Youth Reports 05/06 & 06/07 & 07/08 seasons

FA Premier Reserve League
Leeds United 0
Manchester United 2
Elland Road, Leeds

Johnny Evans scored his first goal for the Reserves as Ricky Sbragia's side overcame Leeds United at Elland Road.

Giuseppe Rossi also netted a penalty as United bounced back last week's shock home defeat to Sunderland with a deserved win over a strong Whites side.

Gerard Pique had already thumped a header against Neil Sullivan's post when Rui Marques rashly brought down Lee Martin inside the area after 11 minutes.

Rossi duly converted the kick for his second goal of the season, sending Sullivan the wrong way.

17-year-old Evans doubled United's lead 11 minutes later as he glanced home Markus Neumayr's corner.

The hosts rarely threatened, and Sullivan had to be alert to deny Martin and Kenny Cooper establishing a three-goal lead before the interval.

The second half saw few clear-cut chances, although United were given a huge boost by the return of Sylvan Ebanks-Blake as a second-half substitute.

United: Lee, Simpson (Shawcross 88), Pique, J Evans, Bardsley, R Jones, Neumayr, Gibson, Martin (S Evans 88), Cooper (Blake 74), Rossi.
Substitutes: Zieler, Rose.

-- Great to see Blake back in action!

Big set-back for the lad as he was making good progress so far in the Under 18's.

bad news indeed. anybody know how long he'll be out for?

Sbragia has praised Jonathan Evans, how good is he? Does he have pique/spector potential or is he average?

The U18 team managed a 1-1 result against Newcastle. Campbell was the scorer for Man Utd. Enoying with Brandy's injury.

Where is Sbragia praising Evans?

Campbell Strike Not Enough For Reds Youngsters

FA Academy Premier League
Manchester United 1
Newcastle United 1
Trafford Training Ground, Carrington

United's Under18s remain unbeaten so far this season, but they had to battle back from 1-0 down to claim a point on Saturday.

Newcastle, managed by former West Ham boss Glenn Roeder, took the lead on 13 minutes when Andy Carroll scored with a header from six yards out after Phil Cave's cross.

United upped the pressure on the visitors after that, with Fraizer Campbell - top scorer last season for the Reds - watched numerous first-half chances go begging.

The striker, who turns 18 this week, was United's main goal threat throughout and was not to be denied for long.

Six minutes after the interval, Campbell burst through on goal and chipped Fraser Forster in the Newcastle goal to give United a belated but well-deserved equaliser.

Paul McGuinness' side piled forward and should have been rewarded with a winner.

Again Campbell was the focal point of the attack, and had he done better with a shot midway through the second half, the Reds would have clinched all three points.

The Huddersfield-born striker blazed his shot over the bar as the visitors managed to hold out for a draw.

United: Zieler; Cathcart, Chester, Shawcross (Moran, 67), K. Lee; C. Evans (Gibson, 65), Hewson, Rose, Sean Evans, Campbell, Bryan (Derbyshire, 65).
Sub not used: Crockett (GK)

Report by Ben Hibbs.

The Under 18's were wasteful in front of goal and should've won the game by four or five.
Attacking midfielder Sam Hewson had a chance in the 1st half from a cross by Sean Evans but slightly put off by the on rushing Newcastle keeper he headed the ball wide past the post. Campbell was the main culprit, after scoring a neat equalizer with the outside of his right foot he had a couple of great opportunities to put United ahead and should've had a hat-trick but gloriously blazed both chances high and wide.

After the Leeds game. He's 17 and made Leeds' experienced strikers look like amatures, quite promising lad.

those of you who watch the u-18s matches; i know it's early days, but how are the new guys looking?

Feel that the club should feed us with more info about our youngsters. www.manutd.com is rearly up to date and we should get fare more information.

When will we have a report on Man Utd - Middlesbrough U18?

WTF?!? Is the world coming to an end?

Miller Calls The Tune In Comfortable Win

Manchester Senior Cup
Manchester United 4
Stockport County 1
Ewen Fields, Hyde

United notched their second consecutive Senior Cup win with a comfortable victory at Ewen Fields.

Irish midfielder Liam Miller was instrumental for the hosts, scoring two goals and dominating midfield in an impressive second half display.
United took the lead after just 12 minutes as Sylvan Ebanks-Blake continued his comeback from a broken leg with his first competitive goal since February.

The Cambridge-born striker reached Lee Martin's left-wing cross before the visitors' defence before calmly slotting the ball home.

While County battled gamely for the remainder of the first half, United put the game to bed soon after the interval.

Miller scored his first goal after 52 minutes before American striker Kenny Cooper continued his recent goalscoring form with a scorching third goal just after the hour mark.

The burly forward picked the ball up full 30 yards from goal before picking his spot and hammering a shot into the top corner of the County goal.

Adam Le Fondre pulled one back for the visitors shortly afterwards, but United kept County at arm's length before Miller put the icing on the cake two minutes from time.

The ex-Celtic star notched his second goal with a fine curling free-kick as Ricky Sbragia's men bounced back from last week's Lancashire Cup defeat at the hands of Oldham.

United: Steele, Bardsley, Simpson, J Evans (Pique, 42), Shawcross, R Jones, Neumayr, Miller, Ebanks-Blake (Cooper, 46), Campbell, Martin (Rossi, 70).

......

I'm sure it doesn't surprise some of us who has seen him do so in some matches for Ireland and Celtic, before arriving at United. The puzzle is that he's not done so at United's first team level or come close. Perhaps in the Premiership where space and time on the ball is at a premium, he can't play his game. Who knows?

Surely someone must know who played against Boro(U18), how they played and who scored?

