Very poor game on our behalf. Poor substitutions by the manager too. Poor Pogba. Not Champions League ready imo.

Is he normal?
Generally agree with your summary but I think Liverpool deserve some credit for starting on the front foot. We weathered the storm, though, and were starting to hurt them when Pogba's moment of madness turned the game. In the 10 minutes leading up to the pen we were really dominant and creating good chanc s.
I guess though for me that is because they pressed well and we were tardy initially. Either way, it wasn't the horror show that some on here would have us believe. Not our best game, not by any stretch of the imagination but certainly not as shocking either.

No doubt the media (and a whole load of people on here) will paint this as Klopp getting one over on Mourinho but it's honours even between the two managers/teams in the league this season. Which is acceptable, considering where the two manager are in the evolution of their latest squad/team. That moment of madness from Pogba cost us dear. Until then it was all very comfortable and our goal was coming. Ho hum. We move on. 16 games unbeaten. A point gained on City and the dippers two points further off the top. I'm a bit frustrated by some of our players having a really poor game (well, one in particular!) but the result isn't the end of the world. Thank feck we fought our way back into it. Losing would have sucked balls.
As often is the case @Pogue nails it.

16 unbeaten is the important thing here.

It's telling that last season I had so little optimisim that I'd have forgotten about yesterday's draw an hour after the game and just accepted it as our lot, but the way things have gone under Jose I woke up with a sick feeling in my stomach still annoyed about yesterday's draw.

Can't be to harsh as our worst performance in about 3 months, definitely since Chelsea away, pity it came against them lot but will take our point and move on, passing was very poor today and Pogs had his worst game in a while.

Thought Liverpool pressed really well and gave us no time on the ball, was good to see Jose mix it up as normal game was not working so had to go long, which worked and second half, especially last half hour, we more than deserved a point, pity as they had a weakened side and that was a missed opportunity.

Think that has finished any lingering hopes we had of a title challenge, all about that top 4 now and hopefully a cup win or two.

 so basically you think this team cannot improve any further and that defeating Pool with this squad is a step too far? Have you forgotten the times they gave us a running around at OT under Fergie with Torres tormenting Vidic during the years when we were the best team in the world? Liverpool is always a tricky game but that does not mean we cannot improve or beating them is a step too far. It's preposterous to even think like that.
It's "preposterous" to "even think" that rather than being on a continuous never-ending upward performance trajectory, this team might just about be finding its level? One win in six games against the current top five and the fact we've been behind those five sides since mid-September (and are no closer to 4th now than we were a month ago) would tend to indicate plateau. Yes we're putting relegation fodder and mid-table sides to the sword with regularity (something Van Gaal failed to do last year), but so are all the teams above us. Incidentally, after 21 games last year we were two points closer to 4th and three points closer to the league leaders than we are now.

Frustrated is the thing i get out of yesterdays game, thought we should have went for them from the 1st whistle, take out Herrera the rest played it like a friendly, the young RB for liverpool got the run around the 1st 15 mins then we never got the ball to Martial again, Rashford should have been the 1st sub on at half time for me to run at him at every chance he could get. 1-0 down with 20 mins to go and you see players walking to get a ball that goes out of play really drives me mad. show some urgency

What's your point?
That this teams cannot be any better than it is right now?

Penalty was against the run of play. I felt we looked the most likely to score up until then, although Liverpool were inviting us on to counter attack. With 4 of their players missing, I felt this was a good opportunity to improve our record vs top 6 (currently 1 win in 6), but a moment of madness set us back. In the end, a draw is ok for the reasons Pogue pointed out.

Ridiculous post. Our chance conversion continues to be shocking and is the only thing keeping us from challenging for the title and if you can't see that id have to question whether you even watch the matches.
Stoke, Burnley, Everton, Arsenal and now Liverpool, all games we should have won but didn't because of poor finishing. In fact you could argue we should have beat Pool at anfield too with Zlatan missing a guilt edged header.
Pogba scores that chance in the first half and zlatan scores the header in the first game and we'd be ahead of Liverpool in the table now  plateauing me bollix!

