Fabregas

I think its highly possible. Barca then have the luxury of signing either a CB or a CM to replace Fabregas. As they can move Mascherano back to CM.

It's so ON.

I think Arsenal's stance matters.

If something's gone on behind the scenes at Barca whereby he's up for a move, i think he would rather go back to Arsenal than come to us.

Depends whether they bid for him though.

There's been some local articles now cropping up talking about how Pep wanted to sell both Piqué & Cesc the year before he left - but the board was having none of it. Catalan legacies like that are difficult if not immovable, unless they push for a move.

I'd love to have Gündoğan but Dortmund are not about to see yet another of their key players sold in this window...especially with considerable talk about his extension and desire to continue in Germany

I think Oliver Torres will be the next target in midfield but not until 2014/15

So Pep was trying to sell Fabregas the same year he signed him? Incredibly poor journalism if true, it makes no sense whatsoever.

Not much hope of this though, after they've sold Thiago. We'd be better off trying for Gundogan (Not to say that Dortmund will sell him easily), or maybe Modric.

As if Barca will sell Cesc ans Thiago in the same summer.

Shit rumor with no chance of happening.

I doubt that personally. Why go back to a team that haven't won't jack shit in how many years.

Good point, forgot about Mascherano.

Marquinhos > PSG - Thiago Silva > Barca - Fabregas > United

You miss out on a player and to save face you make an improbable bid? Some cracking logic that.

So to make it seem like you at least tried and there was some activity in the transfer market. No other way to explain this. Selling him would leave Barca a bit short, the player has already said he only sees himself playing for Arsenal and Barcelona.

Yeh but he loves the club. Suppose RVP could have a word with him about what it's like to be successful in England.

And to people saying 'rumour', it's not a rumour - we've officially bid for him.

Can't win with some people, we don't bid we're morons, we bid and it's a rumour that's never gonna happen! At least we're going for someone, whether we get them or not, i'd say it shows great intent from Moyes and at least this time he's not a defender.

Our bid will be rejected most probably, but starting with a low bid is a standard negotiation tactic.

Really more after 6-8 months of having him. Looking at his minutes those last 15-20 matches, you could see Pep had no confidence in the player

Also, Mascherano will never play CM/DM for Barcelona again...ever

We can bid for him all we like, even if we go up to a stupid sum he's not going to want to leave them. He's first in line to the throne at his boyhood club. Clearly money isn't an issue for him as he took a pay cut to be there.

NEVER. GOING. TO. HAPPEN.

Imagine Moyes' excitement if the bid was accepted?

"Och, Malcolm we missed out on the wee Thiago lad. We should just make a bid for a midfielder to keep the fans happy, aye,"
"Well sure thing Mr. Moyles. I sure would love to make a bid for a Spanish player, they're pretty awesome, right? We can leak the news and keep everyone happy, all in the meantime the bid gets rejected and I keep my dollars."
"Och, sweet Jesus they've accepted."
"God dammit!"

They have first refusal on his transfer and Wenger won't even think twice to welcome him back. However, I think as long as Wenger's the manager at Arsenal, he won't play for another Premier League club. In addition, he genuinely loves Arsenal and can help them immensely mount a genuine title bid.

Why did he sign him in the first place then? Or was it more of a president's transfer because he wanted a la Masla product back?

Do you not get bored of yourself?

Its what I think is going to happen. There's nearly zero chance we will get Fabregas. Barcelona wont sell and even if they do, I seriously doubt Fabregas will come to United

It's not a rumour, it's an official bid registered. They're not going to sell for £25m but we are interested.

How do we know that? Has either club confirmed an official bid? As long as they don't, it's just a rumour, not a fact.

A £25m bid for Fábregas would be pointless either way. That's a bid that's intended to fail. If it's true (again, we shouldn't treat this as fact) then it's really just an attempt at doing an Arsenal: at the end of the transfer window we'll be able to say that we were in for the biggest and best players but their club did not want to sell.

But I don't see first refusal having any significance. Lets say we had a bid accepted, then arsenal could match that bid regardless of first option.

So the dumb feckers we are... New out main target was Fabregas but we wait until they sell Thiago to make a bid. Barca are really likely to sell two midfielders.

I don't think BBC would be running this story if they weren't absolutely sure that it happened.
