We missed Pogba and Martial today but we played well for the most part even though the second half looked terrible. McTominay was surprisingly good. I can see Mourinho replacing Fellaini with him and just getting in a Carrick replacement. Sanchez yet again had a pretty poor game. He's been awful. He had one chance to release Rashford on his left who was wide open but went for Lukaku who ended up doing nothing with the ball. Sanchez is just not fitting in.

Last two games have changed my mind about us having guts and heart. They showed guts and heart on Monday and the first half today they showed that they can play, second half showed the same guts and heart to defend for their lives. A lot of impressive performances in there as well.

First half performance was excellent. Second half not so much, we restricted them to very few chances though and but for a freak own goal it would've been a comfortable win.

Biased narratives already out to protect Kloppo.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/footbal...-liverpool-premier-league-live-score-updates/

A blistering game, a collision of two very different approaches, although all Jose Mourinho will care about is the victory he carved out, a gameplan of little attacking and a lot of retreating which has served him so well over the years
Yeah, we didn't attack at all in the first half, did we? And was our brilliant defensive organization "just retreating"? What a tit.

OPTA STATS

  • Manchester United have won four of their eight games against fellow ‘big six’ sides in the Premier League this season (W4 D1 L3), twice as many as they managed in the whole of last season (W2 D4 L4).
  • Liverpool have won only one of their seven Premier League games on the weekends immediately following playing a Champions League game this season (W1 D4 L2).
  • Manchester United have won 20 of their 30 Premier League games this season, already surpassing their totals in both 2016-17 (18) and 2015-16 (19) and equalling their number of league wins in 2014-15 (20).
  • Manchester United had just two shots on target in this match – both of which were scored by Marcus Rashford (13:34 and 23:37).
  • Rashford has scored seven of his 16 Premier League goals against teams in the ‘big six’ (44%).
  • Romelu Lukaku now has seven Premier League assists this season; more than he has in any previous campaign.

Great result. Absolutely delighted! Fantastic moment for Rashford to be our match winner today. Great first goal especially. Shame he had to go off, but that was proved to be a shrewd move.

Second half was a very nervy watch. I guess they didn't have a lot of chances, but we were under quite a lot of pressure. Thankfully we saw it out without too much trouble. Shame about the OG for Bailly, I thought he was good other than that.

Lukaku looked good today I thought, as did Sanchez. He worked very hard, which isn't exactly what he was brought it for. But he was much improved from recently.

Huge win and always a special feeling beat Liverpool.

I thought Lovren was a thug for elbowing McTominay on the back of his head. That's a red card if the ref or linesman spotted it.

“Heavy metal football.” Unplugged, as the American commentator said.
I don't like Kyle Martino but that was rather funny.

Great performance by the squad today. Liverpool had no answers.

Superb from everyone - both Mourinho and the players. A few more of these performances and Mourinho might win me over.

The sacrifice that esp. Mata, Rashford and Alexis made today, is what Pogba needs to learn.

Complaining or not, he did a really good job of it, especially in the latter stages of the game.
A good pre-season in the States to get super fit and he will be a lot better. These last three games will have given him that excitement that comes with playing for Manchester United.

Loved it.
Absolutely loved it.

Great to see Bailly back, Rashford find some form and the team playing well in general. I'm in a good mood today. :D

First half spot on, second half a bit wobbly but we do look more capable of playing that way now.

Must have been Salah's worst game of the season, completely nullified.

What a game. What a feeling. And what a difference Bailly makes! Never mind the OG. That was an unlucky aberration. Didn't faze him either. We're who we are at present, so not too surprised about the second half performance. We neutralized the fabled 'Pool attack and won such an important game. Gotta give Jose and the boys due credit... I agree with those calling for this to be the first XI

Yeah, and you could definitely see him getting into the spirit of that rearguard action at the end there, he got a very obvious second wind and looked like the most energetic player on the pitch.

“United controlling by not having the ball,” Mourinho's motto there.

We had a team of players who gave everything for the team. Paul needs to have a look at himself. Manchester United has always been about that, for all our trophies and the style in previous years, it took a lot of hard work.

fecking wonderful.

We were clinical and that's that.

We didn't park the bus and we were effective. Made me appreciate how solid defensively we are, at least at home.

Proper Mourinho performance.

feck off Klopp. feck off Liverpool.

Yeah that was such a cowardly thing to do against a young player. Hopefully that does get brought up for retrospective.

That lineup:lol: not gonna be pretty this. Literally the only promising pqrt about it is bailly back, but he'll be rusty. Mata is best when we are dominating possession. Matic is best in a 3 and struggles otherwise. Mctominay is bang average but i guess no options. Salah is going to wreck Young like any half decent winger does (because young isn't a left back). No lingard is strange. No martial or pogba at all in the squad means we're fecked.

I like to think I'm generally pretty optimistic. But seeing that starting 11, I can't see anything other then a loss here. Hope we somehow manage a draw basically.
Remember this moment... 70th minute, Fellaini comes on for Rashford...
Will be a draw this.
Chin up lads!

That makes 4 years in a row Liverpool haven't beaten us in the League, in fact only Moyes has lost to them in the league with us in the last 7 years.

Yet every time we play them we seem to be told how they're going to batter us beforehand...

For the first time in a long time, we had a better first half than a second half in an attacking sense.

And Rashford? I hereby declare him a United legend for those two goals against the Scousers.

Masterclass. Never in doubt ;)
The ref tried to ruin it in the second half and added 4 minutes too many, but still couldn’t stop us winning. Glorious!

Very enjoyable first half, thought was good tactically and executed.

Second half dropping very deep inviting pressure. Liverpool didn't have many chances so defence and midfield did well.
Liverpool has a weak defence so exploit it.

Bailly scoring the own goal at least gave me the correct score prediction.

Rashford, Lukaku and McTominay were very good, think it was McTominay's best game for us.
Was cursing Young at the beginning but he improved considerably as the game went on.
Sanchez was probably our worst player.

Excellent result and buzzing.

It’s great to beat Liverpool, but Jose Mourinho is absolutely right, it’s just another 3 points. It’s strange, but it feels like we just beat any ordinary PL team, nothing special. Well, except for the fact that the pundits on TV appear to have injured themselves - they are hurting.

That was pretty much what you’d expect Jose would view as the perfect game. Two goals from direct football and resolute defending. The defence looked really good today and Young also stepped up.

Maybe Fergie joining the team last night had something to say to the lads but well done Jose. Got his tactics right today and shut down that pool attack.
