hate everything that's a franchise"/ "i hate everything that even appears to be a slight bit woke" crowd that seems to have made up their minds.

Yep. Vocal minority of idiots who moan about being faithful to Tolkien when what they really mean is being faithful to Jackson. Thankfully, due to the overwhelmingly positive reaction to all the new footage, they're now being rightly drowned out.

Yeah that's fair.

But why do people want the exact same thing as the films? Just go watch them back instead. I do that regularly and always enjoy them.

We live in a society sadly where everything must be instantly compared.

The worst.
