He's not limited in my opinion. He has too much power. You never give too much power in one person's hands - especially not when that person has a track record of being unstable in his previous employments. He's not Sir Alex. It's a completely different situation.

If he didn't have power, we wouldn't have renewed Fellaini or bought an old Matic or a useless Lukaku. He's alienated our best and most creative players. He's thrown them and the club under the bus. What more power should he have? He's had too much.

Yeah that also makes sense. But then you look at our defence, and we're still largely relying on players leftover from SAF. Converted wingers as full backs. The club just isn't functioning right as a whole.

As for Lukaku, I think he's a much better footballer than he's showing this season. Hopefully when a new manager comes in we can see him start scoring goals again

Sacking him tonight just feels right to me.

Oh it feels right to me too! I'll drive to Manchester and deliver the verdict myself but I just don't think the club have the bottle to act.

Also with the leaks that come out of the club I think it will be all over the media he is about the get sacked (remember LVG) 24 hours before.

It really was as if Liverpool were playing pesky lower table dwellers with wave after wave after wave of attacks

A self respecting top club would sack him in the morning yet we're just going to twiddle our thumbs until the end of the season as he drags our reputation through the mud to save a few million

He was talking about modern day football and trying to dispute a DoF being a good thing IIRC. He wasn't talking about his current situation, but what his future role would be if we hired the DoF that was the talk of the town at the time.
Ah I see, I guess I didn't interpret it correctly

General thoughts about Mou and this season:
We're headed towards our worst season in terms of defensive performance since 1970-71 (when we conceded 66 goals, we're on course to concede 65 at this rate). We've spent an awful lot of money on impact signings, none of whom have worked out. Our manager has absolutely no idea of what our best XI is and has no idea how the team should play in general. We have no idea what to do with the ball and there is no sync between our players in the rare occasions we attack. We're sticking out of form players into the lineup for personal biases and no other reason whatsoever. There has literally been not a single positive thing to have come out from this season! Hell, we're out of the League cup and we didn't give debut to any kid!

Thoughts about today's match:
Lineup and Tactics- What the hell is that lineup, Matic was always going to struggle with the pace and their intensity. Plus, he hardly ever looks comfortable on the ball, which makes dispossessing him off the ball that much easier. Lukaku shouldn't have started as well. He is in terrible form and this was never going to be the game that would bring his form back.
Everyone knows that you need good technical players to tackle the pressing Klopp's teams do. So, atleast play one of Mata and Pogba. You need someone with a calming presence when in possession of the ball, not guys who run away from it
Substitutions- Now I get that Mou's philosophy is have as less football as you can as you are more vulnerable with the ball than without it. I don't agree with it, but when you're trailing, you need the ball to equalize. For that to happen you need players who can keep possession. So, instead of subbing Herrera who isn't that bad a player on ball, sub Matic!!! And when you have brought in Fellaini and are having Lukaku on the pitch, atleast use the 3rd sub to complement their needs. Put in someone who can put in good aerial passes like Pogba, not Mata (and I love Mata!).
Mata is useful if you are looking to play grounded football, nice pass and move game- but when he was brought on, neither did we have players to play that way, nor the time.

Disagree with a couple of things. I think Matic is technically sound and (used to) shields the ball fairly well, he's just losing his legs. And I think playing better ball players like Pogba and Mata wouldn't have helped because the team isn't coached to move and receive passes to retain possession. Pogba would have lost the ball over and over because he didn't have passing options.

I posted this in another thread but I think it should be here too.

If this guy is to be believed, which is doubtful, then these twats have decided to get their hands off the club completely and don't spend a cent till they sell it, so lack of transfers in summer and refusing to sack Mourinho for the pay off. They don't want to put in any more money till they sell it.

Today was surely the final proof for any remaining Jose loyalists. He can’t even go away in a big fixture and grind out a result anymore. He’s finished as a top level manager.
Of course he's finished. It's not even the hand he's been dealt as some Jose loyalists like to proclaim. He was declining at Chelsea from the second half of their title winning season where they were grinding at results and got knocked out by PSG despite having a man advantage for 90 minutes. He's done and isn't going to challenge for any big trophy of note

It does actually, we won't make top 4 with him so the question is does Woodward have the balls to pull the trigger earler this time around?

The look on his face at the end of the game certainly suggests he isn't happy, whether he is prepared to pull the trigger is another matter though.

The match goers have been at breaking point in recent weeks, too. One more poor performance might just see them turn completely.

Seria a perfect for him. May be he his trying for inter to take him back with his comments in Italy.

Has to go now.

I just want to see my team attack again honestly. Obviously I want results, but the football is tumescent. I want to be excited to watch Manchester United again, I want to see players playing for their manager and the club. Its not all Jose's fault, but he's done and we need an appointment where we can optimistic for the future - someone who understands the modern game and give us hope we'll be at the top again. Mourinho was only ever going to be a short term appointment anyway. Screw the cost, he's got to go and we need the next 6 months to at least start some kind of rebuilding job for the next few seasons plus

But he had a two seasons already to sort out the defence. If he was unhappy with the choices he made he would have said so in the press, because he always shows or talks about anything he dislikes. If they aren't working out he won't accept responsibility. He just wants the club to go and spend more money until it somehow comes together. That's insane on his part. He's the manager/coach, he is paid to get the best out of what he's been given. Otherwise why do we need him?
There can be no excuse for the defence. He had enough time to sort that out.

Am going to Brighton at home. Dunno if any tickets are left. Really going cause my Brighton supporting mate is going and we'll have a day out and some drinks:D
Not expecting us to deliver much....:(

If you see another white hanky in the crowd, you know it’s me.

We can't go on like this. This is Manchester United and, though I've supported Jose to this point, it really does look like the end is nigh. We can point to real progress in terms of results (if not performances) in his first two years, but this is intolerable. It isn't all Jose's fault by any means; we need change from top to bottom because we are totally directionless right now.

Makes me wonder how much it would actually cost to sack him?

Less than missing out on the champions league is going to cost, surely somebody in the board room must think let's cut our losses and go again with somebody new to the end of the season or get the man they want in now, this is worse than when moyes was in charge

Win Rate This Season in All Comps:

I read those stats and wonder how he is still at the club. Embarrassing! But hey, we haven't got the players he asked for so lets forgive him.

I posted this in another thread but I think it should be here too.
While this may be true, the longer Mourinho stays the worse the share price will be. That’ll cost them WAY More than compensation to sack Mourinho. Doesn’t really make sense unless a deal is very close.

I watched Marco Silva set up his Everton team against Liverpool last week with, on paper, lesser players than what Mourinho had at his disposal today, and Everton gave a much better account of themselves than we did today.

There's no reason for Mourinho to be so defensive, regardless of whether you think we have the defensive stability at the back.

don't we have to pay his contract in full? so about 20 million.

Unless their is a clause in his contract like their was with Moyes that we only need to give him one years severance pay if he doesn't make top 4.

Pfft and people say we're on par with Everton. We're clearly better! Dear god how far we have fallen..

Exactly even bournemouth gave it a go

You're telling me he's still here because of 20M? Let's start a gofundme!

Repeat after me.

He will not be sacked until top 4 is mathematically impossible

Have someone who cant use a calculator properly doing the calculations so he get sacked now please

His post match comments and the comparison with his past temas are a disgrace. It is just never his fault. The man needs to go ffs

We had probably the best result Jose could hope for. Being 2-0 down and coming back to win with goals in the final minutes.

Conjured up the spirit of United of old and can fully believe the board would be weak enough to let a single result sway their decision.

If that game had of finished 2-0 to Newcastle I don't believe he would have survived.
