Alexis Sanchez | Done deal

My main issue with him is how individualistic and selfish he can be. He has exceptional talent but he plays for Sanchez first and the team second.

If I was building a team, keyword team, I would take more than a few players ahead of him.

Aguero
Silva
De Bruyne
Hazard
Kane
Pogba
Salah
Coutinho 2 weeks ago.

I might even take Ozil ahead of him, for the key reason that I think he is more likely to help improve the other players. Sanchez is in isolation the better player but it comes back to that concern over his mentality. Of course if he signs I hope to be wrong and that my issues with him are just a symptom of being part of that car crash at Arsenal.

I think this is precisely why we see him behaving the way he does. I don't recall much being made of his "poor attitude" while he was at Barcelona.

To be honest, if I was Sanchez, why would I go to City? There are quite a few players competing for the attacking positions, and he’d probably find himself in an Aguero position, where he’s rotated with Sane, Sterling, Bernardo on the flanks. And does that make sense for him at this point? Is his love for Pep so great that he can put up with this type of role, similar to how he was at Barcelona?

The point perhaps being missed, is we'd have literally zero chance of getting any of those (bar Pogba!)

I don't agree he plays for himself, he's exceptionally hard working for a flair player.
Martial and Rashford can be a bit selfish at times, but Sanchez provides a lot more consistent quality. If he replaces the underwhelming Mhky, or the one paced Mata on the other side even better

I reckon United are favorites for him now, but I am really surprised if he chooses United. By the time United 'project' is done he'll be 32. You lot are not winning the CL anytime soon either and City have all but won the league this season and should be heavy favorites again next season. Though you lot obviously have more chance than us I suppose.

I am also surprised Chelsea are not in for him either, they are more or less at the same level as United right now.

We got an injury prone Van Persie who was around the same age and pretty much won us the league himself. You tell me, is it old?

Agree with you pal.

29 would be old if we were trying to get him for £100m. But at a cut price, he's right at his peak, and you need some of those level players.

Because he wants to win a shit load of trophies, play in a team that flying high and make a tidy sum too. This whole why would go to City is daft, it’s obvious why.

You don't think we can win the league and CL soon if we add Sanchez, Ozil and another marquee signing in the summer?

I wrote a bit on this earlier, that perhaps gives a good idea of why we'd make more sense. Along the lines of

  • Focus on United is higher than every other club in the country by a mile
  • He'd be our star man
  • He'd take the historical Number 7 and have a chance of becoming an icon
  • We're on the up and building
  • Higher wage of course!
At City
  • He'd have to rotate
  • He wouldn't be a major reason for this year's title
  • Did he even get on with Pep that well?

As for Chelsea, I honestly don't think they have the ability to compete with the Manchester clubs in money or fees these days.
Chelsea are clearly on the down as well.
Massive uncertainty over Conte. He won't be manager beyond the summer, for sure

I also wouldn't ever write off a giant from winning the champions league. Not after Liverpool and Chelsea's wins.
Cups are not always about the best team.

Chelsea have just signed teenage prodigy Ross Barkley. They don't need Sanchez.

Ronaldo did alright didn't he? A bit of ego in the right place never hurt anyone. My response to any players who complain about him being selfish or scoring goals would be "Get good and you won't have to worry about Sanchez".

First of all, some people already talking of him as if he's signed need to seriously calm the heck down

There's a long way to go, Arsenal would have to get a replacement first, which could take until the end of Jan, even if we were at the head of the queue.

However, when things from nowhere seem to start escalating from nowhere, as seen with Van Persie and Lukaku, you do really wonder.

It'd be an incredible signing, and would give us that top class peak age player we're missing right nowl.

The idea of adding Sanchez now, and Ozil in the summer, is just pure championship manager
They might already have one if we give them cash and Mkhi ?

You can but City will be heavy favorites again. I doubt you're going to add Ozil. I think it'll be one off Sanchez or Ozil if someone else doesn't get them. If Jose leaves this summer its not going to be easy for the next man either.

My point was I am surprised Chelsea are not in for either of them.

Fair enough mate, good post and I can see your point as well.

We might finish 30 points off in the league and play the least aesthetically pleasing football in the competition of the 16 teams left, but I wouldn't rule out a team of De Gea, 7 defenders (or maybe more accurately 6 and either Herrera or Lingard running around annoying people), Pogba, Sanchez and either Lukaku or Martial winning the CL playing exclusively on the break.

I thought van Persie physically didn’t look weathered until his third season at the club. And didn’t he have surgery or delay surgery that World Cup year? I seem to recall an injury of some sort.

And he indirectly responded about players/transfers in general as he wasn’t willing to talk about another teams player.

That’s like me saying he was directly asked about Sanchez and replied by saying United won’t sign him in the January window as who else was he talking about? See, 2 can play that game ;)

Maybe but I think it’s just José being José (not a yes nor a no) and nothing else
Dude have you ever watched a Jose presser or? Clearly not.

We won't sign him. I think we are interested, like every club probably is and on the off chance ask if he is willing to come - we are in the media more because, well, it's us and the rivalry. I think he still prefers City and that he'd only come if City completely pull out and don't want him in the summer either

Do people think he might be losing a step? I don't know if it's just returning from the injury, but lately, watching Arsenal, I feel like he might have just lost a little bit of quickness, compared to Ozil, who seems physically in his prime.

It would be a kick in the nuts if he(Sanchez) snubs us again even though we would give him more game time and cash only for him to wait til June and sign for City.
No it wouldn't. I'd say that City are still the overwhelming favourites to sign him. I would go the other way and say that if we sign him it would be a major coupe getting him from under City's noses. Add in Lukaku choosing us over Chelsea and we would really be back.

If we don't get him then I always expected him to go to City anyway. Bring in Ozil in the summer.

No. I think he's just playing half arsed.

That's because he is sulking all season so far.

That would be an amazing deal all round. But swap deals happen so infrequently, almost never, so I couldn't see that at all.

The last one I can remember was Gallas and Cole?

This is RVP all over again. Sign him, get a couple of excellent additions in the summer and we will have a good chance of challenging City next season. I am hoping we wouldn't use him in a 4-2-3-1 through the middle, mainly because I still think Pogba is the guy to build the team around and therefore 4-3-3 with Pogba on the left is the way to go. Sanchez should be bought for the right wing with the license to roam around and do his thing, while Martial owns the left wing. Buy a midfielder next to Matic and Pogba and we are almost set.
One can dream...

Am okay with being called money or whatever people want to label it. It was cheaping out of deals towards the end of SAF's tenure that made us fall behind City/Chelsea in terms of talent. Time to rectify that

Fair enough mate, good post and I can see your point as well.

Don't get me wrong, obviously i'm a massively biased United fan, so of course i'd see it our way.

But, when these stories come out of the blue and build, they often happen. We saw that with Van Persie and Lukaku.
