We are made to look like idiots at the minute aren't we, this could be Ramos 2.0

Do we want Barca to have another loan or not? Surely another loan means they can afford to pay off de Jong, but also could mean they can afford to keep him?
But Laporta said he wanted all wages to fall into a new cap. De Jong would be miles outside of it.

Their list is (1) he signs (another!) lowered contract/stays (2) he fecks off without much/any of the 17m (3) they sell him and have to pay a chunk to him.

With the midfielders they have, I think they'd (just) rather sell to offset some of the expense. Regardless of levers, they still have to look forward and get some cash in too.. the income from the levers will be wiped in a few years at this rate.

So, let's do a check in.

On a scale of 1-10 (10 being definitely)

Liklihood that FDJ plays for Utd next season?

Given the complications, I'm going with a 3.

This. The only way Frenkie will stay is if he accepts lower terms that are in line with Barcelona's new wage structure. He doesn't have the goodwill that the likes of Busquets and Piqué have, so there's no way that he'll be allowed to earn that extra money down the line.

He is already contractually entitled to €Xm over however many years at whatever rate per year has been agreed. It doesn't matter if that now falls outside Barca's wage structure. If he stays until the last day of his contract, FDJ can claim every single euro and sue if he doesn't get it. If his noncompliance with their wage structure has any immediate or long-term detrimental impact on Barca's finances, that is not his fault or problem. If Barca actually do need to get his wages off the books for FFP compliance or new signings or whatever, I'd be playing the waiting game just like he appears to be.

Timber obviously didn't think reuniting with ETH would be a dream come true either, did he.
Perhaps because the player has indicated that to his old coach? Or why would his old coach persist in trying to sign a player who has given a definite no?

All I’m saying is that a lot of people seem to assume that FDJ has this dream to reunite with ETH or at least that having ETH as coach gives us this huge advantage.

Fluked Champions League? We dominated at every stage of the competition. :wenger:

Smashed Juve 4-0 early on, spanked both Atleti and Real Madrid each over 2 legs, and then were clearly the better team on the day in the final against City. If that was a fluke, what was this last one for Real Madrid, the heist of the century?
Natural footballing justice :D

Or lets spin it another way seeing as its pure speculation either way:

Chelsea love de Jong and would like to bring him to Stamford Bridge, but they know he's promised Eric ten Hag that he'll join Manchester United if he does leave Barcelona, so they feel making an offer is pointless.

Thats the thing, we don't know the truth, so for all we know, what i just typed could be the absolute truth, but we will never know
Give it 24hrs and some shite source will post this exact message. Or offer you a job in the socials dept!

I think some of the lot here believe that ETH and FDJ are some best buddies that text each other what happened on a daily basis

It may be 4/8 now actually…I’ve tried to forget last season

I’m not worried about Chelsea at all. The biggest risk to this deal is him staying at Barcelona.

How much LT damage are they going to do to the club in order for some ST gain?

Although its easy to see United as a bigger side in terms of History, Tuchel isn't a stone throw away from ETH and also we're talking about a very good Chelsea side.

Chelsea are bigger than United based on the last decade and London definitely has its appeal. That's if we're completely objective without any sentiment attached to it (and FDJ will pick the best option for him based on footballing terms, where he lives etc).

I can see FDJ slotting nice into a Chelsea side especially with an aging Kante but I'd honestly prefer United to bid slightly more to just get it over with at this point than let Chelsea have a sniff.

We're talking about a player that would easily sort out Uniteds midfield with a figure we haven't had since Carrick and Scholes and he's still only 25, rather pay more and have a good midfield for 5-6 years then let Chelsea get a player that pushes them further into the top 3.

I love your sense of humour

Can't believe this thread is still going. Every time I open it, 30-40 pages have been added, with no new information at all. Just people going in circles debating the same things and pointlessly speculating over and over again. This has to be one of the saddest threads I've seen in here since.........oh....last summer?

Should be locked until there's some actual news. People are losing their lives and sanity in here.

Can the mods add a filter that converts "levers" into "Barcelona are broke wankers" in the Football Forums?

I'm tired of seeing the word.

Is that a ringing bell I can hear?! @golden_blunder

I don’t see why it is so clear that ETH would be a super magnet of attraction for de Jong. With all respect for our new manager, but de Jong left Ajax and ETH to move to the next level. Maybe we are exaggerating how attractive de Jong thinks it would be to reunite with his old coach?

Perhaps it’s because that’s what all the tier one journalists are saying?

No one is imagining it. It’s literally what has been briefed for months.

No matter how many ‘levers’ Barca activate.. they’re not going to let Frenkie stay unless he complies with their new wage structure. As it’s always been, he either takes a pay cut and stays, or he comes here
He has a 4 year contract. Barcelona can't do shit if he decides to stay, and they can't force him to take a pay cut

Well, then you might want to look at the real threat: the fact the contractions were necessary for La Liga not to fold. Barca cited this possibility as a reason for the Super League BEFORE Covid.

Champions league, London, our owners are not the Glazers (and I did mention before Boehly is VERY popular/influential with agents and endorsers). He may like the midfield partners he’d have at Chelsea? A manager with a better and more proven CV?

I still think, somehow, we are being used as leverage. Maybe he DOESNT want to come here and Barca are leveraging that as the alternative if he doesn’t accept the United transfer?

You guys have history and accumulated following over us now. But that matters less and less each year in modern sports.

A whole lot of maybes. Quite probable he likes ETH more than Boehly or Tuchel. Don’t know why you are calling Tuchel more proven than ETH, what has Tuchel achieved?

The club is going to be absolutely fecked

Selling future income so they can buy players today….madness.

Barca will most likely pay for this downstream but that's a future presidents problem I'm sure Laporta thinks that way.
