Renato Sanches joins Bayern

Was that one of the clauses of his transfer?

Can't remember reading anything about something like that, so probably not.

A little undeserved but I won't complain as long as it motivates him to get better.

I think he has gotten a bit better the last two games or so, looks more confident than in the first games. Don't know though what all the hype is about, haven't really seen anything special from him yet. But i'll trust Reschke on that.

How has he actually been playing for you guys?

His first outings were absolutely terrible. He looked flustered and disjointed from the rest of the team, prone to laps of concentration and taking unnecessary risks.
He played more conservatively afterwards and his last performance was much better in terms of composure and discipline. I expect him to settle in better over the next few months.

He had a good Euros and won the competition which was the most high profile football event of the year.

Not too hot on him personally though.

I feel the same.
He has calmed down in his last appearances and looked decent; he looked very nervous the first couple of times.
Which is not too surprising considering the hype.
Also of course, he had played at the Euros (where by the way his latter appearances where pretty poor too), so that's another factor why not being at his best early in the season is to be expected - apart from the factors that he's moved to a bigger league, a bigger club, and is a bloody teenager of course whose performances are sure to be inconsistent

Not the most deserving on the list, and generally, not as talented as many that were on that list, I don't get what all the hype is about.

Wow haven't heard anything about this kid since he moved to Bayern. How many minutes has he gotten so far?

You are not going to give up.

A 19 year old moves to a strange country to join one of the biggest clubs in the world where he's no longer the main man and struggles. He's clearly finished.

Was he the main man at Benfica?

It's not about being finished, some people don't see the hype but from the start you want to force them to see it. You really love the kid.:D

True, I am a big fan. Less talented than Pogba but much better mentality than he had at the same age.

He reminds me of Edgar Davids. Not seeing the same technical ability though.

At the same age Pogba went to the best side in Italy with one of the best midfields in world football and basically owned it from day one?

He did? I thought he just showed he's skilful playing in front of 2 of the best midfielders around with no responsibility. And he's not all that much further on now.

Marchisio's injury gave him the opportunity to step up but before that he wasn't owning the midfield.

Im going by that infamous first training session that Buffon and Pirlo kept rubbing in our faces.
As every article (after article) that was posted on here from Italy during that time, the Italians couldn't believe what a talent he was and as soon as he was given a run he was never displaced.
Anyway wasn't Marchiso injured early on in the season? A few months doesn't lessen my point.

First of all, your assessment of how a midfield performs wouldn't look out of place coming from a 12 year old but does the mentality of moving from the EPL champions, a side who reached 3 CL finals in 4 years in favour of competing for a place in a world class midfield not show the mentality of the man?
Even if you don't agree I cant see how Sanchez struggling in Bayern is any better?

I also have a story about that first training, while they were impressed by his individual qualities, they were chocked by his tactical naivety. They all supposed that a player coached by SAF would be tactically savvy.

To be fair he was 18 with a handful of first team appearances. If I remember correctly he was being played on the wing during his last reserve season.

I think someone who believes Pogba is a well rounded midfielder calling me a 12 year old is a bit rich. Talent is not the same as being an effective player.

Yeah, but the comparison was made with italian 18 years old players not Pirlo or Marchisio.

Italy is also a more tactical league. I would guess more young players coming through in Italy have more tactical awareness than their Premier League counterparts.
Again this just points to his mentality and the want to better himself, the fact he was prepared to knuckle down and take the masters degree in Italian Football.
Evra is 34 and even he was shocked at the tactical difference between the two leagues. Mourinho has long advocated their tactical know how since he left Italy.
The point was his mentality at 18 was questioned and for the life of me I can't see why.

He didn't put the effort in in the reserves (leading to his tactical naivety no doubt) and then wondered why he couldn't get a game for the first team. He is a classic player who plays to look good, not necessarily to do what's best for the team. Still more than young enough to learn of course but a long way to go.

I have always defended is mentality, he apparently had problems with Conte during the first training sessions but listened to his coach and teammates and adjusted. He has always listened Deschamps and asked for help when needed, in my opinion his attitude is great not because he is perfect but because he is willing to accept advises, instructions and he knows that he isn't arrived.

He was a bit overhyped and now he is getting a bit too much stick. The midfield is all about players who complement each other. Sanchez is certainly more the physical/combative/dynamic kind of midfielder, but teams need these kind of players. Just like Martinez was a great partner for Schweinsteiger.

Kimmich fits well into the role as DLP/strategist, while Thiago is a technical gifted luxury player. So having also a young player who can bring in a bit of oomph is what we need.

Sanchez is still very young and joined a much bigger club in a different country with completely different culture. Give the guy some time. He can learn a lot from Vidal and is a great option in the league, so our normal starters can get rest every now and then. Managing Vidal’s fitness is crucial, if we want to have success in the CL.

No, he doesn't, and neither does he play that role for us.

while Thiago is a technical gifted luxury player.

...who actually has the right skillset for a DLP, and hence he does get to play this role in our team, when Oldonso is benched.

He also has barely 12 months of professional football in his boots so far. Where his ceiling is remains to be seen, we should look at him by the end of the season, and see how much progress he has made.
He did look improved in his last appearences though, so I'm hopeful he turns into a good player for us.

Maybe we have a different understanding about the term DLP. I should have said “DM” to avoid any confusion. He doesn’t play in this role for us, but he has the skill-set. He was always great in the U-national teams next to Can in precisely this role. He also switched between DM and CM for RB. Quite weird to say that he can’t play in this role to say the least. Thiago on the other side will never be good enough to make this position his own. He is lost, if he can’t make the CM or AM his own.

Playing for the underage NTs and playing for BM are 2 different things. There is a reason why Thiago is our No6 when Alonso is not on the pitch, and not Kimmich.
He simply lacks the passing range to act as such for an elite team. Kimmich's abilities are much better utilized in a B2B role or as a RB, and that is exactly where he gets to play.
