I'am not going to go into a deep discussion with you because I know on here that will just get me banned.

But I do like to say I wonder where people like you always seem to find the moral superiority and audacity to suggest to people that they need to go and re-evaluate their life. Feels very offensive for me.

It is very good for you don't feel the least bit frustrated about the situation the club is in. Would be nice if you could have some empathy towards people who feel different and allow them the space on this forum to express that (within the forum rules ofcourse). But maybay that is me expecting too much because closing threads and calling people you disagree with lifeless idiots obviously seems to be alot easier for you.

But now I have said what I think about it and I am going to leave at that. Hopefully you can take something out of it, if not just as good, I hope you won't ban me for speaking my mind and disagreeing with it.
Ay, away for a pint and get a life.

a big enough one that now all other striker options are either classed as "donkey's, crap, average, useless", this sub-forum has been a wasteland of salt and rage today.
I don't understand how these are grown functioning adults, typing furiously away at their desks

I wonder where people like you always seem to find the moral superiority and audacity to suggest to people that they are 'crazy'. Feels very offensive for me.
What do you mean, "people like you"?

Just joking ;)

Crazy doesn't reflect kindly on those suffering with mental conditions, they deserve not to be associated with the muppets in here.

Why didn't he just keep his mouth shut till yesterday once he knew the outcome of the transfer ban? It makes zero sense unless he's actually a massive spanner and wanted his ego stroked. If the latter is the case then he can feck off in my opinion. AM are not in a position to turn down 100M. They probably wanted this deal done themselves. Why he has decided to show loyalty when they broke rules and got themselves a ban is also bizarre. He is making AM a huge profit on their investment on him. As a pro footballer you have got what, like 10 years at the top? This decision is baffling to me.

Because he was convinced it would get overturned? Second thoughts? I would have done the same if i felt any sympathy towards Atletico
If he felt very strongly about the ban, why just didn't wait for a few more days to be sure?

I don't understand why people are damning him for staying at Atletico to help them out. That is exactly the sort of player character we want at United. Yes, it's probably GriezOFF this year, but next year I feel we'd probably be able to get him for much less than £89 million if he still wants to come.
While it's true that loyalty is rare and great. One must remember that he also put our next season plan in jeopardy, and if the news of new contract is true, which it must because there's no way he will play next season for the old contract, then that also mean we will have to pay more for new release clause.

Richest in the world, one of the best (if not the best) managers in the world, back in the Champions League via a European Trophy, plus 3 other pieces of silverware in the last 12 months, Pogba, Rashford, Martial, Mkhitaryan, De Gea (looks like he is staying), Herrera, Valencia and Eric Bailly to build a team around.

The situation the club is in, is an exciting one. Give your head a good wobble and realise that (possibly) missing out on one player doesn't make us Liverpool.

I was more disappointed when we did not sign Ronaldinho back in 2003
Same here, this one broke my heart as well as my wallet.
I was on the old Man United Clubcall line 3 times a day to see if there were any updates (even getting fleeced by the club back then).

Good times

This would have been our statement signing this summer, our game changer if you like. The player who was going to turn us in to title challengers. Now we are looking at players in the 3rd tier of quality, none of which are going to have the same impact on and off the pitch.
Blooming heck, reading this post makes me want to jump off a motorway bridge. Anyone would think we have just been given a transfer ban or we missed out on a signing on deadline day, not pulled out of a transfer of one player before the transfer window has opened

For me i actually dont care, fcuk him if he wants to stay at Atletico, at least he only strung us along for a few weeks rather than months. There's no point in forcing it, if he doesn't want to play for us then dont, there's plenty more players out there. I still question where in the side he would actually play so it may, dare i quote the redcafe favourite line, be a "blessing in disguise"

Lots of things don't make sense. I think it's unrealistic to expect this to be announced in a week say. There are too many fingers in the pie. Advertisers want to milk it and we know United would. The only way to tease people, is to swing the other way. Does it help Athletico to announce anything so soon? Why is that French striker suddenly linked to us when he was linked to them? There's a lot of bluff and counter bluff. There is no certainty we won't sign him this summer. When will people learn not to take things at face value? I would be surprised if we announced him so soon. You want to generate hype. When we pay that kind of money, we want people talking about it but when you do deals quickly - even big deals, people soon forget. On to the next one! Who we signing now? People really think Joses plans will be changed on a whim? Any discussions will have occurred for months upon months. We might not sign him. That is true. But to react as people do, shows me how gullible people are even in 2017. It serves no one but the fans - to announce it quickly. Sadly. What good is it to Athletico if they have all this money and everyone knows it. The prices go up 10/20 million. The value therefore decreases. So you have this rumour about a new contract. You introduce doubt. Nothings changed. As far as we know, we have not had a bid accepted. Yet. We just have to wait. We have the Rooney situation to deal with also. We may need to ship him out before looking to make such a purchase. Just imagine if we bring him in but then Rooney don't budge. We need to ship out also.

