Let’s revisit this when Iqbal plays a pivotal role in getting a Championship team promoted to the Premier League, shall we?
We’ll revisit it when Iqbal plays a role in United team this season

We’ve loads of super talented kids at the club. Most of them won’t make it at the highest level. Garner’s career has already surpassed what a lot of them will achieve.
Garner will have a good career. He just isn't good enough for us. Or the majority of premier league teams, imo. Iqbal has the talent to be, but it's not a guarantee either.

I thought from the young players that came off the bench, himself and Hannibal did well for the time they were on.
Didn't see anything in Hannibal in this cameo, to be honest. He kind of got lost out there, although he tried to be energetic. The highlight for me was him getting robbed off the ball in our own half, he tried to recover but if the opponent's pass was a bit better, this would've been a big chance for Rayo.

He's the anti-Van de Beek. Plays with courage, not afraid to go past somebody from midfield areas which is a tremendous skill, shows for every ball, looks for progressive options. He is very promising and can play a role but he'll need a bit of protection and sensible use.
I am quietly optimistic about him but maybe he needs to go and play a season of competitive pro football first, if a Championship team would take him, that play on the front foot, with a high line and final third pressing, that'd be ideal.

He’s lanky but feels like he had bulk up enough to be effective in senior football. Enough frame to not be pushed out of the ball easily. That was the main concern about him few years ago on youth football.

He played very well in the first two games of pre-season and this one. Struggled a bit in the two games in between though. Overall he's been impressive and hopefully he can truly take the step up, and if you had to call it now he should probably be on the bench ahead of the likes of VDB and Garner.

Even worse. Relatively short and skinny as hell. Let's hope he can bulk up.
Football isn't purely about physique, for a 19 year old he has a good frame and with his style its more the lower body than the upper body that needs to be to be focused on.

Hannibal made a lovely crossfield switch to Shoretire from his own defensive wide space and on another occasion he turned superbly well on the half turn in midfield whilst being pressured by two Rayo Vallecano player to open the game up. I'm not saying he was outstanding, but there's so much more to come from him and for me there isn't another youngster in the same age range at the club who has the vision/passing and dribbling ability combined.

And regarding Zidane Iqbal, I created a thread on him in 2019, when he was 16 and said he was a immensely talented player and it's not a surprise to me to see him do well in preseason.

Thought he looked very intelligent and brought something different
Garner you can see a hundred of him in the lower leagues, he’s ok and will earn a decent wage in his career.

I must've missed the Hannibal moments and totally agree about Iqbal, there seems to be a tidy player there.

Iqbal lools a huge talent in the deep lying playmaker role. Kudos to the new coaching staff for recognising his potential there because he's mainly played as a 10 or an 8 previously i believe. We arent going fto find a club progressive enough to pay him in that position in the Championship so i dont think a loan in this case would be particularly productive. Hopefully he can get some games here this season.

The problem for Hannibal is that he has been played at so many positions so far.

If we end up signing no player fitting that description laid out by ETH earlier in the window I hope this kid gets properly promoted and trusted. It's that or scrapping that ball progression through the middle against pressing sides for the season. We've seen that Fred cannot do it, even less so McTominay, Casemiro is not that type nor is Eriksen though he does have the highest technical level he just doesn't have that mobility and I can't ever remember him playing that role.

Those who have watched him properly for time - how mad is it to throw him in?

I personally thought Garner wouldve been the best option to sit next to Casemiro, but I dont think ETH favours him, so Iqbal would be next out of the midfielders (aside from Hannibal). I dont think he is ready for the PL but he should be first choice for FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Europa League.

Looks like a very good young player. I hope we see plenty of him this season. It’s like watching a youth level version of Modric.

Those turns and forward passes look tremendous, combined with a high situational awareness.
I'll probably get slaughtered for this, but could he be our very own FDJ? One can dream...
Reminds me a lot of him in terms of playing style.

He looks really good in those highlights, needs to get a chance in the cups and the Europa League.

We have a very cramped schedule between now and the World Cup, 3 or 4 starts with a few sub appearances thrown into the deal should hopefully get some better Championship clubs interested or a technical team abroad for a loan in January, of course if he is performing well then let him stay at it here.

You’d like to think 1 defender, 1 midfielder and 1 attacker was given a path into the team each season.

I have no problem with Garner being sold and Hannibal being loaned IF it means Iqbal will get given a path into the team.

But if all those talented kids are blocked by McTom then what is the point in having an academy/reserves.

Surely Iqbal will get Europa League opportunities this year.

Closest we have to Frenkie that we have. Hope he gets some games in the cups and Europe this season

I agree with this wholeheartedly.

By the way, who was he substituted for? Huddlestone? Ginormous.

If Ole was still here he would never had a chance. His height or not being strong enough will be why he won't ever get a chance.

I honestly hope we start seeing him in the first XI before the season halts for the World Cup. There is no other mobile player who can collect the ball and progress it.

The funny thing is that Kobbie Mainoo has probably looked even better than Iqbal and Garnacho at youth level. I wouldn't be surprised if the 17 year old Mainoo is given minutes in the Europa League.

I would love to see him play tomorrow evening. Very, very early days for the boy and we've Fred and Casimero to come in as well, but I don't see anyone else in the side who can play that Eriksen role. I know Eriksen is only 31 in January, but I'd love to see us planning for the future well in advance. It might not be Iqbal, but I was very impressed with what we saw in pre-season.