That our recent run against mostly average/poor sides has flattered us slightly, and that despite the football being far better than it was last year we're still some way off a proper title challenge.

You expect our chance conversion to suddenly and dramatically improve in the middle of the season? Interesting.

What is going to be the cause of this sudden improvement in these players finishing ability?

Considering how the majority of the team played, a point is good enough for me. Pogba needs to turn up to a big game instead of enjoying himself against opposition who have no intention of pressing. I think overall his performance is up there with one of the worst 90 mins I have seen from a United player. I dont even think im being too harsh either. Missed big chance, all over the place at corners, giving away the penalty. Misplacing simple passes and the one that tipped me over the edge was trying to do some kind of flick between 2 at the the half way line and losing the ball allowing Liverpool to counter.

Liverpool deserve a lot of credit for how they played. If we shifted the ball out to an overlapping Valencia, the qucikness in which they pressed with 2,3 or even 4 at times was brilliant. I dont know if Lovren was so good or Ibra let him look so good. Apart from the goal Ibra didnt do a whole lot. I would be suprised if he won even half of his aerial duels.

David De Gea is probably the best passer we have in the team at the minute  Such a class act. No one played well yesterday and we got a point which isnt too bad. Still unbeatean and if we dust that performance off we will be grand, and challenge for the top 4!

That I agree with. I think with a good transfer window in the summer we'll be there. For now we should aim for a CL spot.

I thought that it was an atrocious match to be fair. United - Liverpool is always a bad match, but this might be the worst I've seen. Outside of their own half, neither team was able to make consistently more than 3-4 passes, and the teams were more interested on disrupting the flow of the match rather than playing good football.

It reminded me of the Lazio-Roma matches, which might be the worst matches in the history of football.
This game was hyped up by Sky beyond belief. There was always a chance it would not live up to the billing.

Is that all Liverpool are going to be remembered for year to come? They pressed well. That is all I ever hear about them. That will only take you so far.

Yet you lost ground to Chelsea yet again, and 2017 has been dismal for Liverpool so far. This was not a great result for a title contender.

Both clubs should look at this as dropped points. We'd be better off had we swapped victories instead of 2 draws.
It hasn't been dismal at all. We 've missed key players and we are still up there and players are returning.

I agree with two points dropped but 100% happy with a point and this result is better for us than United.

You say that but Rooney & Fellaini helped set up the goal at the end.

Nicely worded retort. You're what, a Liverpool supporter? Got it!

Regardless, I agree the law itself is indeed, to use your quaint venacular, "bollocks".

Far too subjective imho. How can anyone really know whether the ball was directed to the hand or vice versa except the most obvious of examples.
I'm in favour of penalizing any hand-ball where the ball comes into contact with any part of the hand or arm (to just below the shoulder) regardless of intent. As it is, we see some given and some not depending entirely on the ref's perception which, as often as not is anything but reality.

The only point of contention would then be, when an attacking player intentionally flicks the ball at or onto a defenders hand/arm, which we've all seen from time to time. The punishment for that obvious ungentlemanly conduct un-befitting of the game, (aka cheating) would be the attacker/offender gets yellow-carded. This too would be subjective so when in doubt call it hand ball.

Then this foolish "was or wasn't it hand-ball" nonsense would be a non-issue. Instead it becomes a bone of contention almost every week in one game or another. :wenger:

BTW the bonus of this rule change would be more consistency in referee decisions (always a good thing), a few more penalties leading to a few more goals. Yippee.

Had I been the ref, would have almost certainly given the penalty today but if you watch the incident carefully, Pogba uses his arm to leverage himself up in the air and CLEARLY attempts to head where he thinks the ball is going to be. In the course of that attempt, the ball makes contact with the arm. There was absolutely no deliberate attempt by the player to knock the ball away with his hand or arm for that matter and according to the law as it is written today, that is not hand ball and therefore no penalty.

