Bruno Fernandes | United not interested due to doubts over passing ability

No he is not. Literally not at all.

If you saw him play at all in both seasons at Sporting then you would know that.

So in 17/18 he played in a #10 role with William being the loan DM behind him. In 18/19 he was the point of a 3 man midfield with Wendel and Guedlj playing either side of him. Wendel was primarily in that #8 role playing box to box where as Gudelj was more so the DM of the team.

Bruno plays best and is at his best when he is behind the striker in the 10 role. Which allows him to get into the box and pick up loose balls outside the 18 yard box. His defensive tenacity and willingness to track back to help the defensive press and recover the ball could maybe fool you to assume he is an 8 but I can 100% assure you that is false.

Jesus imagine a box to box midfielder scoring 34 goals

But anyways ya just to clear it up Bruno is a #10 and that is where he is most effective.

Wendel was and is the #8 at Sporting.

The news that we may be targeting him if Eriksen was to leave makes sense then I guess.

He would be a great replacement in my opinion and would work well at Spurs.

How creative would you say he is? I know he has good assist numbers but sometimes they can be deceptive.

I know he's a great goalscorer for a midfielder, but I think with an Eriksen replacement we'd need someone who is good at knitting play together and bringing out the best in his teammates, rather than someone who is always looking for goals. We have quite a few players in that vein already, obviously more goals never hurts but I'd definitely have a preference for a more creative type of attacking midfielder.

Dybala can play as a 9 so we could line up in Ole's 4-2-3-1 formation with Dybala furthest forward and then Bruno int he middle of the three flanked by Rashford and Martial. To be honest I think Ole wants talented, fast, fluid attackers and getting Dybala and Bruno into the team together is possible if we are flexible and on't hold rigid positions on the pitch. We also have to accept that we are likely going to play in excess of 60 games and injuries will happen so we do need depth. Doubt the club will spend on both but I won't see it as a mistake if they do.
I can see that, especially given how fluid the front 3 have been all preseason.

I think the game vs Liverpool showed a decent level of his creativity but he is a very able passer and has a creative eye. I would probably say Eriksen is the better passer but Bruno is no slouch. He is very capable. He could of had more assists but his teammates are donkeys to be fair.

Decent representation of his passing ability.

You are saying he can't function as an 8? I think he can. His goals count will reduce but I think he is not defensive liability so he can function there as an attacking mid, just like KDB and Silva who play as two Cams but still do control the midfield proactively and will defend when the team needs.

Is erikson leaving?

No I never said he can’t I said to get the best out of him it would be at the #10 position.

I was also just responding to the poster who said he was “primarily an 8” which is false.

Because of his defensive tenacity and willingness to get back I think he COULD play at a good level at the #8 position but if you wanted to get the best out of him then playing him at his best position makes the most Sense.

I am no coach but if a guy just scored 34 goals playing at #10 I’m going to keep him there.

I think we could say the same about Pogba though defensively and work rate wise he is a liability many times so he is best used as a 10 too.

He certainly did well scoring 34 goals in that league, but certainly its not possible in this league as teams defend with very low block here and its not possible to score that much from that position. I think his overall abilities will be more useful in this league as an 8 than just putting him as a 10 and expecting him to repeat his performances for sporting as he did in a 10 as he is an excellent passer too from deep areas, and as he plays at a great level at 10 too is an added bonus, when team plays in that system.

Well I mean obviously I don’t think he can score 34 goal in the EPL it’s a harder league but I still think he can be an able scorer there.

It also depends on what players the club has in midfield etc. I see him as a better #10 but I think he can be an able player at 8 because of his passing like you said and his willingness to track back and press.

If this happens then Di Marzio is 'the Don' of sports journos. Di Marzio was correct on the Maguire deal being close to completion afew days ago too..
He is the Don. But yet posters always think he's shit. Its odd that he has to over prove himself everytime.

The man literally came out of no where and said Dybala Lukaku swap on. Even I laughed at the fact. Turns out he was spot on.

I'd be gutted if he goes to spurs. We need midified reinforcement. There is no one other than Pogba who can influence the game. You cannot finish top 4, forget winning the league with one class-A midfielder. Additional 2 are ideal.

Yep I feel so too, can he also function in a midfield two along aide a DM?