Remo Staubli, defender from FC Zurich and U-17 national team seems to be a big talent from what i've heard. The biggest starlet plays for Chelsea if i'm not wrong, Elmer is his name.

daniel rose seems very talented. two goals against 'boro. remember seeing him for the u18s once when he was still a school-boy. haven't seen him since due to lack of MUTV. but he now captains the u18s from his central midfield position.

Didn't notice this.

MANCHESTER – Qatar midfielder Hussain Yasser has revealed an overwhelming desire to succeed with his current employers at Manchester City – the latest club in the young international’s European adventure.

Hussain enjoyed two productive seasons with Belgian outfit Antwerp, who he joined following a trial with City’s bitter rivals Manchester United and after impressing boss Stuart Pearce in pre-season friendlies against Tranmere and Macclesfield joined the Blues on a six-month contract in August.

*18s: United's unbeaten record ends

24/9/05 1:05 PM

Reds Lose Unbeaten Record In Dramatic Finish

FA Academy Premier League
Wolverhampton Wanderers 3
Manchester United 2
24 September, 2005

United's Under18s lost their unbeaten in dramatic circumstances against Wolves on Saturday.

The United youngsters were twice in front against their Midlands opponents, but eventually lost 3-2 in the dying stages of the match.

Reds winger Jamie Mullan (pictured) put Paul McGuinness' side in front, but United were soon pegged back to 1-1 before half time.

After the break Finnish forward Jami Puustinen put United back in front.

But again Wolves pulled the scores level and in the last minute of the match snatched victory away from the Reds and ended their run of five league games without defeat.

United are at home next weekend against Manchester City in the Academy derby.

This TonyPark lad needs to be promoted mods. That's quality info he is providing.

The team for tonight from manutd.com

I guees this means Martin, Pique, Rossi and Ebanks Blake will be on the bench for tomorrows game:

Young Guns Head To Newcastle

The youthful, makeshift Reserves defence which performed so well against Birmingham last week will be aiming to repeat the feat in tonight's trip to Newcastle.

Kieran Lee (17), Ryan Shawcross (17), Danny Simpson (18) will continue to provide the back line for Ricky Sbragia's side at Kingston Park, along with Jonny Evans (17) who returns from injury.

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Lee Martin are absent from the trip North, so Fraizer Campbell will partner Kenny Cooper in attack while Danny Rose (pictured) starts in midfield after coming on as a second-half substitute in the win over Brum.

Rose has excelled of late as captain for Paul McGuinness' Academy side, and follows the same path recently trodden by regular Academy captain Jonny Evans.

The Irish defender returns to the defence after suffering a minor ankle knock in the recent Manchester Senior Cup win over Stockport County.

United: Steele, Simpson, Lee, Shawcross, J Evans, * Jones, Neumayr, Gibson, Cooper, Campbell, Rose. Subs: Mullan, Lee, Hewson, Marsh.

Report by Steve Bartram.

turns out this dude in my class coaches the *14s of a small oslo club called grüner fk. think they're currently in the forth or fifth highest league in norway. anyways - one of their 14 year olds had a trial with united over the summer, and is probably going back in the not too distant future. he is originally from pakistan i think, and his one year older brother is already on united's books. this just goes to show how thorough united are in the search for top class talent, something we should never take for granted. the younger brother is called shaun idres. dunno the first name of the dude already at united, but maybe the excellent and soon to be promoted tony park has some info on the guy??

==========================

Newcastle United 2
Manchester United 0
Kingston Park

United's young Reserves were beaten by a brace from Michael Chopra as they slipped to defeat in the North East.
Ricky Sbragia's young side were fronted with a strong home line-up containing Chopra, Shola Ameobi and Robbie Elliot, and succumbed to a goal in either half from the hosts.

Richie Jones headed the first chance of the game over the bar after 16 minutes, and five minutes later Chopra struck to put Newcastle ahead.

Taking a pass from Daryl Smylie in his stride, the striker shifted the ball away from Jonny Evans before firing past Luke Steele from 15 yards.

Ameobi almost doubled the Magpies' lead ten minutes before half-time but Markus Neumayr, who impressed all night, cleared the striker's header off the line.

Newcastle deserved their half-time lead, but were almost pegged back when Neumayr flashed a drive wide of the post after fine work from Darron Gibson.

United were left to rue that missed opportunity after 54 minutes when Ryan Shawcross brought down Chopra inside the area. The Geordie striker duly converted the spot-kick to double the hosts' lead.

Sbragia's side finished strongly with Jones, Fraizer Campbell, Kenny Cooper and Sam Hewson all coming close to reducing the defecit.

In the end, though, it was not enough to prevent United slipping up against North-East opposition for the second time this season, following last month's home reverse to Sunderland.

United: Steele, Simpson, Lee, Shawcross, J Evans, * Jones, Neumayr (Hewson, 82), Gibson, Cooper, Campbell (Marsh, 82), Rose (Mullan, 70).
Subs not used: Lee.

Man Utd - Man City *18s, 2-1.

Anyone have a report?

Saturday, October 01, 2005
MUFC *18s 2 - 1 MCFC *18s

Yet another defeat against the old enemy at the very exposed Carrington facility. The result might have been different had the referee awarded a deserved penalty when United’s German keeper took Daniel Sturridge out when he was clean through on goal. Instead City went behind in the second half. City did manage to equalize through Paul Marshall who has improved tremendously this season. However Kasper Schmeichel had to pick the ball out of his net once again and our recent poor *18 record against the Stretford Buccaneers continues.

City(4-4-2): Schmeichel(GK), Obeng, Logan, Wallwork, Mcdonald, Marshall, Williams, Johnson, Evans, Sturridge, Moore.

A much better result for the *16s however where they won 3-1 comfortably.
