One reason is because itunes is very slow on windows.
Did you just misspell Nintendo as Microsoft there? In all seriousness there has not been a dominant player this generation. Apart from in the handheld space, not one of them has a market share much over 40% in terms of numbers or value.
I got this in late 2008, wouldn't swap it for an iPod

Still works as well as the day I got it, plays music, plays podcasts, even plays decent resolution video. You can fast forward and skip tracks without getting it out of your pocket, what more could you want from a music player? If I want games or higher resolution video I use my phone.
