Alexis Sanchez | Done deal

Has Sanchez said that he preferred to play for Pep rather than Mou? Or Balague just pulled this out of his ass like usual crap journalists + haters?

It's like how everyone was so sure that Dani Alves wanted to play for his old pal Pep but ended up at PSG

Am okay with being called money or whatever people want to label it. It was cheaping out of deals towards the end of SAF's tenure that made us fall behind City/Chelsea in terms of talent. Time to rectify that

Yep, the time for meek surrender has long gone.

It's time to prove top club in the country status, but throwing our weight around and building a dream team.
City have actually helped us, like Chelsea early 2000s did, upping the ante, and making us respond.

This is such a bizarre story. As if City would skip on Sanchez due to the asking price, give me a break. Something feels off about this whole story to be honest.

I thought van Persie physically didn’t look weathered until his third season at the club. And didn’t he have surgery or delay surgery that World Cup year? I seem to recall an injury of some sort.

he got a pretty bad one v Olympiakos didn't he?

But he was sort of caught up in the Moyes/Van Gaal style of football which didn't help too.
He looked sharp enough at the world cup.

Either City are being very cute and trying to "scare" Sanchez into reducing his demands, or more likely (I think), is that they know we're in hard for him, and are favourites.

Because he wants to win a shit load of trophies, play in a team that flying high and make a tidy sum too. This whole why would go to City is daft, it’s obvious why.

Meh - whose to say that he won’t win trophies with United?

You would have to wonder why City, if prepared to pay 60 million in the summer would not pay 25 now to get him.
I think they are just playing us and haggling with Arsenal as they know he wants to join them so they hold all the cards.

We won't sign him. I think we are interested, like every club probably is and on the off chance ask if he is willing to come - we are in the media more because, well, it's us and the rivalry. I think he still prefers City and that he'd only come if City completely pull out and don't want him in the summer either

I'd have definitely agreed with you, if a few sources hadn't started breaking us as favourites, Wenger's comments sounding like we're very much in the mix, and well...Mourinho's were super obvious!

I hate when people say about "briefings", but it does sound like there's been a lot of that to give the papers their story, and the managers are backing that up

Serious question. How bothered or upset will people be if this doesn't happen in the end and he still ends up at City?

I reckon United are favorites for him now, but I am really surprised if he chooses United. By the time United 'project' is done he'll be 32. You lot are not winning the CL anytime soon either and City have all but won the league this season and should be heavy favorites again next season. Though you lot obviously have more chance than us I suppose.

I am also surprised Chelsea are not in for him either, they are more or less at the same level as United right now.

I really don't think a player worth his salt would care at all about a PL medal he basically had no hand in winning.

Next season, each team starts at 0 points again. If Sanchez joined us, he could lead us to the title right away. Taking a major club like Man Utd back to top is the type of challenge some players might prefer.

What? You've ruled us out from winning the UCL within the next 3 years why? What is this United Project you speak of?

Because they aren't really in a massive need for him. He's a luxury signing for them and since his contract is running soon no need to pay more than 20m for him. They can miss on him and still win the league anyway.

Things were different during summer as he was considered the X factor that could lead them to the league but that's not true now.

Just been on bluemoon my word that place is a mess!

Some cnut actually claimed they destroyed our infrastructure as a club! I mean - what the feck does that even mean. Have we been fighting some proxy wars or have city been sabotaging our training ground or something? fecking stupid cnuts.
Hyperbole. It's not really a war Maxi, I mean not according to the dictionary definition.

Not at all. If we were after a player from summer and City stole him from under our noses, I would be disappointed a bit. Not if he was always going to City and ended up at City after hullabaloo of 2-3 days.

In the summer, they couldn't have possibly known they'd click so amazingly and be miles clear in the league.

Similarly, it's pretty certain that Sanchez's wage requests will have gone up, especially with us trying to muscle in.

So £25m may actually still come out more expensive all in, with the new wages etc needed.

Or, Sanchez's role in their team may have changed in City's eyes. In the summer, it's certain he'd have been first choice starter. Now, it's not

Jesus is coming back faster after meeting Pep's voodoo doctor.

Maybe , but if that is the case that City have cooled he will likely wait for the summer and have his pick.

I have not 'ruled' you out of anything. But its hard seeing anyone outside of Barca, Madrid, PSG and City with their billions winning the CL. I would easily prefer United winning the CL over City, heck United winning the CL over anyone in England outside of us but its unlikely. That's my view, doesn't mean I am right.

Serious question. How bothered or upset will people be if this doesn't happen in the end and he still ends up at City?

Tbh, I've been mentally expecting this for a year now so won't make much difference. My take on it is that we need him way more than City does and if he does go there then I got a hope it will disrupt the sensational season City's attackers have had so far. Three of City's main for attackers are very young so the only one they need to think about replacing is Agüero and he's even younger than Sánchez. Or they actually want to get rid of the Argentine for Alexis which on paper doesn't seem that much of an upgrade.

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but can someone tell how Sanchez was under Pep at Barca? Because my vague impression is that he didn't exactly set the world alight over there (hence why he got sold to Arsenal while a lesser player in Pedro took his place) and that his best moments came after Pep left.

Us paying £25m or so probably wouldn't stop us paying a higher wage in the summer than anyone else though.
And his status at city wouldn't suddenly be better if he waits for the summer.
And does he want to waste another 6months at Arsenal when he's clearly not up for it now.

Are people happy with the prospect of paying him 400k a week? He is a good player but he is not worth that or close to it.

This is how I recall it, so people saying he'd go there "for Pep", I don't think are factoring that in

Im a United fan as much as anyone in here. But seriously some of the stuff here is rawk worthy. We're absolutely nowhere near favourites for this. City will get him. Save yourselves the heartache

Favourites at the bookies now for this one, even if not quite odds on. If people think City are miles ahead, go make some easy money.

If we pull this one off, I’ll be very impressed. Between Lukaku and Sanchez, that will be two done deals we have ripped up and convinced top, in demand players to join us with a strong concerted move, whilst rivals have dithered by attempting to extract maximum value.

It's football mate. It's sickening to think of people earning £10k a week, so it's all just numbers at the end of the day that gets sillier.

I get much more worried at transfer fees, when you think what that money could do in real life important things.
