Yet still players want to come here from Arsenal. I wonder why that might be?

Before you say money, consider that Arsenal are one of the most cash-rich teams in the world and United have one of the lowest % spends on wages in the Premier League.
Ours and their finishing positions are irrelevant when you look at each club's ambition anyway. United might be playing catch up to City but we're in a better position than anyone else, and clearly making the right steps.

That said, our low % spend doesn't mean we pay players less than other clubs and debunk the mercenary argument. We presumably have amongst the biggest wage bills. Might be the biggest.

Now the big question, will Sanchez suffice or do we need to pursue another attacking player in the summer?

This deal is so important in many ways, it shows we still there attracting the best players out there and it shows the ambition of the board too.

My wit's end
I saw a quote from Mourinho this morning and he said "With Sanchez, we will have four players for the THREE forward positions"

Which to me means, Griezmann & Dybala are not on the menu, and that we are going 4-3-3...!!
That's not what Jose meant:

Mourinho said he not spoken to Sánchez but will welcome adding a world-class talent to a forward line that again lacked ruthlessness against a well-drilled Burnley.

“In this moment there is no competition for places, we have four attacking players for three positions [behind Romelu Lukaku],” he said of Martial, Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford and Juan Mata. “Three are starting, one is on the bench, Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] was not available for [nearly all] the season. We look to the attacking areas and need that extra competitive internal competition and more solutions for us.”

Two I'd say. A backup striker so we can rest lukaku at times and a mata upgrade. He doesn't put up the kind of numbers we need in terms of goals and assists.

Serious question (assuming this goes through):

Is this the biggest ever '1 UP' transfer for Utd?

- we're taking Arsenal's best player
- who was very much courted by City
- who apparently both Chelsea and Liverpool were also interested in
- well below market value

It's pretty tasty isn't it?!

Not sure who the other transfer contenders are but recent memory says:

- Cantona from Leeds
- Cole from Newcastle
- Van Persie from Arsenal

(each of those contributed massively to a Premiership medal... good omen!)
I'd argue that getting Carrick from Tottenham in 2006 was a massive piece of bussiness aswell, they were still a mid table team but were slowly already constructing the structure which would turn them into top four contenders nowadays.

United have not finished ahead of Arsenal in years.
United is in transition. We had too many ageing players in 2013 which caused United declining so quickly. LVG and Moye failed transfer window and couldn't get beat out of them. Under Jose, we seem to be more progressed, we spent most of our time in the 2nd placed league and comfortably going through to the quarter-final in UCL. Our scouting/transfer window has improved dramatically in recent years. United have beaten Arsenal 4 time than Arsenal beaten United 2 time in the league since the 2013-14 season. I think we are doing a lot of better than expected.

Perhaps Champions League but it's of course mainly the money.

You guys are 12 points ahead of us but it's not a true reflection of the gap between the two teams.

I have a couple of Arsenal supporting friends who named themselves after Sanchez when playing Sunday league football.

This will be awkward.

Mata will be off soon. He's too old now. His retirement home is already reserved.

It should be more. We came to your house and put 3 past you ending your unbeaten streak only to have it called 'luck'

When was the last time arsenal won the premier league?

Now when was the last time united won the premier league?

Coming 2nd doesn't count, but, when was the last time arsenal finished 1st and united finished below arsenal?

As you were.

"he only come for money , not trophies, if he wanted trophy he would have went to city"
since when city has winning tradition ? they aren't juve nor bayern munich who won the league every season
even our michael carrick has more silverware than city whole history,
they treat Pep like some kind of football deity who guaranteed to win trophy every season
real madrid probably won't finish above atletico this season but it doesn't mean they are lesser club, if sanchez comes to city , he will be just bandwagoning their title win this season , with us he could be our main man, our catalyst , sanchez is 29 , when he was a kid ,he only witness united winning EPL , never city

his attitude at the end of arsenal - bournemouth 3-3 last season sum it all,.
he is sick with arsenal rubbish mentality ,you guys have no ambition and happy to just getting 4th place all over the years.. RVP realize it back then , and now sanchez too, i wonder when will their fans realize it
he sees united is currently building their team , have strong spine in every position, have manager who knows how to win , steadying their ship ready to sail and he wants to be part of it

Stole this from internet 13:00 - 17:00 most likely under Jose
It's hard to beat the Matacopter though....
He was like the beacon of light during the dark, dark, gloomy, sad and depressed Moyesie's nights.

:rolleyes:So your saying Manchester United have shown more of a winning mentality than Arsenal over the last five years?

When RVP joined United the club we're in transition thus the circumstances were much different.

WTF? That's an odd comparison from the guy who was drooling bitter vile just a day ago.
He's evolved on it.

Though reading the article, he's now using it to bash Jose as short-termist, saying that's what led to Mkhi being poor, and claiming it'll hurt Rashford's development. So he can still feck off.

Exactly. Yes, he would be guaranteed to win a PL title this year. But would he have any sense of accomplishment for that when he joins a team that has it effectively won already?
