It happens at most workplaces. You have a core of homegrown players who were raised together since they were kids, 3-4 of them are WC + a team who had seen these kids grow and would love them to bits. Then a new guy comes in threatening to take the job of one of them. Do you think they would be happy with him? Of course not. I remember information coming out stating that players (especially Keane) didn't like the fact that JSV didn't backtrack enough which is kind of silly considering that Sir Alex brought JSV precisely to change our game.

Don't take me wrong,Veron never wanted to come to OT in the first place. He literally fled Italy thinking he might get a long suspension or even worse (the false passport scandal) only to learn that most of those involved in it got away with almost nothing. If it wasn't for that he would have remained in Italy.

In my opinion JSV's mess was purely Sir Alex fault same as Tevez's mess. You don't try to repair something that isn't broken.

We've been burnt by Di Maria and Sanchez. Dybala is particularly a pacy player or a Speedy Gonzalez that would run riot on the RW. If he's been considered to play as a No. 10, I really hope not because Bruno is a much cheaper option that would fit our team chemistry a lot better. Also, getting Dybala would mean our wages would take a hit as well as he would like to be paid in the same bracket as Pogba. He's no doubt a world-class player but I just don't he's what we need at United at this point in time to improve.

The story was completely different last year. The players Jose wanted weren’t viable for a number of reasons coupled with the ongoing toxic situation Jose has created.

Maguire, Bruno and Dybala are obviously in the works. Let’s just wait and see before making wild assumptions of how much of a disaster the window has been.

I felt it was the wrong decision to sign Berbatov and lose Tevez. His industry and appetite for the game were infectious, and as we saw later at City and Juventus he had a lot more to offer.
 
In an ideal world you want players desperate to play for United and make an impact. Despite your fall in recent years there are still undoubtedly many of those players out there, would personally look elsewhere if he does seem fully committed to the cause.

We weren't burn't with Di Maria. He was our main assist man FFS. Its not his fault that LVG insisted on the most boring style of football United had ever played in the past 40 years

People, learn to think objectively. By joining us, Dybala had to give up a club in which he was adored by the fans and is called their jewel. Even now almost all Juventus fans are against this swap and is desperate for him to stay. He had also been very successful with them in the past, and he surely thinks he can replicate that again. Juventus is easily the best club in Italy, and is one of the favourites to win the CL. He had won multiple trophies with them and been to CL final with them.

Us on the other hand is a complete mess. We finished 6th last season, last won the league when SAF was still here, last been to CL final when Ronaldo was still young, our best players wanted to leave, no CL next season and not even close to challenging the league title. He is also moving to a new place where he is not guaranteed to be successful and might not be as adored by the fans as he was back in Juventus. Of fecking course he needs a few days to think about it and needs to makes sure Juventus really doesn't have him in their plans. Which world class footballer in their right mind would decide to join us immediately?

Good post, life over there is so very different to the UK. That alone requires careful consideration, never mind the myriad footballing reasons you point out. I’d rather a guy took his time to come to a decision than kneejerked his way here only to regret it.

It does not really matter.... Di Maria came to United back then because PSG couldn't buy him then and then just used us as a springboard. Same way, Dybala DOES NOT want to come here. I VEHEMENTLY discourage the board to buy players who do not want to be at United or play in the PL. That usually goes on to affect the entire team. I would be very much happy if we went into the season with Bruno and Maguire and kept Pogba.

I don't see him as a world-class player. I see him as a very talented but inconsistent footballer who struggles to impose himself on the biggest matches. I'd love to see him develop into more than that, as I really enjoy watching him play and think he has so much to his game, but currently he hasn't.

Argentinians who are more bullish tend to do well in the PL (Tevez and Aguero types). However, the ones whose main strength would be their guile tend to disappear. In my opinion, Dybala is not the kind of player who gets stuck and fights his way through challenges. He's the smooth operator type.

Then don't complain if all we sign are overrated English players for inflated fees because no world class foreign player will have us as their first choice for the near future. Also wonder why you're against someone coming here, but have no problems keeping Pogba who also might not want to be here? We should just let him go right?

I am not saying that. All I am saying is that Scholes was a WC player in his prime, who played in a team that was mostly made by players who either knew him since he was 13 or had contributed greatly in making him the player he was (Keane etc). He knew the club, his teammates and everything surrounding Manchester United inside out. Any new guy coming in to compete for his place was facing an uphill battle and hostility to change. That's natural

The new challenge was to play in a league other than the Italian league... You do realize that there's always Ligue 1, Bundesliga and more importantly La Liga which is the most exciting for any South American player.