Good mix of playing deep and high up, he's quick thinking which is always something you need in the PL but a lot of those passes he wasn't under a lot of pressure which in the PL he will get abundance of.

That is quite an impressive array of passes. Some technical Pogba-like passes there

Awesome passing on that video. Would love it if we get him. Imagine how many assists he’d get for us. So creative

I just had a listen of the Calcioland podcast where Amoyal basically doubles down on his earlier claim.

Amoyal says that he's done some digging after being made aware of Sampdoria's sell on clause in Fernandes's transfer from Samp to SCP. He also says he's spoke to journos in Italy who are familiar with the deal and he is almost certain that Fernandes will be heading to Man Utd after the game on Sunday between SCP and SLB.

We've already spent 145m. It would still be another 65/70m mate.

I was replying to your comment about us not having the money to buy both Bruno and Dybala.? Like I said, we will be buying one and getting the other via a swap deal. (In theory)

Yes in his first season at Sporting under coach Jorge Jesus we played a 4-1-2-1-2 formation with Bruno at the point of the diamond (#10) and William Carvalho as our loan DM.

He got 16 goals and 16 assists that season.

I would be so excited to see how Pogba and Bruno would work either side of a diamond with Dybala at the tip behind Rashford and Martial.

All logic says that is unbalanced but it would be exciting nevertheless.

Like I said goal scoring isn’t the only thing he is good at. He is a quick thinker and a great passer. His teammates really let him down a lot of times last season.

Fernandes must be a top priority now that the Maguire signing is nearing completion.

Seems like Dybala is only in the equation because of the desperate need of offloading Lukaku. I don’t think that Dybala is what we need at the moment. Not to say I would object to such a deal as I feel the need of selling Lukaku is important for the way our game is evolving. We just can’t seem to get the cash for him. Dybala definitely a calculated risk. If he picks up his form, he’s easily a £100m+ player. If not, he’s exactly like the rest (Di Maria, Falcao, Sanchez).

Fernandes should be at the top of our list now though. He would make all of the difference in the final third with the transitions from midfield to attack. We have nobody at the club with his skill set baring Mata. Fernandes suiting the way we play more with his intensity however. Pace, engine and goal threat adding to what Mata lacks in.

Ed really needs to tie this one up really soon as I can see Spurs stepping up their attempts after Poch’s recent rant.

£60m is an absolute bargain for what Fernandes actually brings to the table.

I really hope we don’t make the same mistakes as we have in recent seasons (Hazard, B.Silva).

I think he's the fallback option if we can't get the Dybala deal done, the only proper CM we seem to be looking at is the inexplicable interest in Longstaff.

Bruno and Dybala don't even play in the same position. Why would they be fallbacks of each other?

As I said before I think he has everything to succeed in the EPL. Best player Sporting have had in a large amount of years.

Granted If he was to fail (he won’t I am positive) I’ll be here to take the hate and back lash :wenger:

I have had a pretty good track record with players coming from Sporting and Portugal in general on this forum so hopefully he proves me and Sporting right:drool:

It would be a huge mistake if we don't get him. At least if pogba goes, we have the perfect replacement.

It depends on the formation. If we get both and we want to get the best of them we play a diamond with Dybala up top with either Rash or Tony and Bruno in behind them.

As much as I'd like to believe this, I don't see how it can be so far advanced yet they are still talking to Spurs.

I doubt we are even interested in Bruno

Even if he were to come where will McT, Andreas and Fred play assuming Matic will be the DM

Its not happening

Yeah so still another 65/70m on top of 145m already spent.

Not happening.

Bruno and Dybala don't even play in the same position. Why would they be fallbacks of each other?

Dybala plays off the main striker in his best position, so does Bruno, look at the Sporting fan's post below, his success is as a #10, if we sign him it'll be to play in the hole behind either Martial or Rashford, same as Dybala. People thinking he can play where Pogba has been playing alongside McTominay are wrong.

I can see it cause we are sort of desperate to rebuild but for one we are going after the right players in that they all will improve us. But I’m not happy that we have not shifted anyone out. If we had got in 30-40m that’s pays for half of Bruno’s fees.

Jesus Christ  those misses. Bruno looks great to be fair.

Imagine setting up chances and having Bas Dost and Abdoulay Diaby as the guys to finish them off. Literally absolute trash.

Did you see the one where Bas dost was 1 v 1 with the keeper and he passed it to the side?