Our club situation is so dire he's offended that you don't feel just as frustrated as he does :wenger:

Madness, this thread should have stayed locked.

I'm sorry but Griezmann doesn't strike me as Fabian Delph he's put it to bed it's done, life goes on. Hope is a funny thing people will avoid the facts to keep that little glimmer alive. We tried to save face with the Zlatan injury thing we all know its rubbish.

Onwards and upwards on to the next target!

The little Frenchman will be here in the summer, I'm sure of that. This was decided months ago and this rubbish about them not being able to sign players was no revelation to no one including Griezmann. We've seen this stuff thousand of times, Pogba was the same with people convinced he was going to Real with the whole Zidane French connection.
When spending 80m plus, it's just about getting your ducks lined up. There's the stock exchange and sponsors to align and equally daft things like shirt numbers especially if the player is still here that's wearing it!!! I'm sure Utd will want the maximum impact of announcing it as transfers are all about timing.

Worth remembering aside from the press, I've heard nothing from either club to say he's coming or going. Simple press release from Madrid would solve everything but they know he's history.....

That alert

How much of a meltdown did you crazies have in here?
Probably not as big as the one I had when I saw Griezmanns tweet while standing in my kitchen.

Anyway whats happened since the thread was locked/unlocked. Did I miss some positive update or was the thread locked because us crazies lost the plot?

That tweet caught me off guard too, but I just carried on with my day because it 's not that serious.

I think a lot of people in here are treating Griezmann like that girl that they liked since uni but never got a chance with, and now she's engaged and they continue to stalk her facebook & instagram posts instead of finding their own gf.

Loving that 'arm around the shoulder' style message we all got upon finding out we won't be signing Griezmann this summer.

This thread serves to amuse me more than to amaze. Go over the facts rationally (OK. As rationally as a muppet can).

1. Barca committed fewer offences, also appealed and were rejected.
2. Real committed more than Barca but way fewer than Atleti and didn't bother
3. Atleti committed several times the number of offences as Barca and still appealed

Which sane person - and I assume Woodward and co. are very sane indeed, looking at our P&L - would go into discussions in the belief that the CAS would overturn the ban? To every observer that was in the least bit rational, it would be obvious that this appeal was doomed to fail.

Now:

1. Griezmann hinted that he'd move and willingly and knowingly said there was a 6 in 10 chance he'd play for United (let's forget his flaky math and the 7/10 for staying)
2. All signs from people like Pogba and Griezmann himself were that it was done, bar the shouting
3. He said he would decide based on signings and whether these would help the club improve enough to win trophies

Transfer ban upheld and therefore no signings and presumably, no trophies beckon for Atleti as all their rivals will strengthen now.

Meanwhile:
1. Zlatan has not yet signed and has instead posted a video showing him to be a beast beyond our expectations - showing a recovery that stuns me (I've had the same surgery as him and at this stage was on crutches and barely scraping the ground with the operated upon leg. This when I was 18 and played regular football, while Zlatan is almost double the age, at 35).
2. Mino Raiola is stepping up the rhetoric on Zlatan and clearly angling for a better deal than that we had on the table
3. Reports started circling about what Zlatan would do...and how it'd impact us

Suddenly:
1. News hits of the CAS verdict (which was along expected lines)
2. We not only leaked the Griezmann news but also news that we were hunting for a "replacement" for Zlatan
3. News sprang up that we were also yanking the contract offer we had for Zlatan

All in all, I have no view on whether this will go through or not, but this is a long window. It doesn't close till September begins! We're on the negotiating table for loads of players and any that we even sign won't be able to kick a ball for us till at least July. We're therefore not in any rush to announce things that could weaken our position anywhere at all. It doesn't help us in any way whatsoever...while the current scenario also keeps the buzz going and the publicity, should something occur, would be over the top...

So, while I am not going to hold my breath on this, I'm not going to buy the argument that the CAS verdict was a shocker that suddenly made us / Griezmann change plans.

This thread really drives home how good it feels to be largely apathetic towards United these days

I remember how upset I was for days when Alcantara fell through (he was the last transfer I was personally invested in before I stopped caring) and in the past I'd probably (surely) have been part of the people upset at this too, but now it's just nothing.

I was not as excited as others about this Griezmann transfer, even though I know he is an excellent player, but I started getting excited about it just a few days ago. Then it all comes crashing down.

I see lots of you getting pissed because we are not going to sign Antoine.. Just relax guys, it's just the beginning of June and there is still plenty of time to sign players.

We are in the Uefa Champions League, Mourinho is under our club and we are a TOP club.
I am sure we will sign good players that will make a difference in our team and I am 100% sure we'll fight for everything next year.

As soon as the season ended, Mourinho stated: "I am going for holidays, now the job is for ED, who knows which players I need". Let's let the directors work and wait until we get official news.

Have a lovely and rainy day in the UK!