And while I'm ranting about the laws of the game and this is related to the penalty decision; in the lead up to the corner, when Jones got caught on the ball & was cleverly dispossessed by Firmino who prods the ball forward to LaLa-Land who is clearly in an offside position when the ball is played forward and who would have got to the pass were it not for Rojo's desperate defending, why did the linesman's flag not go up for offside leading to a free kick for the good guys and not a corner to the cnuts & therefore no penalty decsion? (I'm sure there's a good reason :annoyed:)
It was a clear cut penalty mate.

Sometimes in football the rule book goes out the window. Look at Pogba's assault on Henderson for example and look where the ref was. Rooney's tackle which was a blatant offence went unpunished . Your goal was offside in the build up and so was ours.

the handball turned the game on its head, we we're in the ascendancy then, worryingly it also turned Pogbas head who went to pieces (though granted he wasn't brilliant before it either). Was disappointed in martial, up against a young novice fullback he should have really piled the pressure on him but once again he drifted into anonymity
Was relieved to have fought back for a point but still annoyed our worst performance in ages had to come against that mob

Yeah, wouldn't think so. Sure Lallana is onside when a Liverpool player last touches the ball so I would reckon it is not technically possible at all.
Shit.

I have to watch it again now don't I ?

Guys Guys, we need to calm down. This was the first time in 3 years where we had to play a match that mattered a hell lot to us table-wise. Before yesterday it was back in 2012 when we really played high-pressure matches. Most of the players we now have in the team haven't experienced big games in the Premier League. Liverpool played their part in shutting down our mid-field. Jose is an experienced manager and he clearly identified before this match that our tempo has not been up to the mark because he knew Liverpool were a team who would press at every chance they get. Pogba was clearly man marked throughout the game, he was not given space to turn or move the ball in front. Klopp is an intelligent manager and he knew our strength was to build from the back. Jose handled pressure beautifully, he took Carrick off and added strength to the front, he introduced our most experienced player and i think we did better in the second half although chances were fewer. I think we had more clear cut chances on goal than Liverpool ever did. Pogba, Zlatan, MkhiT all had their chances. If the Pogba chance had gone in, the atmosphere would've helped us to make it 2 or 3-0. What i loved the most and would carry as a positive is that, we did put pressure on them, we kept getting the ball back and we did go for it in spite of not keeping the ball well. The fans were just immaculate, they did come to play. We celebrated the equaliser in such style. Jose was right when he said, if we had a few more minutes, we'd probably get one more. Big occasion, big teams, not a bad result (in the bigger picture). I will never blame Pogba, he will come back much much stronger from this. Fellaini is so confident right now, he changed the game. That is what confidence and unconditional support can do to you. Liverpool are loved but United were handled for 3 years but now we should push behind more than ever. Please be patient, we are definitely gonna go places.

Lad played the occasion not the game. His head was gone from the time he shanked the chance wide early on.

I reckon Gary Neville was right in saying Pogba, having come through our academy, was too keen to do Liverpool and lost his composure.

Better for us because our objective is top four. This damages Liverpool's title hopes more than it damages our top four hopes.

Yeah I'd agree. He wasn't himself and the occasion got the better of him. We forget he's a young lad and still learning so the experience will only improve him.

He certainly needs to manage his emotions better though as he will be frustrated with himself watching that performance back. Given how good he's been against the likes of Spurs and Arsenal I'm quite happy to put it down to an off day.

yeah that's true.
it's a tough one because if you want to bee cold about it you could argue he should've been pulled at HT but on the other hand his suffering through it will no doubt stand him in good stead for future big matches
he's such a talent we forget he's still very young

This smells a bit like revisionism. Against Arsenal I actually don't feel we made good use of our dominance and created much that we didn't finish.

Liverpool had more attempts on goal and also forced us into making more saves in both games. Do Liverpools chances not count then?

I expect Liverpool to score first, we'll create quite a few chances, equalise in the second half and it will end 1-1. That's my prediction.
I suppose I should not be disappointed... I should have put money on this.

Then how do you excuse his bad performances in every single big game hes played? (bar one of the Real Madrid semi finals at Juve)
