It will be interesting to see how he identifies players good enough for United and how he spends the money, he will quickly have to learn to identify top quality players and not those on a level with Everton.
I'm sure our global scouting network will help him with that.

All the Jose fans, he will be going to Chelsea, first thing he needs to do is get rid of Cech, Lampard and Terry. So good luck to him as well He will be there until he hacks Roman off again, just like he does with all the other clubs he's been at. We have made the right choice.

I just think it's great that we have done it the united way and have taken a lad that has come up through the leagues, not gone the usual foreign route.

He'll sign Bale.

And probably Baines.

Rio: Moyes offers continuity

Rio Ferdinand says he is “delighted” with the appointment of David Moyes as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor at Manchester United and believes the new man offers continuity of managerial style and an acknowledgement of the club’s well-established history and traditions.

Moyes will officially take up his new post on 1 July on a six-year contract, and he arrives at Old Trafford with the full blessing and backing of Sir Alex, as well as the players.

“We are all delighted,” Ferdinand told MUTV. “I think it was important that the club made a decision quickly and it all got sorted out. I think the club have acted impeccably in that sense. The manager, I’m sure, thought long and hard about his own decision, he made it and then the club acted swiftly and it’s great to see the new manager coming in."

Picking the right man to replace Sir Alex after 26 trophy-laden years at the helm at Old Trafford was always going to be an important decision, but Ferdinand feels that Moyes’ appointment provides continuity.

“Another reason I think it’s a good appointment is that David Moyes will be very, very open and sympathetic to the traditions of the club and he’ll try to continue that and not come in and make changes in terms of the whole characteristics of the club.

“That’s important for a club of this size and important from what’s gone on before. The manager that we’ve got now has implemented a fantastic system, a working system, and we’ve been successful this year and hopefully we can continue that and this guy I’m sure is the right man to do that and take us forward.

“He’s a very honest man it seems, and from what you hear from other players that you speak to and he’s done a fantastic job at his previous club, Everton. They’ve always been a solid team always hard to play against and what he’s always demanded from his players, from what we see, is a great work ethic and I think there are a lot of similarities with the manager that we’ve got at the moment. That’s a big thing that he continues that tradition.”
Carrick: Moyes' fine reputation

Michael Carrick says he has only heard good things about David Moyes from fellow professionals who have worked under the Scot.

The United midfielder is looking forward to working with the current Everton boss from July onwards and told MUTV that he is used to dealing with managerial changes following his time at West Ham and Tottenham.

"I think he [Moyes] has obviously done a terrific job at Everton," Carrick stated on the official club TV channel. "He's been there for a long time now with great success for the resources that he's had and he's well respected with everyone I spoke to.

"All the players who have played for him all enjoy playing with him and say good things about him, obviously enough for him to get the chance to be the manager of this great club. It is an opportunity for him and opportunity for everyone else to maybe do things slightly differently but keep the success rolling on."

Clearly the first change in manager for over 26 years at Old Trafford is bound to attract plenty of attention in the media but the England international expects the new man to maintain the high standards demanded by Sir Alex.

"It's obviously a big change because this club's been run for so long under the same person," added Carrick. "I've worked under a few different managers in my past in my career, so I'm sort of used to a little bit of change, but yes, I'm really looking forward to it, to meeting him and getting good training pre-season and hopefully a good future.

"I think he's honest and he's fair to his players as far as I'm aware and I'm sure that's the case. He'll set high standards just as we expect high standards of ourselves and I'm looking forward to working with him."

They are allowed make mistakes and I'll be all for discussion. To assume it's a mistake already with a fraction of their knowledge is a bit silly.
It's not silly at all. Moyes record against the top teams is abysmal and therefore worth being concerned about. To overlook that is simply being blinkered.

Should I ask to have people banned for saying they're pleased with the appointment? No, that's because I respect peoples opinions. The reaction by some folk here is out of order. Or are you of the opinion that people being negative about the appointment are idiots and worthy of being banned?

I have no idea either, yet.

It's not silly to ignore the fact that the people who made the decision are better informed than us?

I'm not overlooking his record, you can be very aware of it, as I'm sure the people who appointed him were, and still think it's a good appointment.

As for your second paragraph, all that does is tell me you are a bit unhinged today.

Well, he did wreck our season last year with the 2 late goals at OT. Also beat us this season. Good record against the gooners also.

Whilst it isn't the muppets choice, in all fairness it's probably the more sensible choice.

We'll know after a couple of years, anyway. But we won't be doing a Liverpool and getting in managers that then break what isn't broken.

I'm being positive about this, not reason not as of yet. Give the man a chance at the very very least.

That graph is absolutely fantastic and can easily be used to show how Moyes is the second best manager in the league.
League titles, domestic cups and European trophies could also be used for that in which case Wenger, Mancini, Benitez etc. all say hi.

Its fergies choice, we trust him with everything else so I'll trust him on this occasion too. Speculation that someone might be shit before they even put their foot in the door helps no one.

I can't wait for next season to start now. It'll be so weird seeing anyone but SAF in the dugout, but I'm excited to see how Moyes can do.

At first I was completely underwhelmed and cynical about this appointment but I've talked myself around. Looking forward to it all.

moving forward.....

so SAF had the hands. you know - his celebration when we scored.
what's Moysie going to do?

yeah, call me the crazy optimist, but I'm assuming we score a goal or two during his tenure.

I don't get the harping on about his record against top teams. He's been the manager for a club that is always the underdog against top clubs and more often than not gives every top club a hard game.

Are there any managers out there that managed a not top club going to to a top club that had a good record against top clubs? It was not necessary for United to only consider coaches that had already coached for top clubs - am sure it was a consideration but, they've obviously looked at more important factors for the long term success of the club which is stability, work ethic, personality, how well they conduct themselves as the face of the club and the respect he'll garner from the players.

It is not a sexy appointment but, we didn't need that right now. Moyes will give United what they need right now - which is a manager that has proven loyalty, hard working, knows the Premier League and will keep with the morals/traditions of the club.

I am nervous yet excited for next season - a new chapter begins and have a feeling it will be quite a successful one. Welcome David Moyes - I certainly BELIEVE in you.

It's an emotional day. In all my time supporting United, I've known no other manager than Sir Alex Ferguson.

David Moyes being appointed on his recommendation feels right somehow. Personally, I feel we'll see plenty of success under him. If there' one thing Moyes knows, it's how to win league games...how to beat the teams he should be beating. If he can continue to do that at United, we'll win the league more often than not.

Europe is another story. Admittedly, he doesn't have the greatest record there but then there's so little to go on. We'll have to wait and see.

I wonder how much of his staff he'll want. We'll have to strike a delicate balance between ensuring continuity and not undermining our new manager.

Best of luck David.

Honestly I feel for him tbh. Obviously it's a huge privilege for him to be managing the biggest club in the world. But it has to be a fecking scary job to take even with the tools already in a place.

Expect all the muppets on here to watch the Everton game at the weekend and if they don't win 6-0 then we'll hear "OMG THIS IS WHAT WE'RE ALL DOOMED FOR!!!".