I don't get your point. He said it about leaving united, and you said you want to keep him but aren't interested in signing players that don't want to be here. Pogba isn't South American.

Di Maria was a rat faced little pussy who never wanted to come here but couldn't get the move he wanted, he downed tools and mentally checked out as soon as things got tough, yes van gaal was partly to blame for his piss poor style of football but you can't absolve el Roland of his much bigger share of the blame.

Yeah I'm quite surprised he's even considering us tbh. We don't even have Champions League to offer, of course he'll initially be apprehensive.

If Ole sells the club well, as I'm sure he can, then I think Dybala will be convinced and 100% in.

I read a report at the time SAF bid for Nesta and went to Lazio and ended up with Veron.

The only reason why I want Pogba to remain is because our midfield falls flat without him. He's the only quality player we have who has a better chance of delivering for us. We do have Matic whose on his last legs. McTominay and Garner have good potential. Fred and Pereira haven't done enough to guarantee themselves to be picked. We don't even have enough time to replace Pogba. With all the crap Pogba and Raiola have thrown at us, I hope he remains for one season as we phase him out next summer. Trust me, I don't want Pogba here because more than half the time he sulks on the pitch which brings down the performance level of the team as well.

As for buying overrated British players for inflated fees, I'm not in favor of that either. I just think Dybala just isn't a United player as in he does not fit the profile of an RW that Ole wants to bring in. And if we lose Lukaku, we need another striker to come in and score goals for us as we cannot depend on Rashford and Martial to do that alone. Dybala isn't exactly a goal merchant either.

That first post made it look like they've waited him to fail or better they would make sure he fails even if he manages to adopt to the team.

He just wasn't suited to PL, shame really because he was really good in Italy.

If the question is "Can Dybala play in a 4231 system", the answer is yes.
If the question is "Can we play this system with Pogba and McTominay" I don't know the answer.

I disagree. I think JSV would walk in our current midfield. The problem for him was that back then United CM was a well oiled juggernaut. No one could break into that
 
For a more positive angle, it sounds like he has been aware that Juve were open to letting him go before Sarri arrived and also been aware that he's not in Sarri's plans since Sarri arrived.

With that in mind it's possible that he's actually open to joining us and maybe even enthusiastic about it which is why he has his Agent negotiating with us.

The leaks to the media about:
  • Wanting to play Champions League football
  • Not being keen to play in the Premier League
  • Would prefer to play for Barcelona or Real Madrid
...could just be negotiation tactics. He wants compensating well.

There's only one person reporting any of that, none of the actual reliable journalists have said any of that.

I think we have two options, we could get Douglas Costa and Manzukic in the deal for Lukaku. That would solve our RW problem as well as our ST issues. That shouldn't hamper the Bruno and Maguire deals. Douglas Costa would offer us pace on the right side which is what we need. He's more of a winger than what Dybala is at the moment and also, Manzukic is a goal scorer and can hold the ball up really well or we can wait to sell Lukaku to Inter for straight up cash.

If that were true, I don't think his agent would fly to the UK for discussions. As you say, it could be a tactic or it could simply be bullshit made up by the media.
 
The sounds coming out of the journos aren't encouraging. Doesn't fancy the EPL, would prefer to stay at Juventus, PSG or Real would be his preferred choices, doesn't fancy playing for a club with no UCL. I hope this won't be another Di Maria situation with a player who didn't really want to come who quickly became unhappy. If we were talking cash I'd be very wary now. The only mitigating factor is the fact we're swapping a player who's surplus to requirements and wants to leave anyway.

Honestly I feel for United, they can't win.

Buy a top class player, everyone goes mental that he doesn't sleep eat and drink United oh and that he wants a decent wage, really!

Don't sign a Lukaku replace, world goes mental that we only have Rashford, Martial and 17 year old Greenwood, the club is a mess that they can't attract any decent names, just kids from Swansea.

Honestly lads take a day off, if you want to kick off go be a keyboard warrior on Twitter or if your not a melt kicking off online, hit the boxing gym haha
 
Honestly we aren't in a bad position here.

Juve can either stump us up the money straight, or we get a good player. Happy either way.

If Dybala doesn't want to come here and would rather sit on the bench then more fool him.
